Pub Games Patched

Now you're gonna have to learn with your left hand.

The house always wins.
The house always wins.
As mentioned on the podcast last week, we've been getting some confusing information lately about the gaping bug in Fable II Pub Games that makes it possible to get all nouveau riche in Fable II and buy all manner of gaudy baubles and trendy real estate right out the gate. First there was an announcement from Lionhead saying that a patch was forthcoming. Then, IGN chatted with Peter Molyneux, who seemed to insinuate that it was all part of his diabolical master plan, and that there would be repercussions in Fable II for players who got their grift on.

The IGN story has since been reworded to make it sound less like Molyneuxian machinations and more like a clever reaction to a bad turn, and now the aforementioned patch has been released, shutting down all the gold-farming and seemingly confirming that notion. Some folks might argue that this is just another chess move by the High Wizard Molyneux, but those people are cuh-ray-zay.

Yeah, OK.  This makes more sense.  It's nice to project all kinds of brilliant ideas on old Molyneux, but it's best to let the guy do his own publicity since he's so good at it, and not do his work for him by pretending he masterminded a bug :)

Hell, I was a bit guilty myself.

I think if it was some sort of in-game thing, not an outright meta-exploit, it might have made sense in the context of the game.  I wonder if the full version will nuke everyone's winnings?

I can't tell wether I hate him or love him. But the man sure knows how to make VG headlines. And though it seems obvious he never intended this exploit/bug to be in it, the whole repercussion bit is a clever one. And I'm curious to know what that is (my money's on RRoD, but ya never know).

Hard to say really what they'll do about the money.  I mean, it's not like it was hard to make that much money without the exploit.  One of the slots games is super crazy at paying out, you can make 100'000g in about 10 minutes on it.  But, it also requires playing the slots games a lot.  Most people seem to not like the slots games.

Also I don't really know where so much of the negativity came from. Even if you didn't get it for free as a pre-order bonus, it does take about 20 hours to fully complete it.  And i Thought at the very least the tower of fortune card game was definitely unique. I can't at all see a likeness between black jack + solitaire, and it.  The craps/roulette game could have very easily just been one of the two reskinned.  Instead they found a great way to not only blend both but give it the feel of it being possible to have come out of the medieval times.  While the Slots were definitely just reskinned slots, it definitely did not in any way come across as lazy. What the slots game lacked in original mechanics, it made up for in very original style.

The strongest negative argument against it is that playing the slots tournaments was kind of annoying because skill didn't factor into it. I see a lot of people saying the craps/roulette tournaments were the same way.  However playing them properly you can still significantly increase your odds of winning.  So while you can't guarantee a win every time, you can still win it as often as say the card game tournament.  Which most people will actually attribute to skill.

Ok well I apologize for the lengthy post, but i don't really have anywhere else to say these kinds of things.

Peter Moleneux is a sneaky person. Don't listen, lest he come in the night to steal your children.

Maybe then you link the pub game to Fable you'll find out that your friend was the dealer and was letting you get away with it.

Molyneux may have IMPLIED it, but he surely did not INFER it during the interview.
(Sorry to be grammar jerk, but this is a pet peeve.)

Never underestimate the power of the sneakyness!

I hope I don't get pegged as a cheat when I start the game. I took advantage of the glitch for a while, thinking that if I didn't I would be that poor, hard working dupe whenever I played co-op (much like in real life). I must admit, I'm nowhere near what most people who exploited the glitch must have. I only used it for maybe five hours worth.

I don't understand why they think I would download the patch if it is going to make it harder to get fast money.
