PSP Price Gets Cut To $129.99

Your favorite PSP, now just a bit cheaper.

It’s probably not the best time to purchase a PSP, since work on Sony's next handheld is well underway, but if you're on the hunt, you'll probably be happy to know that the price is about to drop on the PSP-3000. According to a recent PS blog post, starting this February 27, the cost for will shoot down to a more agreeable $129.99 price point. Also, those “entertainment packs” will receive a cut, too. You’ll be looking at $159.99 on those.

But, wait, that’s not all--Sony is also opening up its PSP Greatest Hits library to more games. Soon, the following will be available with special packaging at $19.99:

And the following will receive a “Favorites” listing, which takes the price down to $9.99:

As you’ve probably noticed via omission thus far, the PSPgo will continue to be sold at $199.99, but I’ll note that some online retailers, including GameStop, are out of stock at the moment. Think Sony's going to keep restocking those, or is the PSPgo slowly getting discontinued?

Pokemon Black is for DS, not 3DS, so unless you don't own any kind of DS, you can just spend $35 on it, and even if you don't have a DS, you could just buy a DSi/Lite for what I assume is about the same amount of money as buying a PSP and play Pokemon Black on that. "
Yep, but since I don't own any kind of DS, the 3DS was to be my entry point to the handheld genre again, so comparing those two things gives me that price range.

I bought one used for $50 and it was barely worth that.

Good, now maybe I'll be able to pickup a 1001 on eBay much cheaper than they currently sell for (even the broken ones are close to the proposed 3000 retail price).  I guess UMD still means something to a lot of folks, and even PSPs below 3000.  I don't know why I like mine, can't really pocket it . . . . oh well, investments of the heart and not the mind.

The older models tend to cost more used than the newer ones because, at least for a while, they were the only ones you could play pirated games on. Now that the PSP's master keys have been discovered, though, piracy is as simple as downloading a 'signed' .iso onto a memory stick and plugging it in. PSP-2000s and PSP-1000s especially are going to rapidly deflate in value, especially with this price cut.

At this point I'd rather buy a cheaper used one than a new one for that price.

For most of these games, the prices are just now getting dropped to what they already have been on the PSN for quite a while.  Bit of a delay between the physical and digital media prices there.

It's still a great deal even with the new one right around the corner.  My PSP is one of my favorite gaming devices.
