Snoop Dogg Coming To Rock Band

Snoop and MTV tie-up for all kinds of different business, including an interactive stop in Harmonix's music game thing.

Hands up, who likes popcorn??
Hands up, who likes popcorn??
Snoop Dogg has partnered up with MTV for a multimedia deal that will cover all kinds of different products. Primarily, his next album, Malice in Wonderland, will be released through MTV. He'll also get his own new variety talk show, Dogg After Dark, which begins its run next week and will produce a whopping seven installments. Man, seven weeks? It's like he's going after Law & Order or WWE Raw or something in an attempt to have the longest-running show in the history of television. Anyway, on that show, he'll be backed up by his live band, the Snoopadelics.

The Rock Band tie-in is really only a blip in release. Here's the relevant portion:
In addition, songs from Snoop Dogg’s impressive catalogue of hits will be released on MTV’s hot-selling Rock Band® music video game platform.
Back catalog hits from Snoop could be a fun addition to the game, but probably only if you're rapping. Of course, the versions of his classics that he's done with his live backing band might provide slightly better fodder for the Rock Band experience. We'll have to wait and see what The Doggfather does next, I guess. I bet it rhymes with "smoking marijuana."

Snoop... Who?
Yeah, don't really care. I don't understand rap, and I've never been into the Rock Band/Guitar Hero genre.
I can say, however, that his album names are absolutely infuriating.

correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Snoop Dog a hip-hop/gangsta-rap kinda person?! SO HOW IN THE BLOODY HELL HE IS GOING TO BE IN THE ROCK BAND?!?!?!?!!?!?! Has April came early or what?! 'cuz last time I've checked we were 2 months away!

I don't know who suggested that, but he must have serious mental problems...

There's a reason this game is called THE ROCK BAND, Not Hip-Hop band, not Opera, not Classical, not Techno, not trance, not a freaking gangsta rap band! can u actually understand that!?

I think I'll stick with Guitar Hero, at least it's not against my beliefs.

Never thought I'd see the day, especially considering Harmonix's attitude towards swearing in songs. Last Snoop Dogg song I heard there was a hell of a lot of swearing,

An interesting little experiment.  Don't care for Snoop dog anymore though.  This isn't '94.  I wonder how someone is supposed to actually sing his songs.  Rap doesn't really lend it'self well to the karaoke set...Well Beck and the Beastie Boys are in the game too so...

Goodbye Rock Band.  Good job on instantly making the name cheesy.

This confuses me more than Noby Noby Boy. How would you exactly play rap with a guitar, bass and drums?

Fucking lame. Rap gets into a plastic toy guitar game but actual metal still doesn't even seem to be on anybody's radar. That's MTV I guess.

Also, Metallica doesn't count.

"Wow another craptastic idea from snoop dog.  It doesn't surprise me that he wants to put his name on a product of mtv.  He is runnin out of ideas and its sad.  I thought he already had a talk show of some sort that was on mtv late nights about 2-3 yrs ago and it was called "snoopvision" or some shit like that.
"
I just... I have to ask. Why are all your posts in bold/italics?

@ Darkfie1d: "There's a reason this game is called THE ROCK BAND, Not Hip-Hop band, not Opera, not Classical, not Techno, not trance, not a freaking gangsta rap band! can u actually understand that!?"

Yeah, and the reason is this: that's what HMX and their corporate overlords decided to call it.

You know, the same companies that decided that they shouldn't limit themselves to a genre for the sake of a trademark.

Oh, and why is it called Guitar Hero when it has drums and vocals? Yeah, that makes a lot more sense than Rock Band occassionally dipping into other genres. Also forget that Guitar Hero has songs like "Beat it" and "On The Road again".

"I think I'll stick with Guitar Hero, at least it's not against my beliefs"

What? "Beliefs"? Are the rock platforms religions now? And your beliefs are that anything you don't like should be completely destroyed so no one else can enjoy it? Well, I guess that furthers the proof that they're religions. (Apologies to the non-whackjob religious people reading this, I'm only talking about the whackjobs)

And now to draw a full circle of hypocrisy, I will say that anyone who doesn't like the banjo-line in Sin Wagon should be completely destroyed.

BTW it's obvious that Snoop Dogg's getting in because of all the stuff he's doing with MTV. But it was a matter of time before RB included hip-hop (As soon as they announced a DLC-based platform you could have figured that one out), and you can do a lot worse than Snoop. I wouldn't mind some LPJZ though, just for the sake of transition ;) (and I'll even more people would have hated that)

@psych01 "OK I've said this for a long time now I love rock band but I'd like to see some Hip Hop on there not Snoop, but more along the lines of  The Roots maybe a  little Gym Class.

What... the... could it be? ... someone actually made constructive critism regarding hip-hop in Rock Band?? Good call.

@ Xaiax: Better get a speech synthesizer to read off the posts to you (I know Opera has one). And set it to read very slowly if you don't want to end up in a hospital. Hope my novel of a post gives you a break :P

@ End_Boss: Because he's an attention whore... and re-posting his whole comment isn't much of a cure for that (no big deal though :) ). Still I don't know why he'd use bold + italics when everyone knows that CAPS LOCK IS AUTO-PILOT FOR COOL, as evidenced at the top of this post.

@KinjiroSSD: Yeah, I was thinking, a big Snoop Dogg fan could probably aready tell us which songs are going to make it to the platform, simply by asking him\her which songs feature healthy amounts of guitar, drums, and bass. Then again, most have drums and at least some bass, and that plastic guitar has played non-guitar sounds before more than once (Smokin' organ solo anyone?)

Anyway, Snoop finally makes it to Rock Band and we couldn't be happier.
