PlayStation Move Ape Escape Hits This Summer

You always wanted to use a wand to catch monkeys, right?

Huge news for Ape Escape fans: that downloadable and PlayStation Move-supported next entry was lightly detailed and given a release window over on the official PS blog. PlayStation Move Ape Escape, as it’s been creatively dubbed, will hit PSN at some point later this summer, and it’ll ship with a total of 15 levels.

The core campaign appears to revolve around--get this--catching monkeys via the PS Move controller, which is transformed on-screen into an “an assortment of gadgets” that can scoop, swat, and target monkeys. The game will also host a number of mini-games with names that really don’t betray what they’ll have you do, though the promise of "wacky" seems apt judging from the last screen:

No word on price yet. Also, the post was careful to mention that PlayStation Move Ape Escape release window was only for the US, which makes sense since this is a localization of Ape Escape Fury! Fury!.

I want Ape Escape 4.

Makes sense that they do this for the Move. Ape Escape was the first game I remember owning on the PlayStation that required the use of the then-new analog controller.

Yeah, a new Ape Escape would make me buy a PS3. I'm sad to see that they're only using the franchise to push motion control garbage.

Just another great IP being humiliated by Sony. Well done.

its really really lame that its just another rail-shooter thing instead of an actual platformer.

hell yes, I love the original ape escape. I hope this might inspire them to make a full length platformer like the original with move support.

Don't care.

I have fond, fond memories of Ape Escape 1 on PSone, and I would totally buy that again with some better looking visuals. Also; Ape Escape 4. Get on that.

I remember when this was announced I thought it was a new full-fledged Ape Escape using move controls. :(

When I first saw the news I thought this might be brand-new PS3-era Ape Escape title, with Move support. I would totally have bought that, just like how the original game sold me on the Dual Shock.

But then I discovered that this is just a bunch of mini games and railshooting. Why don't you want my money, Sony?

It's on rails? FUCK THAT! Give me Ape Escape >:(

No lie, fucking FIRST DAY purchase. I love the Ape Escape games (the "real" ones, anyway), they're easy, silly but really fun platformers. The new game is just begging to be played using the PlayStation Move.

EDIT: Oh wait, I jumped the gun too early there. It's a mini-game collection? Nevermind that "first-day" purchase thing. It'd be fun for kids, but...c'mon Sony, how about a real Ape Escape game using the PlayStation Move?

My girlfriend will... wait for it... go ape over this!

Sorry

All this is doing is making me think the Move completely sucks, which wasn't supposed to be Sony's objective at all, if I'm assessing things correctly.

A real Ape Escape title with the Move should have been money in the bank, and they're making this garbage instead? Either whoever is making these decisions is 100% out of touch or they aren't confident in the Move. I feel it has to be one of the two and I'm betting on the second.

Ape Escape was my favorite game from the PSOne era. So great. Used the Dual Shock well, the gameplay was inventive for the time, the style was great and the story was only as serious as it needed to be. Also, TIME TRAVEL. Damn, I'd pay to play that game again with up-rezzed graphics a-la-BG&E style.

I wonder how differently most of us would have grown up, if our first games hadn't been geared toward a more general and mature audience and we had - instead - been weened on Fisher Price style games aimed at the 2-5 age range and then the 5-10 age range. It seems there is some potential degree of detriment to this that we fortunately didn't have to experience.

I want to see a remake of Ape Escape on the unreal 3 engine
