Prototype 2 Will Probably Be Announced At The VGAs

A new viral website is showing Prototype footage in its teaser trailer.

A couple of games will be announced for the first time at Spike TV's Video Game Awards show. That's a given. But what game are we almost certain we'll see unveiled at the show? A follow-up to Radical Entertainment's open-world title Prototype seems like a really safe bet.

Viral website Murder Your Maker has been connected with the VGAs for some time, with many viewers of it theorizing that the bald man on the page is Alex Mercer, the bald, jacket-wearing protagonist of the original Prototype. Now, the site has a video teaser that features footage from Prototype, all but confirming that a Murder Your Maker is a Prototype 2 hype site and that follow-up will be announced at the VGAs.

Murder Your Maker has also been connected with a set of three teaser images an unknown developer has been splicing into commercials for the 2010 VGAs. The first two of these images are vague and could be viewed as a tease for any number of zombie games like Resident Evil or Left 4 Dead. However, the most recent third image--which prominently features a picture of a child and a soldier with the accompanying text "don't ever leave the green zone"--is an obvious Prototype reference. If you remember, most soldier-controller areas in the original Prototype were considered "safe zones" in a city rapidly becoming infected with a virus.

Alas, we can't be 100 percent sure Prototype 2 will be announced at the rewards show. Activision hasn't said anything yet and neither has Radical Entertainment, apparently. Like you, we'll have to wait until the VGAs air on December 11 to know for sure. But, really, c'mon

I'm excited.  I'm super into open world + super powers.  Comes from playing GTA and looking up at skyscrapers and saying 'man, I want to go up there'.

I liked Infamous and Prototype about the same.  Infamous was the more polished game, no question.  But I like brawlers a little better than shooters, so it was kind of a wash for me.  Another iteration on both has the potential to be better.  Cautious optimism activate!

Agreed.

" Fuck all the haters. Prototype had plenty of faults, no denying that, but at its core that game was hell of fun. The powers and the sense of being a badass were great. I am actually pretty excited about this. "
There was something weird about the game.  For instance, you couldn't walk around normally without pushing everybody out of the way & causing a scene.  Violence against civilians was monstrous (but you're the "good guy?").  It was a bit ridiculous. Some of the combat missions were incredibly repetitive.  I got the game for cheap & spent many hours playing it, but after a bit, I just found it to be pretty dull & wasn't even interested in seeing how it ended. They also cut the co-op feature which didn't help the game, making it a lonely solo affair.  One could be playing far better solo games such as Dragon Age, Mass Effect, or Fallout which give a better person-to-game connect for the solo traveller.  I think I ended up dumping Prototype to go back & play Left 4 Dead 1 for a bit (then moved to replay ME1 & start Dragon Age). "
Well, part of the issue may be your misconception that you were supposed to be the "good guy". That is plainly not true, the game makes it pretty clear that you are not any kind of good guy, you are just trying to survive and figure shit out, whatever it takes. I mean, you absorb civilians for health, run them over, etc. You are definitely not a good guy (especially with what you find out at the end of the story)  That being said, sure, yea, the missions were repetitive, the world wasn't interesting. But just running around wrecking shit with awesome powers is simply a whole lot of fun, and that part of the game worked well. The story wasn't too bad either. "
Yeah, I get the point that you aren't a good guy, but if you
are trying to conceal your identity, what is it with the pushing
& shoving everyone around & bringing attention to yourself?

Another thing I hated was some of the achievements. I really
hated the Platinum medal achievement considering how long &
tedious it was to repeat those over & over.  Or killing 53,000~
infected (which consists of pressing the trigger against a book
& walking away for an hour or two).  The achievements were
ridiculous.  And I burned myself out working on those achievements
before I even finished the game.

I don't know what it is, but I've grown tired of the sandbox games
out there.  Achievements in sandbox games seem to be like bean
counters & it gets old pretty fast.

Graphics didn't seem that good either.  Anyhoo, the other
thing was just how fast the game dropped from $60 to $10-$20,
in just about 4 months or so.  I really expected it to be better,
but after playing, it was easy to figure out why the price dropped
so fast.  Hell I bought Alone in the Dark about the same time
for cheap & it was far more fun & only had one really frustrating
part to it that had to be repeated.

Running around wrecking shit got boring after the first 5 seconds. People comparing it to inFamous are crazy and the ones who say it's better. Wow. "
Normally, I shit all over PS3, cows, & its games in a good ol'
bout of Console War.  However, you'll find no argument from
me on your point. lol.  Never played inFamous, but I could
see how it'd be better than PeeType.

I was kind of excited for a new IP. To know that all of this "murder your maker" crap is all for Prototype 2 is pretty lame.
