Ryan Davis, 1979 - 2013

Giant Bomb has suffered a profound loss.

Ryan Davis passed away on July 3rd. He was 34.

Obviously we’re all stunned over here. Ryan was a good friend to all of us. It’s odd to remember that, for someone who could be so acerbic at times, and despite knowing him for almost a decade, I honestly don’t recall ever actually being mad at him. He had an unconventional type of kindness that expressed itself more strongly the longer one knew him, and despite his teasing nature, he always managed to make his close friends feel loved when his attention turned towards you.

Many of you know that Ryan was recently married. In the face of this awfulness, many of us will at least always remember him as we last saw him: outrageously, uproariously happy, looking forward to his next adventure with the biggest grin his face could hold.

The consolation we can feel from that is miniscule compared to the hole that Ryan’s absence will leave in our lives. That’s not a hole that is possible to fill; it’s just something that we’ll just have to get used to walking around with, and that will not happen for a long, long time.

Fuck Ryan Davis

Poured out a forty for him.

He's kickin' it like a true G now, though. Let's all take some comfort in that.

WHAT?

This physically hurts. Even though I only met him a couple of times, I feel like I just lost one of my best friends.

I'm getting angry that all I can do is post words on the internet. I want to fly to SF just to hug everyone.

Been listening to Ryan since the HotSpot. He helped me get to work with a smile, pull through all-nighters to finish a project, and any time I needed a laugh I knew who to listen to.

My heart goes out to everyone at Giantbomb, his friends and family.

Thank you Ryan for all the years of happiness and laughter you've given me and everyone around you. You will be sorely missed.

A terrible, terrible loss. May he Rest in Peace.

No celebrity that has passed has ever made me sad like this, no singer, movie star, or athlete. I really can't believe this.

This is some of the saddest news possible. It's an all too sobering reminder that life is just too short. I am 34 and thinking of the things not yet done in life make me sad for his new wife and all his friends. From a far Ryan seemed like the kind of guy you wanted to call your friend. My thoughts go out to the Giantbomb crew and of course to his new wife.

OMG. Words cannot express my reaction right now. He will be greatly missed, and the bombcast just won't be the same without him. :(

His voice is still stuck in my mind so he will not be forgotten, still.....RIP Ryan Davis

Holy shit. This is not an age to go at.

I'm deeply sorry for your loss, as well as everyone elses. He was a pure joy to listen to for what has honestly been a long, long time.

Pour one out for Ryan. RIP.

RIP Ryan Davis. I immensely enjoyed his work over the past year I discovered Giant Bomb.

If anything had to stop the Bomcast, I'm glad it's the big man himself.

Posted by Disgustoid

Like most people here, I never met Ryan but felt like he was a friend after five years of Bombcasts and Quick Looks.

My sincerest condolences to Ryan's family, friends and the Giant Bomb crew. RIP Ryan.

R.I.P. Ryan. You brought a lot of happiness to the world. We'll miss that big, ridiculous laugh.

Words can't really express how I feel about this and I unfortunately didn't even know him. Yet I know Ryan was an amazing person and friend to the people that knew him and as with everyone else, I'll truly miss him.

Rest In Peace.
