Serious Sam 3: BFE Announced For Summer

The "E" stands for Egypt; you fill in the rest.

Let the cavalcade of announcements timed with the Game Developers Conference commence! Croteam and Devolver Digital are first out of the gate this morning with Serious Sam 3: BFE, the next installment in what's probably the last first-person shooter franchise at this point with no sort of cover system.

 Hey, I remember those guys!

As you might guess from the name, BFE is set partially in Egypt (a crumbling 22nd-century version, at least). Here's the boilerplate straight out of the press release.

== TEASER ==
  • Frantic Arcade-Style Action – The calling card of the Serious Sam series, hold down the trigger and lay waste to a never-ending onslaught of attackers or face being overrun by Mental’s savage beasts. No cover systems, no camping – it’s just you and them. All of them.
  • Mental’s Fearsome Legions – A new battalion of unforgettable minions including the rumbling Scrapjack and towering Khnum join the legendary Headless Kamikaze, Gnaar and Sirian Werebull. Your days of mowing down zombie Nazi space pirates are over.
  • Serious Melee Attacks – When an enemy slips by your wall of lead and pain, use one of the all-new innovative melee moves to drop an enemy right where they stand in the most violent way possible.
  • Pure Multiplayer Mayhem – Play through the full campaign mode with up to 16 players or drop the gauntlet and let the heavy ordinance fly in versus modes like Deathmatch and Beast Hunt. This is the next level of Serious Sam multiplayer and all hell is about to break loose.

Devolver has been cranking out those high-def versions of previous Serious Sam games for a while now, so it's nice that they're not above making a totally new one as well. Naturally, this one is described as coming to both PC and "consoles" and it's slated to be out this summer. Who's in for more Sam? Here are some more pictures upon which to form an opinion!

Screenshots are giving me a real RE: 5 vibe.

Yes- this would make 5 games I'd buy this year if it's a console version as well.

Looks freaking sweet...but can it beat the legendary Duke Nukem Forever in stupidity?

Posted by Pie

Yes! Brought and loved both of the hi def rereleases!

Posted by Seedofpower

Saaaaayyyyyyy what! I can't wait to see some gameplay of this!

Posted by phrosnite

The last screenshot reminded me of Darksiders...

Serious Sam HD remakes sold me on the engine but the 16 player Co-Op sold me on the game. 4-Player Co-Op on Serious was some of the funnest times I've had playing games.

Man, fuck DNF. This is where it's at.

Posted by Zeemod

Man those screen shots look delicious!

Awesome! This'll be the goofy FPS of the year, instead of lame games like Duke Nukem and BulletStorm.

Croteam are seriously underrated, can't wait to see more.

It will be fun playing another Serious Sam after those HD remakes.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" YOURSELF!

At first I was worried about this coming out so soon after Bulletstorm and Duke Forever, but Serious Sam is so frantic, fast, and fucking ridiculous in a way unlike the other two, it should do fine standing out on it's own.

Those shots looks awesome too.

this is poopsome

2011 is the year of the 'stupid' shooter, the year where enough people go "I've had enough of contemporary conflicts, I just want to shoot stupid monsters with big fucking guns!"

We've got Bulletstorm, Duke Nukem Forever and another Serious Sam, all in the same year. That's fucking awesome.

This looks fairly bad ass.

I see a Pinkie Demon, a She-Archvile and a Mancubus.  I'm okay with this.

Stoked!

I don't mind a new Current-Gen Serious Sam. The game has its fans and I am sure they'll be pleased.

I wounder why is it set in Egypt though...

Posted by TomA

I have very fond memories of the original two games and I can't wait for this one!

Arent those fat guys with rocket hands from doom?!

Posted by TzarStefan

Doom 4 and Blood 3 are next...

Posted by Waffles13

Do the screaming enemies actually have mouths?

If the answer is yes, then I am not interested.

Bullet storm, duke nukem forever (maybe), and now a new serious sam, 2011 is all about the over the top gratuitous shooter

Posted by SammydesinasNL

I hope they bring giant turds back!

crazy

What is this? 2002?

Posted by Olivaw

Actually since it's a prequel "BFE" probably stands for "Before First Encounter."

Also check out this ACTUAL QUOTE from the press release:

“Holy crap, I am going to make a boatload of cash of this game,” said Fork Parker, chief financial officer at Devolver Digital, the Serious Sam 3: BFE publisher. “I mean that’s what this is all about, right? If this thing comes out in the summer my wife is totally getting the tit job she’s been asking for." [...] When asked for further comment, Fork replied, “Bam. Tit job.”

We need more press releases like this.

Great! Now all we need is some sort of Duke crossover, maybe a cameo in the game, and then Sam can get a cameo in Duke Nukem Forever 2

And then we get the teamup: Duke Nukem vs Serious Sam: Bigger, better more badass or something.

Posted by Rasgueado

Yes! Thank goodness. I was getting really sick of shooter's getting all serious and realistic. Does this mean we'll see another Unreal Tournament in 2012? ;)

@Oni: Hold on, hold on...at least Bulletstorm does some original stuff in there.  Duke Nukem and Serious Sam?  Not so much.  Also, you aren't really fighting monsters that much in Bulletstorm...

Also, you apparently haven't played Bulletstorm as its pretty fast paced.

Serious Sam: Modern Warfare looks amazing

Posted by Jeffsekai

The realistic style looks great and 16 player co op sounds like maddness.

I eagerly await the announcement of the next-gen Hexen game.
If not now, then never...

Serious Sam: Battle Field Egypt

Hell yes! So pumped about this.

Posted by Dryker

Sounds cool, I'm interested.

Praise the mighty Atheismo!

Posted by TadThuggish

Battle for Egypt.  I guess they only announced "BFE" because of sudden sensitivity issues.

Posted by jking47

hell yeah!

I do hope they've learned how to make guns actually feel powerful now.  The SS games are great but so many of the guns just sucked so much, no weight, no recoil, tiny muzzle flashes, bad particle effects.  If all I'm going to be doing is mowing down hordes I need good guns and the guns of this new game will be what sells me, not "LOOK AT OUR GWAFEEEKS!!!"

Looking real purdy.
