So when you say disappointing.... didnt Giant Bomb give it a 4 stars?? I guess it can still be disappointing... hmmm I was going to go back and play it until you had said that ....

Well that's disappointing. Whoever's making the new Riddick game, I hope it turns out to be good.

@foxmulder: Fair enough, I guess Patrick found it to be disappointing, to your point? I guess there was a reason I didn't play it when it came out either, and I think for me it was just the thought of dropping the focus from hand to hand combat to gunplay, which I thought was honestly very weak in that first game.

I liked Dark Athena, it wasn't as well realised as Butcher Bay but it had some of the best performances from characters i've seen in any video game ever.

Fun Fact: I totally own Assault on Dark Athena and have never even installed it. Of course, hearsay suggests that Butcher Bay is the superior half of the game anyways.

I actually liked Dark Athena more than Butcher Bay. It had some crappy moments like the spider turrets and the insta-death stealth sections, but the weird, dark and expansive ship of the title was more interesting than that sandy jail, Xzibit prison wardens notwithstanding. It's kind of like the Chronicles of Riddick movie in that respect: some great ideas that were ultimately let down with some equally bad ones.

I own three copies of Assault on Dark Athena (one for PS3 and two for PC), and I haven't installed either of them (nor my copy of the original Buther Bay for PC).

Patrick, get us the Vin Diesel Dumptruck we need.

Red Barrels should make a Riddick game. I mean they essentially did already with Outlast.

Honestly I think it's less that Assault on Dark Athena was disappointing and more that Escape from Butcher Bay's mechanics really didn't hold up.

That said, the new movie was fucking awesome.

Assault on Dark Athena contained Butcher Bay and the new Dark Athena content. Most people found the Dark Athena content to be lacking while finding the HD update of Butcher Bay to still be pretty great. 4 stars for the whole package, not just Dark Athena.

Just let Vin Diesel make that DnD game you know he really wants to make.

I think I like Dark Athena even better than the main game. The atmosphere and sense of place on the spaceship was great.

I personally thought Michelle Forbes was a much better antagonist than Xzibit.

Just aswell, the PC version of Dark Athena is a terribly optimized and broken port. Butcher Bay Directors Cut was pretty good though.

I thought Dark Athena was decent. I did play Butcher Bay back when it came out on the Xbox and enjoyed it but I didnt think it was amazing like some people did. And playing both games back to back made me appreciate how Dark Athena managed to break up the stealth mechanics. Obviously it's smaller in scope since it's more of an expansion but if you enjoyed the original and dont view it through rose tinted glasses you should enjoy it.

Anyway, i'm sure Vin just ment that some of the people who worked on TCOR are working on this new game, either ex Starbreeze or Tigon people. Although "reassembled" is kind of a weird way of putting it. Either way i'm excited for a new dark sci-fi game that isnt a shooter. (presumably)

@aktane: I think he was saying that in terms of how the game is compared to Escape from Butcher Bay which a lot of people considered to be a far better game than Assault on Dark Athena (which focused more on gunplay which was not as great as the melee combat or stealth gameplay) but it is not at all indicative of the overall quality of the game since a lot of reviewers did give it pretty good scores despite it not living up to the expectations of the previous game.

BLASPHEMOUS!!! Don't you DARE accuse Brad's DOTA obsession to be reflective of his overall ability as a reviewer! There is nothing wrong at waking up at 4 in the morning on a week day in order to play a match before coming in to work! Nothing wrong with that at all!! That's just Brad showing great time management and dedication to his craft as a professional games person!!! >:(

If there's one thing you have to give Vin Diesel props for, it's his dedication. Good for him.

I've never played the Riddick games, but I've only heard good things.

Disappointing follow up? Assault on Dark Athena got pretty high reviews and I loved it just as much as Butcher Bay honestly. Those are my two favorite stealth games next to the Metal Gear series.

As for the new movie? Meh, 3 out of 5. It's okay. . . Yeah.

Starbreeze is having a hell of a year. Payday 2 is awesome despite what some people on a website about video games might say, and I haven't played Brothers but I bet it's just as good as everyone says.

I would assume if you want to get a comment you just need to try and get a hold of the big man himself. I'm sure Vin would be receptive if you went through the right channels.

I'm really excited that a new Riddick game is being made. Whether it's Tigon Studios, or Starbreeze Studios that's making it, I'll still buy it on it's first week.

I tried it a year or two ago, didn't get very far. It was mildly interesting but I don't know that the mechanics hold up that well. Way more running back and forth on errands than I expected. Fun if you like the Riddick universe, though.

I tried to play through the original game for the first time when Dark Athena came out and the whole thing felt really dated. I think I quit when the game had some terrible sequence where you had to control a robot. I remember the prison part being pretty cool though.

I hope he does it, man. I love Riddick.

Butcher Bay was a masterful game when it came out. I don't think the geniuses behind it will ever make something as intelligent.

I saw Riddick on Sunday, it has a great first act and the rest of it is a decent rehash of Pitch Black. I came out of it really hoping for another game because to me Escape from Butcher Bay is easily the best form of Riddick (The AI bugs in Dark Athena kinda bummed me out a bit). So happy to hear there is something in the works and cool to hear they are trying to pull the old team back together, we will see what that actually means.
