Splinter Cell 6 Is In The Works

Sit tight though, no word on night-vision goggles yet.

Earlier this summer, Ubisoft made it known that a new Splinter Cell was in the works at its Toronto studio. What it neglected to mention was if this new title would be another direct follow-up to the core franchise. Turns out that it is: Splinter Cell 6 is indeed on the way.

This confirmation comes via a studio-tour video Ubisoft distributed to Eurogamer last week. In it, managing director Jade Raymond says quite plainly, "We're working on Splinter Cell 6, the next iteration of the blockbuster franchise, and we're doing it completely here in Toronto."

No Caption Provided

As MTV points out in their story about this reveal, Ubisoft Montreal has had a hand in most Splinter Cell titles, making Splinter Cell 6 a bit of a departure. And the Toronto studio seems up to the task in terms of numbers. In the video, Raymond says there are 83 people working at the studio now and within 10 years that number may reach 800 if staffing plans pan out.

Raymond says little else about Splinter Cell 6 after confirming that it's in the works, which is to be expected since it's indicated that the game is still pretty early on in development. The part of me that likes finishing games hopes that Splinter Cell 6 builds off of Conviction's simplified gameplay design, but again, nothing of substance about this in-the-works game has been made public yet.

This is pretty old news.  BlogTO posted that Ubi Toronto is working on the next Splinter Cell back in October.

Dident like conviction. The simplified gameplay really ruined the learning curve and difficulty the series was known for.

Another? I haven't been interested in this series since Chaos Theory. I wonder if they will do anything to change that.

Brad Nicholson's journalistic chops have been called in to question many, many times already, and rightly so.  How he continues to draw a paycheck as a so-called "news writer" is beyond me.

Alright! Some more drunken Michael Ironside is
exactly what I need...though I've yet to play a single
one of these games due to the overall shortness
of them. May need to rent previous.

Ah, the latest game in the Tom Clancy's 6 Series, following the award-wining Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6.

I hope this is an ACTUAL splinter cell game, and not 24: the game starring Sam Fisher again, I really hope they return to the chaos theory formula, with maybe some crazy unexplored setting and evironment and an interesting story, but most of all, I want an updated take on the older games gameplay, and first and foremost, level design; there was nothing of the clever level design in Conviction, and I think thats one of the games major faults.
Less shoot and run, more takedowns and slow moving stealth, and the intense moments of Chaos theory, where you're just trying to not touch the guard that's standing two inches beside you

No Sam Fisher, As much as I love Sam Fisher. He has fucked up everything(storywise), so I think he needs to retire and take a break. He's gone through hell.

Despite being a little under whelmed with Conviction, I actually enjoyed it on the whole. I really hope they bring out Co-Op and Versus (Mercs Vs. Spies especially).

I actually think there is PLENTY of good ground in the 80s/90s when Sam was working for the CIA that would make for an excellent game. I would love to play the original special forces raid of the bank from CT that Redding mentions. "

Hmm, while your point is valid - nah. If they are sticking with the same old infiltrate-building-while-avoiding-dudes gameplay, then they have to up the story into crazy territory. Non-descript-European-dude-stealing-nukes just don't cut it anymore for me. Snoretown. Give me full-blown off the rails Sam Fisher. Not disobeying orders (Yawn) but have him vomiting on bars stools and punching the bejesus out of cab drivers. And it ends with him sacrificing his wretched life to save the world accidentally while he urinating up against a wall or something. Seriously, screw with the series that much and you got me.

Cool. Conviction was great; only Splinter Cell that wasn't so great was Double Agent. I totally forgot about that game too. All they need to do is expand on Conviction a bit and it'd be amazing. At first when I played Conviction I was dissapointed since I liked the original Splinter Cell gameplay, but now, I think they should keep it how it is and just expand on it. I don't want to go back to how it was necessarily.

Man, I liked Conviction, and I've beaten every SC except Double Agent (fuck that game).

That said, Sam Fisher's kinda getting old. Coming close to driving 45 in a 60 old and complaining that the government should stay out of Medicare old.

Hopefully they greatly expand on Conviction's gameplay. And I mean, like, REALLY expand on it. Like, you know the major leap in game-design between SC1/Pandora Tomorrow to Chaos Theory? That big of a leap.
Let us be able to do ghost runs and make the game DIFFICULT. That'd be lovely.

I think Conviction was the most overrated game this year. I think Blood Stone thrashed it thoroughly in every department, yet it's still hovering 20 points below Conviction.

Please get rid of Mike Ironside, and while you're at it toss out the dope family shit as well. Also please try to get with the program, we've moved past Unreal 2.

I liked Conviction, but I didn't like the over-the-top-with-angry Sam, and I'd like the ability to complete missions without killing anyone.
