Rumor: Telltale Games Is Developing A The Walking Dead Game

You still like zombies, right?

If Telltale Games is teasing what we and 1UP hope it is, then look forward to a Walking Dead-inspired title in the future. Telltale recently blasted out press invites to an event in mid-February where the developer will announce a total of five (my goodness!) multi-platform titles, one of which is “based on a just-launched property from the TV and comic book world whose popularity is changing life as some know it.” Or, you know, The Walking Dead.

Now, no one is reporting any hard evidence that Telltale Games is actively developing a Walking Dead title. This is just speculation based on that line in the invitation, which seems like a pretty obvious tease. What other mad popular comic book series just went to TV and made a big splash? Right.

As Joystiq points out, it looks like the Jurassic Park game will indeed be at the event and featured rather prominently, so that’s cool. Man. There’s a video game developer out there who is making not only Back to the Future and Jurassic Park games, but might also be developing a Walking Dead game too. Crazy!

eh, not sure if i want this.  Telltale is known for making comedic adventure games, i'm kinda iffy on both this and Jurassic Park . I just dont know if the human drama involved in Walking Dead will translate well to an adventure game...now...if it was a Walking Dead RPG made by Bioware..sign me up.

Seeing as its Telltale I doubt there will be much "combat". Very interesting nonetheless.

A point an click zombie adventure!?! What would look better as an art style, a realistic TV show style or perhaps a cell shaded action comic?

No, this is obviously in reference to the upcoming("just launched") Pushing Daisies comic based on the cancelled ABC series. It changes life as we know it because he can bring people/things back to life with a touch, but if he leaves them alive something/someone else dies.

Actually, thinking about it, Telltale could probably make a pretty cool game based on Pushing Daisies, since the show was a detective show with a mystery that involved finding clues and talking to (dead) people.

This could be really good. Zombie games have all been pretty much straight action games so far... A serious story and dialogue driven game with the zombie apocalypse as the backdrop is something that I want to see done. They'd also need to dirty up their style and ditch the Pixar look since it wouldn't really be appropriate here. At the very least it'll be interesting to see Telltale move out of their comedy comfort zone.

So I haven't followed The Walking Dead at all, but I might start sometime soon. If people are still excited about this even in the zombie-overflow funk, it has to be good, right?

If they follow the comic books, I'm interested. The TV show went off in some strange directions during its last few episodes, and I wasn't crazy about it.

Considering how many zombie games have been made, there is still so much fucking potential left. There needs to be a slow paced, psychological adventure Zombie game made, and this really could be it. It can't be point-and-click though Telltale, I'm telling you now!

Imagine being put in a city with a comparable size of GTA IV's Liberty City, throw in the complete "What the fuck do I do?" of the original Zelda, with the Silent Hill: Shattered Memories goal of run and survive over all out destruction. If it could be paced similar to Mass Effect, make a 20-30 hour game then that would be fucking amazing. And the potential for sequels, where you get more weaponry and stuff, there is so much that can be done. People say that they are bored of zombie games, they're bored of zombie games not done right!

Some game developer has to fucking develop a REAL zombie, survival-adventure game. If some one doesn't then I'm just gonna have to gather a team, promise them that I have money, make them make the game, then go laughing to the bank!

Ignoring the fact that the game could be mind blowingly good, I just love to see more zombies games getting made to annoy all the kids who feel the need to get their panties in a bunch when someone makes a new zombie game. That alone makes this great news to me.

Love the show, Love the comics even more. But as for a game? I don't know, you can only interpret that story so many times. Having read the comics up to number 80 I already know who is going to die. And with Kirkman as a producer I am pretty sure he will make sure that the characters who die in the books will die in the show.
