Resident Evil 6’s On-Disc DLC is Completely Free

Yes, there's data hidden on the disc, but you won't have to pay to access it.

Whether it’s a reaction to backlash or was Capcom’s policy from the start doesn’t matter, but the downloadable content squirreled away on Resident Evil 6 discs will be available for free.

This includes the already discovered No Hope Left difficulty level and option to play (I almost wrote “enjoy”) Ada Wong’s campaign in co-op. Previously, it was a solo affair. It’s unclear how that will work story-wise. An upcoming patch will also unlock this campaign, which ties up the game’s loose ends, from the start. Everyone else had to gain access by completing the three other campaigns.

Capcom’s faced criticism for including downloadable content users must pay for on the shipping disc before, but the company has claimed to be backing off from the process. When a YouTube user found downloadable content on the disc, there were a series of groans heard ‘round the Internet.

Fortunately, it looks like Capcom may have learned its lesson.

“Some data of this update is on the disc, but said data is incomplete and requires the actual download to access,” said the company on the Capcom Unity blog. “But again, free. Mercenaries costumes are residentevil.net unlocks. Simply register for the site and start earning RE points for those goodies.”
