Sony Traps Ghostbusters Release In Europe And Australia

Sony will publish Ghostbusters: The Video Game as a timed exclusive for the PlayStation systems in all PAL regions.

In a late-game move Sony announced today they've acquired the publishing rights to Ghostbusters: The Video Game in Europe all Australia. This will make the title a PlayStation exclusive for the near future in those territories with other platforms getting the release "later this year." As it stands now the PS2 and PS3 versions of the game are set for a June 19 release to coincide with the 25th anniversary release of the original movie on Blu-Ray. A PSP version will follow in the Fall.

It is important to note that no mention of any changes with the North American release of the game are mentioned in the press release and Destructoid reports that the Atari release here moves forward unaffected. The only nugget of speculation for why this publishing change happened so late is that this is somehow tied to Columbia Pictures, who is owned by Sony, distributing the movie all those years ago.  In any case, this is a major bummer for PAL territories. Personally, I blame Ray for thinking about it and making it true.
