Sony: New PSP Battery Life Same As "Old" PSP Battery Life

Sony's all "psshhhh, whatevs" over talk that the new PSP-3000 will have a reduced battery life.

Fear the ring.
Fear the ring.
If you're like me, you recently bought a new "slim" PSP and haven't really used it enough to justify your weird hardware collecting habits. You're also thinking about slipping off your shoes and working the rest of the day in your socks, even though you hate people who walk around an office with no socks on. You're probably also simultaneously excited and annoyed that Sony's already announced plans to release a new piece of PSP hardware.

There's been a lot of talk lately about the battery life of the upcoming PSP-3000, largely due to its brighter screen--that power's gotta come from somewhere, right? Sony's John Koller posted on the company's official blog this morning claiming that that you needn't worry--the same four-to-six hours you get for games and four-to-five hours you'll get for all those UMD movies you're watching on your current PSP will be just as four-to-six houry on the new hardware.

And hey, don't forget that along with that nicer screen, you'll also get a built-in microphone and a smaller ring on the back. Look for that smaller ring to hit stores next month.

Gotta say, I'm pretty excited about this.  Although, I literally today was thinking about buying a red God of War PSP.  Oh well, I can wait a bit longer, it's not like the Kingdom Hearts stuff or FFXIII is anytime soon.

I like the look of the new 3000, but I just bought the blue 2000. I'll stick with that until some time after Christmas, then I'll get a 3000. I'm actually more excited about the news out of Japan today. Where your Ad-Hoc PSP games will be played online via PS3 connection. They're adding friend lists, and other features to go with it. Plus, Playstation Store access straight from the PSP. Soooo happy. The only thing to make me happier, would be confirmation of all that hitting North America and Trophy Support. Just think, a Universal ID with Trophies on both PSP and PS3 games. I'm all a quiver.

The ring is a feature because it's now touch sensitive like the iPod. The older ring was just for looks and building a touch sensistive one that fat would have sent the price up.

SSX there are tons of great games on the PSP, if you can't see that then leave and don't jump on the "teh psp sukz, there arents any goodz gamez to play" bandwagon. Anyway, I though this revision just had a anti-glare screen, not a brighter screen.

I think the PSP Team and the PS2 team are on a race to find out who can make the slimiest game system of all time.

I love how they're on the 3rd version of hardware already yet all the games consist of console ports with crap controls. I have an original PSP and I'm still waiting for amazing games to play on it. PASS.

I got a slim when it first came out (didn't own a PSP before), and I'd say wait for them to make one that's more like an iPhone of some sort.

That redesign of the ring may be to create less scratching on it maybe? It's not only thinner, but the finish of the metal is different so maybe it's more resistant.

I only got a PSP-2000 a couple of months ago and theres already a couple of scratches on the ring, not that i'm too bothered. I do feel a little bummed out by this announcement, but the changes aren't drastic enough to make it want it. If anything it's putting me off, the battery life's not that great anyway so it sucks to make it even lower.

Save your money and wait for the PSP-4000 right? Because who cares about getting good games, we need more versions of the PSP! Right? No?

What it needs is a better library, not another redesign.

Somebody really needs to work on battery technology.  All of our electronic are advancing but the battery lifes are staying the same.  First the iPhone, now this!  When will it end?

Damn, I was hoping they'd stick a more powerful battery in there and make it last longer. I want to play my PSP for longer :(.
