Pulled Mortal Kombat Interview Reveals Downloadable Characters

In an article that has since been pulled from CVG, NetherRealm Studios producer Hans Lo seems to have let some new info slip about the studio's post-release plans for its upcoming fighting game, Mortal Kombat. He named the first two downloadable characters for the game, the blind, sword-toting ninja Kenshi and a new lady in red, named Scarlet.

Scarlet is perhaps the more interesting of the two potential options, though only because her origin isn't the result of careful design. In the arcade version of Mortal Kombat II, a red version of Jade, Kitana, or Mileena would occasionally load due to some sort of palette glitch. Much like any other inexplicable or unnamed character or bug in any of the early MK games, fans quickly assumed this was some sort of deliberate secret, and took to calling the character "Skarlett." With no official spelling available for the character, we'll have to wait and see how that all comes out.

Both were confirmed as DLC yesterday. Kintaro isn't DLC (if he's playable at all) and Motaro is confirmed as not playable.

They pulled this? It's been on EVERY video game news service for two days. Cat is out of the bag.

I liked Kenshi, and having another chick that looks like Mileena and Kitana is certainly par for the course in MK lore.

Just get the sole decent 'PS2' MK character out of the way.

Still waiting on the announcement of Conker as being the Xbox 360 exclusive DLC.

I'm pretty sure Scarlet isn't her official name, although Scarlet does seem the likely choice, it was said on Twitter that she still doesn't have a name so they call her "Lady in Red".  I'm hoping for "Ruby"...who was the red female ninja in the MK cartoons lol :)

You know, there's something about Kenshi I just don't personally like, but thinking about it, he's probably the best design they came out with after MK4. I say that because I'm the lone Quan Chi and Shinnok fan.

I really thought kenshi would be in the game from the start seeing as he was in the teaser after the demo on ps3.

I believe it's Lady in Red and you're also forgetting Kintaro.

Kenshi was pretty cool. Always reminded me of the classic movie  Blind Fury.

I'm more excited for Skarlett than I am for Kenshi to be honest.

I don't care what game it is or what excuse is made, I don't want to see or hear "DLC" about any game until ATLEAST a week after the game is released.

Maybe I'll get Scarlett since she would be an all new character but I don't know about Kenshi. I was never a fan of him in the past. I think I only played as him to see his fatality.

These both seem like cool additions to an already loaded-up game.

Who is this guy?

Nobody will give a rats ass about those characters.  Just give us classic costumes and add in classic modes for 1, 2, and 3 where the characters in those games were the only selectable ones and have their original fatalities.

Myeh, DLC characters. 
 
I got the MVC3 ones free because of the Limited Edition (Which I got for $56.99, so it was pretty much regular price). But I still hate this nonsense in fighting games. 
  
These two have zero appeal to me yet I don't like incomplete rosters (Which is why I still didn't pick up BB either). I'll pick up MK when it gets cheaper.

This is a joke!  The game has not even been shelved and they are already planning for the DLC?  Just include them in the damn game or don't mention them at all.

But with Soul Calibur, the DLC character's were only Yoda/Vader, who existed on separate systems' game discs. There was no reason to have them exclusive to each console, other then to squeeze cash out of people. This situation is nothing like SCIV, because they're not deliberately holding back a specific character from each system, just so they can bone us in the end. It's just not the same, these character's are actual releases.And I'm one of the few people who liked SCIV. "
