The Mighty Goro, Actual Size

Who's the big guy now!?!

This komes kourtesy of Mortal Kombat ko-kreator Ed Boon. According to the tweet this accompanied, what you're looking at is the stop-motion rig used to capture the various frames of animation used for Goro in the original Mortal Kombat. It's pretty incredible to realize just how teensy that model was, as well as how much the game development process has changed since then.

That's sweet.

I love that it looks like a Junior High science fair project.  Either that, or the sequel to Weird Science.

Posted by Black_Rose

That's awesome. I used to have a Goro, Scorpion and Sub-zero figures back when I was a kid, I miss them :'(

Why haven't they sold action figures of this? *waits to be proven wrong*

Those are just actually an over-sized desk and lamp

Posted by Claude

It keeps moving dammit, "put tape on it". The light's not high enough, "books and that cookie jar thing... do it... tape it down".

Posted by Stephen_Von_Cloud

That is hilarious

Posted by ZeroCast

Look at that, just look at it, doesn't that deserve to be in some kind of a Museum of Games?

Time is moving rapidly people and we got to do something to preserve our gaming past.

Awww... lookitthelittleguy... he's sooo cute!

Ray Harryhausen would be proud of that.

Sweet insight.

You guys run some weird ass "news" stories. Seriously, what the fuck.

Posted by Death_Burnout

I new it was made like that, but not that small.

"Komes Kourtesy" is effing terrible Ryan.

eBay?

Posted by FlipperDesert

The comments starting from Black_Rose to Canberra all have "awesome" in them, I thought that was pretty awesome so I thought I would share it with you.

That model is goddamn tiny, it's amazing how much games have changed since then.

Posted by Donkey_Kong

Where's Jorden Mechner's brother?

Posted by TripMasterMunky

"as well as how much the game development process has changed since then."

Indeed. Pretty awesome though.

Posted by GreggD

Damn, awful lot of "awesome"s in the comments. I'm not debating that it is, but that's a resounding response if I ever saw one.

Posted by Jimbo_N

wow. Insane find !
If I had unlimited money IRL and a huge house I´d buy that and put it in my art gallery.

Kool!

@ZeroCast: there is a museum in rochester
Posted by Crono

That is so awesome haha really cool to see how it was done in the way back when

Posted by JJOR64

I want that.....

Posted by IceColdGamer

Awesome.

@Death_Burnout: but 'ko-kreator' isn't? Whatever.

AAAAAAAANYWAYS, this is how they should make the next one. Spend a couple hundred bucks on some plasticine, buy some blue laminate board, a couple 100watt lamps, and go WILD!
Posted by brocool

Very professional... biscuit box taped to some books to hold that lamp.

mm danish cookies

Posted by Player1

haha that is extremely cool. Sweet to see how times have changed.

Posted by artofwar420

Wow, that's like epic. Should be in a museum.

Posted by ZeroCast
@Seananigans: Man, you just put a smile on my face, that's just great to hear.
Posted by MattyFTM

He looks bigger in real life...

Sweet. It would have been cool to see more pictures of the little guy, though.

Saw that pic or one just like it in GamePro back when MK II was hyping up. I miss that particular moment in gaming history quite a bit. Fond memories.

@ZeroCast: Yeah, I live in NY but have yet to go. If you google it you can find some info, I'm sure that  pushing for these historical relics to be properly preserved and showcased would be appealing to the developers. So long as the keep the super mario super show guys from scaring the kids.

why, my memories of him have all but shattered now.  Goro.. small?  NooOOOooOOoooo.......

Posted by slantedwindows

doesn't matter how big or small he is, he was still cheap as fuck!

@Suicrat:

Ko-Kreator is just fine. So is Kombo and so is Koin.

Lol I was thinking the same thing.  I won't say it's awesome because it's already been mentioned how awesome it is, many times.
Posted by Alex_Murphy

Heh, I love how ghetto it looks with the desk lamp and tape. But that was the good old days when 4 people could get together and make a game.

Posted by AllanIceman

Dude, Awesome!

@Black_Rose:
I'm looking at Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Reptile figures on my dresser right now. I got them at KB Toys a few years back, not sure if they sell them anymore.

I had a Noob Saibot figure as well, but my brother broke his arm.. it doesn't really matter, he was the worst looking one (actually grey instead of jet black). But yeah, the other ones are pretty awesome.

In a related story, I'm a total nerd.
Posted by Kyle

Wow, cool.

Posted by HatKing

They should do stop motion character but with super high resolution and a shit load of a frames.  It'd look so weird but it'd be awesome.
