Splinter Cell 6 Is In The Works

Sit tight though, no word on night-vision goggles yet.

Earlier this summer, Ubisoft made it known that a new Splinter Cell was in the works at its Toronto studio. What it neglected to mention was if this new title would be another direct follow-up to the core franchise. Turns out that it is: Splinter Cell 6 is indeed on the way.

This confirmation comes via a studio-tour video Ubisoft distributed to Eurogamer last week. In it, managing director Jade Raymond says quite plainly, "We're working on Splinter Cell 6, the next iteration of the blockbuster franchise, and we're doing it completely here in Toronto."

No Caption Provided

As MTV points out in their story about this reveal, Ubisoft Montreal has had a hand in most Splinter Cell titles, making Splinter Cell 6 a bit of a departure. And the Toronto studio seems up to the task in terms of numbers. In the video, Raymond says there are 83 people working at the studio now and within 10 years that number may reach 800 if staffing plans pan out.

Raymond says little else about Splinter Cell 6 after confirming that it's in the works, which is to be expected since it's indicated that the game is still pretty early on in development. The part of me that likes finishing games hopes that Splinter Cell 6 builds off of Conviction's simplified gameplay design, but again, nothing of substance about this in-the-works game has been made public yet.

There should be some more raw interrogation segments, and more hilariously bad drunken voice acting.

Awesome! Hopefully they stick to a lot of the design they had in Conviction since that was a breath of fresh air.

I don't understand.  This has been known for quite sometime already.  At least since the opening of the studio months ago.

Glad it's still a Canadian studio doing it - the single player usually suffers when it's handed over to Shanghai.

I want a proper Splinter Cell with almost pure focus on stealth, like Chaos Theory. That's THE best Splinter Cell in my book.

How old is Sam fisher going to be in this one? I thought he was already around 60, its kind of getting ridiculous.

"800 people in 10 years..."

Wasn't Assassin's Creed team, considered the largest to be working on a single game, composed of 200-ish people? Is that what's going to be required for next-gen games?

As fun as 'Splinter Cell: Conviction' was (I enjoyed it, sue me!) I'm hoping for some of the tactical elements [last seen in the last-gen versions of 'Double Agent'] to be brought back without compromising the speedy nature of Conviction's gameplay...!

1,3,5 have been the best in the series. Montreal isn't developing the game so it has some serious proving to do.

I'm glad to hear one of my favorite game properties is coming back.

I liked Conviction, but I didn't like the over-the-top-with-angry Sam, and I'd like the ability to complete missions without killing anyone.

I think Conviction was the most overrated game this year. I think Blood Stone thrashed it thoroughly in every department, yet it's still hovering 20 points below Conviction.

Please get rid of Mike Ironside, and while you're at it toss out the dope family shit as well. Also please try to get with the program, we've moved past Unreal 2.

Hopefully they greatly expand on Conviction's gameplay. And I mean, like, REALLY expand on it. Like, you know the major leap in game-design between SC1/Pandora Tomorrow to Chaos Theory? That big of a leap.
Let us be able to do ghost runs and make the game DIFFICULT. That'd be lovely.

I may be in the minority (have no idea what the reception was like for Conviction) but I hope they return to Chaos Theory style gameplay.

Man, I liked Conviction, and I've beaten every SC except Double Agent (fuck that game).

That said, Sam Fisher's kinda getting old. Coming close to driving 45 in a 60 old and complaining that the government should stay out of Medicare old.
