Payton Definitely For Sure Working on Halo

Along with a gang of other talented folks. But what are they doing exactly? Mum's still the word on that.

Master...Chief?
Probably not a surprise to anyone that Edge Online has confirmed Ryan Payton--former assistant producer at Kojima Productions and one of the guys responsible for making Metal Gear Solid 4 awesome--is indeed on board at Microsoft Game Studios, working on an unannounced Halo project. This is consistent with a slew of recent rumors to that effect, although those rumors said Payton would attain the lofty career upgrade of "creative director." MGS (Microsoft, not Metal Gear) isn't saying yet what his role will be, or the nature of the project, though.

A number of other pretty high-profile devs were also confirmed to be boarding the Good Ship Halo, most of which were similarly rumored in the past. Gearbox tech wiz Corrine Yu and id Software artist Kenneth Scott are up in there, along with former Pseudo Interactive tech director David Wu. Lastly, everyone's favorite Bungie community liaison Frank O'Connor is also involved, although we kinda knew that already.

Microsoft throwing talented people at its most popular franchise! News at 11! All Microsoft would say about what specifically these people will be doing is "working on upcoming and existing Halo games." It sounds like some kind of elite strike team of make-Halo-games-good specialists. Now I'm picturing them in some kind of costumed, Justice League configuration. Let's just move on.

Thanks to Edge for this photo of Payton looking especially dapper in signature headgear. Brad Shoemaker on Google+

That's a good team working on it - whatever "it" may be.  I'm really looking forward to seeing what develops out of this.

Dream team halo party.

He does kinda look like Vinny! What a ripoff, trying to hop on board the Vinny train!
Good to here that the guy who made Metal Gear playable may actually make Halo Playable!
("Oh snap!" says Peter Stormare")
But seriously! Best of luck to Payton! Hope the Halo Franchise treats you well!

Wait so the new Halo game is going to be a movie? What?

Posted by RHCPfan24

Wow. MGS4 + BIA + Doom + Halo = Halo?  That might be cool.  Well, it is Halo so it HAS to be cool.

Holy crap.

could be awesome

It is pretty amazing the amount of respect this man has garnered from a production position.  Really how many production names are common knowledge amoung the gaming community.  He knows what he is doing and is turning into the P Diddy of video games, soon it'll be all the small time devs dreaming of having Payton working with them.

Wow, He does look like Vinny

Posted by MetalGearSunny

Ryan Payton, you just betrayed us Sony fans.

Posted by musdy

Love the hat!!

Posted by LordAndrew

So how many Halo projects are currently in the works? Eight?

Posted by Media_Master

Microsoft is, as always, sucking up talent. Hopefully this game will be multiplatform.

Posted by Seram

How did he betray Sony fans? He's just working on something new, not like it's destroying the PS3 or something. I didn't think people could be so closed-minded...

Great news. I hope this game turns out amazing.

I'm happy for Payton he seems like a cool guy and helped make my favorite series even better. I wish him luck on whatever this Halo game may be.

Since so many of us are talking about Halo, I'm just going to chime in with my pipe-dream of a wish. Microsoft seems to be capitalizing on their fabled franchise, albeit apparently tastefully, so why not give me my DLC of the Mjolnir armor set, plasma sword, and assault rifle for Too Human. That would be sick. Alright, bring on the flames.

Posted by TheWoj

it would have been appropriate for Vinny to post this news.

So my two favourite games are colliding... in a way?

Good on Payton for wanting to help make stellar AAA titles for us.

oh great cortanna's gonna have a 3 hr monologue before some crazy niga cyborg flood burst in to steal the HALO from New Zanibar

Posted by zoozilla

Huh.  This is all the Large Hadron Collider's doing, isn't it?

Posted by coakroach

How many freakin Halo games do you need?

I'm more into what BUNGIE is doing. I could care less about what MICROSOFT is doing with Halo.

Posted by TomboDemon

theres at least 3 halo projects in production: this one, halo chronicles, and halo wars,
and if you add the bungie halo 3 expansion project then theres 4

i feel bad saying this, but i'm kind of over Halo.  the first game was so epic amazing, but the sequels have been decidedly less stellar.  great multiplayer game, but i'm a campaign and story guy through and through.

I thought Bungie kept the Halo license?

"DLC of the Mjolnir armor set, plasma sword, and assault rifle for Too Human. "

If you're talking about gear for your eventual XBL Avatar, It wouldn't shock me at all to have this sort of stuff available as DLC.  I'd really like to see it attached to achievements in some way, though.

He really dosen't look like Vinny at all, does he?

wow

classy team

Weird.

Pretty good move for Halo, he had a profound effect on Metal Gear so I can't wait to see what he does with Halo.
If he is indeed working on the Peter Jackson Halo game it's at the very least enough for me to start caring about the project which until now I've considered vaporware.

"one of the guys responsible for making Metal Gear Solid 4 awesome"

Yeah, one of two guys destroying the whole plot with crazy retcons and shit. Gameplay was amazing though.

"oh, let's make the monkey an alien. Oh, let's make Otacon become Liquid, then take away the arm and give him a new but hypnotize him to still belive he's liquid (yeah, read the MGS-database on the PS3... he's fucking insane this Payton. Keep him away from the story!

Holy moly expectations for this project just reached a new level.
