At first I thought "I will just have fun playing without paying extra, those subscribers are just wasting money," but then as I invested more time into Tetris and realized how much of an advantage those subscribers had, I just had to sign up. That put me way ahead of all the penny-less noobs.

But then I realized I can't beat the best players out there because they have paid for all the microtransaction extras, and I'd come this far so why not start paying a dollar a match for time-slow, guaranteed l-blocks, and that extra t-spin score bonus?

That got me to the top of the leaderboards, but of course I need to maintain my position. So I make sure to attend all of the Tetris-Cons (for a reasonable $120 fee) in order to keep current on upcoming patches, and I always get Beta keys from Ebay for the expansions. And of course I buy the Tetris-themed trading cards for the chance at an ultra-rare decal code; those decals can often help psychologically, so they're pretty much a necessity.

Really, all of my decisions have been based on pretty sound logic. I don't see why you guys are complaining.

Boy I love how they're doing this right in the middle of a fucking recession when peoples houses are getting foreclosed, they're having a hard time finding work, unemployment is incredibly high, and it could get worse before it gets better. Every single one of these developers, publishers, companies, cocksuckers, pieces of shit, and what have you should be taken out into the fucking bush and shot. This is absolutely pathetic blatant price gouging and it's because we (as gamers) allowed them to do it, and because we (as gamers) are fucking stupid sometimes. "Yeah sure do it once, twice, oh you're going to keep on doing it? Okay that's fine. Wait a minute here. Hey hey hey. Stop! No? Okay."

There are two groups to blame, and both share the fault equally. Journalists for not being critical enough, and gamers for not caring enough while still buying into this fucking bullshit. Period. We should all be fucking ashamed of ourselves.

eh, the basic game of Tetris has never changed. Just play another version.

I love how everyone is talking about this ( indeed stupid ) subscription instead of the actual game itself, which happens to have an incredibly clever way to use touch controls to play. Everyone likes bad news though, so it makes sense that the media would focus on the negative.

The thing is, this T-club thing is totally and completely optional, and not once has the game made even a single attempt to encourage me to buy into it, let alone reveal the feature's existance. In fact, I wouldn't have even known the thing was even in the game if not for articles pointing out how dumb it is.

Then again, I probably wouldn't know this new ( and quite excellent ) Tetris game was even out if not for articles like this, so I really can't complain. It's just a bummer that nobody is willing to talk about any of the good things happening.

Its all about the transition from Tetris as a Product to Tetris as a Service.

Wow I can actually tell my niece; I remember a Time when Tetris was a game you didn't have have a subscription model attach to it.

you know, the idea of a monthly Tetris fee doesn't bother me too much, but it'll be a cold fucking day in hell when I pay money to play Tetris on a system that doesn't have a d-pad!

Every time a new piece drops you have to pay 0.99$ when you make a line you get that money back :D.

Patrick, wake up, you should mention the original "Tetris" on the App Store is now removed, and replaced with this new one. It is not an update, but an entirely new standard "Tetris" game instead of having some subtitle.

That separate point deserves its own wtf.

Patrick, next time I see the box art for Tetris on the Game Boy as the tagged image for a story, the headline next to it ought to be "THE VERSION OF TETRIS THAT MATTERS IS COMING TO 3DS SHOP/WII/DIRECTLY TO YOUR BRAIN"
