Puzzle Quest: Galactrix Hits XBLA on April 8th, PSN Version Due This Spring

The ship is set for ludicrous speed as Infinite Interactive's newest title beams down next week.

After a muted reception of the DS version of the game, Puzzle Quest: Galactrix is set to beam into your homes via XBLA in a short week on April 8th, with a PSN version due in the Spring. Being a huge fan of the original, I can't help but be a both cautious and optimistic about this one. Although most reviews of the DS version commented on some pretty tough loading-time issues, there was also a lot of backlash in regards to simply moving along on the space map. Still, the DS is a totally different bird from my X360 and I'm at the very least hoping for Warlords in a space setting. If they can simply pull that off, Infinite Interactive will have a new customer.

For those unfamiliar with the series Puzzle Quest games are part puzzle game, part RPG where you take on quests from a variety of NPCs as you move around a Heroes of Might and Magic style overhead map. All fights boil down to puzzles that you can increase your chances of winning by leveling up your character class a certain way. The last game used a traditional high-fantasy backdrop. The new title, pictured below, moves the series into space.

Update: SpaceInsomniac points out the PC version is today's Amazon deal of the day and can be purchased for a cheap $10.

I played the PC demo, and I have to say, something doesn't feel quite right. Whether it's the map system where they aren't any roads and you can just fly about, or the fact that the new 'hex' battle system causes battles to be far too random (I think it's probably that one), I wouldn't get your hopes up too high.

This game is the Amazon video game deal of the day.  You can buy the PC version for just under ten dollars today.

Yeah, I was majorly disappointed by the PC demo. I think I could get over my style issues with it if I simply liked the gameplay more, but the hexes just aren't doing it for me.

I tried to like this game because I loved the first one but i'ts simply terrible...don't waste your money.

Not only is it a really janky and sloppy interface, the timing gates you have to defeat to move around the maps are completely repetitive and boring.  Once you beat them, you're not done, as they can reset!    A complete letdown from D3

I really liked the first game (should probably play it again), but I'm not feeling Galactrix.

I just can't bring myself to play a game like this on my TV.  I have so many games to play on my 360 that seem like a better use of the hardware.  Puzzle Quest is a great series that plays to the strengths of portable hardware.  Why don't they just release Minesweeper on the Xbox Live Arcade while they're at it?  Oh... wait.

PUZZLE QUEST FTW!!!  I enjoyed the Flash demo that was online, and the computer AI was just as brutal on that as I had hoped.  Let's hope this thing is just as ballin' as the first one!!!

I don't know if I am going to get this one because the PC demo was a bit disappointing for me.

Dave mentioned Heroes of Might and Magic. Therefore he is the best person ever.
Oh yeah, I really don't care about Galactrix because I have yet to finish the original puzzle quest (that game is a time vacuum)

Hey, my info about this being the Amazon DOTD was edited into the main news post!  Thank you, Dave. :)
Too bad we can't get the XBLA version for that price.

1600 MSP? Uhhh...

Anyone else surprised? Even after the lukewarm reception I'd be down for $10, even $15, but $20 is for serious too much for me.

I downloaded the demo and played a quick match. What I played I liked, though i didnt seem to have any "spells" whereas the computer did. I assume this is because I didnt build up any skills. Even so I liked what I played...ill give the demo an hour or so and if i still like it then ill buy it.

20 dollars is fine for this game, and most xbla games.

Wow, $20 is steep for me.  I think I'll hold off a while and see if it becomes a bit cheaper.
