Rock Out With Your Blocks Out

Rumors! On the Internet? Impossible! But if they're to be believed, Lego and Rock Band are going to do a thing. Weird.

On the upside, there's already cosplay out there for this.
Is Traveller's Tales working on a Lego version of MTV's popular Rock Band franchise? That's what Mr. Anonymous S. Ource is telling videogaming247. It's even backed up with a quote of assurance that the news is "100 percent correct." I guess that's more confirmation than you typically get with anonymous rumors about games that may or may not be in development, so hey, take that for what it's worth.

Personally, I think it'd be worth it just to see a Lego singer going back-to-back with a Lego guitarist to shout a chorus into the mic. Most of the Rock Band animations and camera angles would probably be really funny to see with Lego dudes. So I guess I'm for it? It'd certainly be a welcome change from the rest of the Lego stuff, anyway. But what music do you associate with Lego? Kids' music, right? As I am not a parent, that sounds decidedly less cool.

Now we just need to wait and see if the anonymous source is right or not. I sent a shout through to the proper channels, which I think will result in a response that sounds like a mash-up of "we do not comment" and "on rumors or speculation."

dude , I am all about Lego

Laem.

Posted by TheGreatGuero

But dude, I can't imagine them being able to make many varieties of guitars considering they have to be that small. Really, I'm thinking this could be a pretty horrific idea.

Posted by HazBazz

Im less than thrilled about this

Sounds okay.....

Phase 1: Lego Characters
Phase 2: Metal
Phase 3: ????
Phase 4: Profit!

Posted by ReTarDedFisHy

Seems like an alright idea. But yeah, the fact that the songs might be from the likes of The Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana and The Naked Brothers Band, ReTarDedFisHy wants to stay the hell away from this game.

@TheGreatGuero (Reply button doesn't work o.O)
ReTarDedFisHy thinks that they'll just render the guitars normally, instead of making lego'd up blocky guitars.

Terrible idea Rock Band is behind Guitar Hero in sales and I doubt Lego is going to fix that

Posted by SuperJoe

it's gonna be like the "fell in love with a girl" video, but in 3d.

Posted by Civraz

Haha I can't wait to see this.

Posted by CitizenKane

It would definitely be interesting to see what a LEGO Rock Band game would look like.

Posted by GalvanizedNails

ah Legos, I remember when you didn't suck, when you didn't try to associate yourself with every movie, or entertainment thing that ever came out. Oh the days of Johnny Thunder Lego sets. good times, good times

Posted by Brackynews

But Lego characters never speak... so they'd just be lip-syncing??

Ooooooh, I get it.  Har dee har har.

Posted by drifter13x

Be interesting to see how they incorporate a building mechanic into the game. I'd love to see you gain and lose parts as you do better or worse. So if you really suck, the stage set is wrecked into Lego pieces and your band is falling apart. Could be amusing.

Posted by megalowho

Why didn't I think of that? What a great idea for a game! Wait, no, no it isn't. It's a stupid idea. Silly me.

Posted by bwooduhs

Like i said in a previous thread. DUMB.

Posted by Paradigmer

That bastard Alex has been holding out on us!

Posted by TheMikelGuereca

I assume the next step after this is Lego RE-Mix... meaning that you get a legoized turn-table and beat box out some lego tunes... Ltunes!

Posted by CStrikePlaya

you know whats a good idea is putting nutella on granola bars that shit would make millions

Posted by SgtReznor

goddamn, I'm so fucking sick of the Lego games.

This rumour better not be true

Posted by bjorno

That nutella on granola bars idea is genius.

Posted by Dudacles

I don't really care for this idea. It'd be really gimmicky...

First the Crank 2 trailer, now this. When are you guys gonna start covering GAMES again?!

But seriously, after attending a New Years Party at which two little tykes tried to get their Rock Band on with us big folk, I think a Lego Rock Band game that's accessible to kids would actually be a really great idea. I'm not a parent, but if I were, having a rhythm game I could play with my child, that might actually educate them about music fundamentals EVEN AS THEY'RE HAVING FUN, would be totally awesome. So put me in the camp that thinks this idea has real potential.

Posted by EmptyQuarter

Y'know, for kids.

Posted by sdauz

might be good for kids to get them into rythum games like wii music lol....i just used wii music in a sentence lol, WEIRD

Posted by MordeaniisChaos

God, no, no no no no no no no no no no n o no no no no no no noooooooooooooooooooo

Seriously, WHAt the fuck? Lego is cool and all, but taking... a game.. and tieing it with another game... that has NOTHING to do with the other game o.o Thats just hideous. Please don't be real!!!

Posted by Rowr

Rockband for kids.

Makes sense.

Posted by dsplayer1010

No...just no....

Posted by Kombat

Lego Batman, Luke, Joker and Harry Potter, all jamming away to Livin' on a Prayer.  Aww, yeah.

Posted by Kazona

Sounds kinda lame in my opinion.

Posted by MrKlorox

Don't the people at Lego realize we don't want Lego branded spinoffs of current IPs. We want a Lego building game! Give me a thousand pieces that snap together (I pick colors, etc...) and let me blow up my creations afterwards. They've got to be holding out on this because they want to sell more overpriced plastic choking hazards.

Posted by Seroth

I think it'd be cool. Maybe you could build your own instruments and venues with Legos!

'course, I like the way Rock Band works now. Guitar Hero is in more need of the Lego treatment, as the games look pretty terrible now. It'd look much better if you replace all the GH character models with Lego people.

What if I don't wanna...

rock-out with my blocks out?

Posted by isomeri

I can´t believe that there hasn´t been a Lego Racing game. Well actually there might have been one years ago, but a modern one where you could build your own vehicles and race online. Not THAT is what I want to see come out of the whole Lego-boom.

Posted by Yelix

@ Isomeri
There was a LEGO Racing on the N64, and it was pretty decent.

Posted by RHCPfan24

Hmm...this does not pique my interest one bit.

Posted by Meltbrain

Wow, putting two franchises together I am completely sick and tired of, what a genius move!

Posted by dtran1212

just the perfect game for the Wii

i don't own a Wii so i could care less

Posted by JoshLarson

Is this a way to get kids interested in music games? Isn't that what the abomination called WiiMusic was for? Epic fail if true. Navarro should be ashamed.

Edited by Cubical

This might make me want to play on of these music games sinceI tryed them and found them to be boring as hell and the plastic fake music makers to be over priced and lame. At least now I can watch legos doing while I play it.

Guitar hero and rock band are over priced for the amount of boring they give off if I want to push a button to music I will put in a CD/mp3 and hit a cardbord box and get the same amount  of fun from it.  Or i will just play let's tap it also has better music than those I mean it has kung fu disco.

the last one I bought was Tryko drumaster for $25  and lets tap's from japan with it's cardboard box that is my price.

That could actually... maybe.... be cool...

Posted by LifeByDegrees

Maybe some fun dance or techno beats- that incorporate guitars- or some of the They Might Be Giants kid stuff. Lots of adult/general artists are putting out kids albums as not only do they sell- but they're starting to have kids themselves. Jack Johnson's Curious George album sold like hotcakes.  If I think back to the old Lego Island games- which were probably the last heavily pushed Lego centric software- the music was just kind of random mood/video game fun stuff. Or maybe they would more Weird Al-ish covers. Guitar Hero: Weird Al Edition- now that is a product I could get behind. They could make Accordion Hero with just his stuff alone.

The accompanying picture makes me hope this rumor is true.

ok...

I'm gonna reserve comment until I finish my bomb shelter... the end is nigh dear friends.

Posted by Afroman269

@ Fragstoff

Seems more interesting than Guitar Hero though....
yah that petty argument can go both ways.

Posted by Vigorousjammer

I'd prefer if it wasn't a separate game, and just some DLC you can turn on and off...

I'd buy a $5 pack to turn Rock Band graphics all lego-y... otherwise, I could care less
I'd never buy a full fledged $60 game like this...
