Tecmo Koei Planning Wii Successor Launch Games, Insert Dynasty Warriors Joke

Publishers are beginning to ramp up public talk about Nintendo's hardware.

As we move closer to E3, more companies are acknowledging Nintendo has another platform coming. Ubisoft yesterday confirmed reports the machine would be capable of keeping up with Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and today, Tecmo Koei revealed it was hoping to have launch titles for the machine.

Andriasang and 4Gamer have been covering Tecmo Koei's financial results, wherein recently appointed CEO Yoichi Erikawa reportedly said the company was beginning work on games for Wii's successor.

No details outside of that, sadly, but with Nintendo's next console coming "sometime" in 2012, there appears to be ample time for companies to begin preparing software for it.

This is not a joking matter

Not interested in any of their games to be honest.

Ugh stop making these games.

Insert Dynasty Warriors joke?  I thought Dynasty Warriors WAS the joke?
umm.... I don't like the tag team of the Dynasty Warriors but much prefer the DY-NASTY Boys...

yeah that joke sucked...

Edited by Hailinel

Fuck yeah!

Also, Patrick, the Samurai Warriors series has been Koei's Warriors series of choice on Nintendo hardware for some time now.

DYNASTYYYYYYYY RACEEEEEER

I genuinely despise that series - all of it. Samurai, Dynasty, Orochi, it's all different shades of the same shit.

Who cares about the damn Yellow Turban Rebellion anymore? Give it a rest.

No, that was actually pretty good.

Guess I'm one of the vocal few that still gives the Musou games a lenient look. They scratch the beat'em up itch that I've had since I started playing video games. I can't argue that they haven't evolved the genre in the ways Devil May Cry and God of War has. If anything, the Musou games just multiply the virtues and flaws of older beat'em ups.

I think a new Ninja Gaiden or Fatal Frame is more likely.

If it's Fatal Frame, it probably won't come out here. Fatal Frame 4 is still stuck in Japan, and there's no plans for the FF2 Wii remake to be localized.

Yeah more games utilizing 1000-hit combos using 1 button.

I take it you've never actually played these games before, because what you state is hilarious fiction.

The joke would be if it were a virtual console version of Romance of the Three Kingdoms...

Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV is already on Virtual Console.

Hey guys, remember how awesome Dynasty Warriors 7 was?  No, you don't, because you're happy on that ridiculous bandwagon?  Edit:  That may have sounded a little mean.  The games are good, and the amount of hate they get is befuddling.

Tecmo Koei is just a holding company. This could mean anything video game wise.

I understand why a lot of people don't like this series. But seeing it grow as it has from Dynasty Warriors 3 to Dynasty Warriors 7 has been a good time. I've played all the DW games, and I haven't been disappointed much. Sometimes you just need a game where you take out literally hundreds of peons at a time for fun. And fun is what these games are about.

I'm personally more interested in the Samurai Warriors series. After SW3 being a Wii exclusive, I'm excited to see if they'll have a SW4 on this new console, or do another crazy crossover like the Warriors Orochi games. Whatever is coming, I'm ready and excited!

I like Dynasty Warriors.

@Hailinel: Dammit,you're right......OK,Kessen then!
Posted by fox01313
@Hailinel:
Actually I've played the early PS1/PS2 versions of Dynasty Warriors off demo discs from game magazines as well as the demos of the DW Gundam games on XBL which was all I've ever needed without ever having the desire to buy one of the DW games. The 1000 hit combos is more in the Devil Kings games. Wrong franchise but just as bad on the monotony with maybe a few hundred less on the hit combo meters on the DW games.

@DrJota: That would be amazing, given that all of the Kessen titles are on the PS2.  I wouldn't argue, though.  Those games are fun.

Hell, give me Kessen IV on the Nintendo Wii2CafeStream and I'll be happy.

@fox01313: So you know fuck-all about the series, then.  Fantastic.

Here's a lesson for you:

1.  Start up Dynasty Warriors 7.

2.  Play as far as you can by only pressing the normal attack button.  That means no charge attacks, no musou attacks, no weapon changes, no blocking, no jumping, no calling your horse.

3.  See how far you actually get.

4.  As a bonus, try this strategy on Hard mode or Expert.

Go on.  Try it, I dare you.  Let's see how high you can get your combos.

If they keep making the same game, over and over, they will eventually reach perfection! Eventually. Maybe. I heard 7 was pretty good...

Posted by Cold_Wolven

Nothing they make appeals to me so that's just more mediocre news until a real AAA development studio get behind the Wii's successor.

I cant wait for The Dynasty Warriors

I've played through an entire Dynasty Warrior game without doing more than moving and pressing a single button. On hard. What do I win?

I don't think there is a more soulless franchise than the Dynasty/Samurai Warriors series.

Posted by Tebbit

Techmo hasn't made a good game since Point Blank, and Koei hasn't made a good game ever.

So colour me excited

Posted by infestedandy

Dude, Dynasty Warriors 7 is actually badass.

No I'm not kidding.

Posted by JTShadow

Yeah, I hear everyones first thought goes to Dynasty Warriors, but I'm hoping they bring back the Aerobiz series! Seriously, I haven't found a game like it since.

Posted by ryanwho

Kingdom Hearts and God of War are every bit as "press one button, kill everything" as Dynasty Warriors, in that if you're a tool who puts the game on easy then presses x, you'll win. Most modern games are pretty simple. So I think its pretty funny to see some kids shitting on an IP they never played then going back to their mindless shooter or their mindless action game.

You get the satisfaction of knowing you're petty enough to lie about something completely trivial to win an internet debate. Or, conversely, that you regularly play through games you don't like, to their entirety, to prove a point to some random person on the internet. So enjoy that. Cus you're kind of a loser either way. You're living the life.

Those DW: Gundam games weren't bad. Of course, that may have been due to Namco's quality control, but still...

Joke now about Dynasty Warriors but you know there will be one.

Sengoku Basara was badass though.  It seemed to finally evolve that sub genre into something special and different.  It's certainly a step in the right direction.

Personally I love the Dynasty Warriors series and games of the "Army Killer" genre. They're definitely games that make the player feel like an all-powerful demigod and are cathartic as hell.

Me too!

The main complaint - and justifiably so - is that sequel after sequel gets really repetitive when no real new gameplay is introduced. But the good games (e.g. Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes Gaiden) are some of my favorites.
