SFII HD Remix Coming Out Sooner Than You Thought

Capcom is doing the smart thing: Getting its downloadable fighter out this month, well in advance of Street Fighter IV.

The high-definition remake of Super Street Fighter II Turbo sounded like a great idea when it was announced a year and a half ago. (Jeff will argue till he's blue in the face that they should have gone with Hyper Fighting, though.) But then time passed, and more time passed, and HD Remix never materialized on download services.

Now that it's almost 2009, it's gotten pretty difficult for me to keep looking forward to HD Remix when Street Fighter IV is nearly out. In fact, Capcom's Japanese SFIV site just confirmed the console versions will hit stores in February next year, with a North American version presumably following shortly after.

Luckily, Capcom has done the smart thing and set a release date for HD Remix in the month of November. That's this month! The specific date is yet to be determined, but the important thing is, this will give you at least three months to wring your money's worth out of the game before Big Daddy IV appears in stores early next year. That changes the scenario from "unfortunate overlap" to "well-timed marketing lead-in." It's almost like they've got a plan for this stuff...

Well now we just have to wait with bated breath every Wednesday I suppose....

Vigilante 8 or this. OH I CANT CHOOSE!

Posted by Agghyson

Already bought a version of the game on my 360, do they expect me to buy it again just for slightly better graphics ?

I can't wait for Street Fighter 4

Snide this is super street fighter II..

Cammy and all the new characters that were in that game are here.

Brad must have just forgot to add an extra 's'

I'll probably buy this, just to see if Street Fighter is all it's cracked up to be. If I like it, I'll get SFIV in 09.

Good news then that it's coming out so soon.

After playing the demo, it's just too weird for my taste.  The new art doesn't mesh with old frame count.  I know it's that way for very valid reasons, but if you want to play a pretty SF game, go get Alpha 3 for $5.

If Capcom was really thinking about this, they'd make the purchase of this secure you an exclusive demo of SF!V.  Just like they did with Commando 3 and this game.

Anyone else not impressed with Udon's spritework for this game? If you check their deviantart page you can see their kickass Street Fighter art...but these just don't have the detail that they are reknown for. The very first sprite released of Ryu was awesome, but then it all went downhill from there. For some reason they downgraded the art...

I'll probably get it and play it for an hour or two. If it is done well then the music will pretty much make it a fun experience on its own because those stage themes are the nostalgia equivalent of a powerful roundhouse to the head.

I agree with Jeff, shoulda been hyper. But otherwise I guess this is okay.

im pretty stoked for this game. It will have to hold me over until IV comes out but the updated graphics look pretty sick

Hmmm still don't know if i'll pick this one up. I'll wait for a review or something to pop up before i snag it... does look tasty though..

I'll buy it, but if it's 1200MSP it's gonna be an angry purchase.

Sorry Capcom but I have to pass on this one... STREET FIGHTER IV ALL THE WAY BABY...

Well perhaps Snide means Super Street Figher II as opposed to SSFII Turbo. I dislike the turbo editions of Street Fighter II as a whole, and don't see any point in playing it at all with 3rd Strike around.

Snide, totally has the super meter at the bottom!!

$15 price tag, just wait and see.

How can it take so long to update the graphics and improve some small things? Almost 2 years or however long it has been in development is far too long for an XBLA remake. Most likely won't get this game. Street Fighter 2 was awesome back in the early to mid 90's, but the SF series hasn't evolved enough and can't stand a chance compared to Tekken, Dead or Alive and the other newer series. Sure a lot of people will think this game and SF4 is great, but I think that's because nostalgia. Just as Final Fantasy 4 is archaic by todays standards as an RPG Street Fighter 2 is archaic as a beat 'em up.

I still think it will get people excited for SFIV but the exposure could have been greatly magnified if it had been released this past summer

I was kinda looking forward to this but then I realised it would have to have the same number of frames of animation so it will probably end up looking like some sort of well drawn Flash game.

i've gotten tired of buying sfII over the years

IM going to buy this, i dont see how someone can complain about an entirely new sf2. this game looks like the shit

Posted by SgtReznor

NICE!

I've been waiting for this since I downloaded Commando 3! Now that Street Fighter IV's coming out soon, I might wait for that - after all, there's a bunch of SF4 arcade machines not far from where I live, so I can hold out for as long as it takes :)

God, I check Google News every single day for updates on this thing. FINALLY!

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!

When it was initially announced I was interested. When the first screens began to surface I was stoked. However all that happened before SF4 was annoucned and put on full display. Having played SF4, for me, it represents everything I love about the SF2 era rolled in a ton of awesome sauce. As good as SSF2THDR looks, I'd rather play SF4.

Posted by Media_Master

Cool, I guess...

Yeah after the SF4 announcements my reaction to this is basically "Meh".  If there is a demo I will give it a whirl and see, but I've got plenty else to play til SF4 comes out.
