Prince of Persia HD Collection To Be PSN-Exclusive In North America

Europeans will still get a Blu-ray collection.

It appears as if the Prince of Persia HD trilogy Collection won't see a physical release in North America, but that doesn't mean North Americans won't be able to get their hands on the HD re-mastered titles at all. Ubisoft has revealed that three games in the packaged will be released separately on PSN in North America. Keep those wallets handy, eh?

The collection was first spotted as a European-exclusive set that combined Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones, and Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within on a single Blu-ray. Like the God of War Collection before it, and even more similar to the Sly Collection, the Prince of Persia Collection features 720p HD visuals and 3D support.

No Caption Provided

The PlayStation blog has some neat details about these titles. The Sands of Time is available now over PSN for $14.99. The other two titles in the collection will debut at some point in December at the same price.

And just as a minor note: in the Ubisoft conference call, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot mentioned, according to Kotaku, that the rumored Splinter Cell HD trilogy is indeed a real package. It's unknown if that collection will be also be released as a PSN exclusive in North America.

" I'll probably be getting the disc. Keep forgetting it's coming out this Friday.   I wonder how many of the people saying Sands of Time was the only good one actually played the other two. Both had their faults but they're both vastly superior to the 2008 game and there haven't been many "cinematic platformers" (as Wikipedia calls it) to that standard since. "
Do you say this as a "diss" to 2008, or are you saying that even though 2008 was good, these games are better?  I ask because I love 2008. "
It's complicated. I liked 2008 enough to finish it, I thought the combat was cool in the sense that it harked back to the original 2D games, but as a big fan of the Sands trilogy I didn't get what I wanted from 2008.

Main problem was in the platforming itself which seems to stem from fundamental differences in approach. In the Sands games there was very much the sense of having to think about what you were doing beforehand, whereas 2008 seems to have been designed with an emphasis on moving through areas quickly, and as a result I found the platforming more than a little shallow in 2008. Mostly from a lack of variance -- there simply aren't as many moves in the 2008 game -- and so the experience felt diluted into wallrun after wallrun while hitting a series of visual cues with input windows as wide as a house. Towards the end of the game I was beginning to think that Ubisoft should have patched in support for Guitar Hero controllers.

Which sounds like I hated it. I didn't, but I can't say I wasn't disappointed.

" I have to say that I'm disappointed that this trilogy is not coming out on X-Box Live.  I've thought of playing Warrior Within and The Two Thrones for some time, considering that I've already got the Sands of Time.  Hopefully, Sony will import them over next year. "

I think it depends on how they're made. I get the impression that they're emulating and upscaling the PS2 version, which is probably easy enough to do already if the God of War Collection is any indication. It's probably worth pointing out that the last two games for the original Xbox aren't even on the 360's backwards compatibility list.

Of course, I'm curious to see how that will affect the rerelease of Beyond Good and Evil...

Fair enough. I just finished Enslaved today, and if you think 2008 PoP had shallow platforming... whew boy. In PoP, at least you had to press the right direction and use more than one button.

However, I really liked Enslaved. For the same reasons I loved PoP: amazing art style, great environments, lovable characters, and a good story. Admittedly, 2008 PoP didn't have a great narrative throughout, but honestly the end of that game is one of my favorite in gaming history. Two games I appreciate pretty much despite their middling "gamey" features.

I still have 2 of these for PS2.  If they think I'm going to spend $15 APIECE to play them with prettier visuals, they're smoking the good stuff.

I agree the art direction was fantastic and the enviroments looked great (plus I really liked being able to revisit areas), it's at the most basic level a case of me not getting what I wanted from a game with Prince of Persia in the title.

I tried the Enslaved demo but I think I might wait and pick it up on the cheap. A couple of things felt off about that game and I haven't quite forgiven the developer for Heavenly Sword just yet.

So... You don't ever play games like Braid, Fat Princess, Limbo, etc. just because they aren't on a disc, and you have to download them digitally? I feel sorry for you then, because those are great games, and great experiences, and to miss out on them for such a stupid reason is unfortunate.

A digital future is coming in our lifetime (it's already here to a degree). Better get used to the idea.

Took the games right out my mouth. Only played two if the ratchets and the first jak. Even though I have jak 3, I'd rather play the second before the 3rd.

Took the words right outta my brains. I might get it when they have a sale on it and I want to increase my PSN level.

Come on! Warrior Within might went a bit too dark but the combat was light years away from Sands of Time and Two Thrones was good too.

All three games are awesome.  Yes, Warrior Within has all that terrible baditude going on, but the game mechanics were still solid, and Two Thrones went back to the mood of the first game while continuing to improve the gameplay.

The combat was fine, but was it just me or did Warrior Within have a lot of backtracking issues? I absolutely adored the first, but I found the second one had a lot of backtracking that was never really explained very well and I think I actually messed up and I got below a ledge that I couldn't get back up to and couldn't progress.

Yes, Warrior Within had backtracking issues and was needlessly long.  If I had to pick one game of the three to be the worst, it's that one. But overall, all three are great games.

As much as I hate the idea of Sony killing backwards compatibility and pushing out these collections, I still find myself interested in them.  The added trophies provide a great excuse to go back and play some amazing games.  Though no physical copy is probably gonna make me pass on this one.

Never said i don't play them, i don't buy them.

If i get a MS point card or PSN card as a gift i will use them, but i won't support DD with my money, i think it's bullshit,  i don't like having to rely on having internet or a program working in order to play or re-install, it's bullshit and i don't care for it, is it really that much more expensive to print on a disc? not to mention i have a bandwidth cap.

i wouldn't buy them. it's 720p but doesn't run at 60FPS. WTF is the point of rereleasing PS2 games if you aren't gonna smooth them out? Fucking useless. WW runs like a piece of shit. The textures are improved but the game runs as badly as it did on PS2.

This, in addition to the overall price of the collection at $45 + tax, is what's keeping me from going back to these old classics.

I think I'll stick with the Sly, GOW, and ICO collections, thank you.

It was laggy, buggy pile of crap. The game itself was the worst in the trilogy and quite average.

These collections are fine for companies but GOW collection was done superbly well, fixed 60FPS and high resolution and improved sound. It was worth buying because the game themselves were AAA hits relevant today. Out of the PoP Trilogy Sands of Time is the only one replaying or even playing. But my problem isn't with the games...it's the shoddy remastering. People Requested A Shadow/ICO trilogy, Sony didn't just put that out there....thousdands of peopel requested it. Ubisoft are just cashing in and doing a pretty damn lazy job of it. I think the US PSN release is better because you can buy Sands of Time and ignore the other games. You might as well just buy the friggin Trilogy on PC and play Hi res.

I like the sudden remakes of good classics. Sly Collection, Prince of Persia etc.
