Hmm, I don't know that I care for the dashboard updates anymore. My Wii already has avaters so I don't need any more, in fact I don't think I needed any in the first place.

I don't know about this NEW dashboard, is it going to be functional or just look pretty?  I don't really care about the Microsoft Miis, as long as everything is easy to find.  Because I know where everything is NOW using blades.  I'll guess we'll see on Monday.

I think the update will be good, so long as avatars aren't forced where they arn't a nessesity. Don't like the new guide menu though, looks alot more intrusive and less functional

Apparently a recent Rockband 2 dashboard advertisement says the update is happening in November.

Can't say I'm looking forward to the changes, hate the whole avatar thing!

If the network crashes like it did a while back, we might get another free arcade game....
though, there arent many good ones on live so, hopefully not.

All I really have to say is i wish they would just improve performance, and let you choose between the new and the old themes while still having the update. The new interface does admitably look amazing, but it looks like the kinda cake even the fattest man can only hava small slice of because its so damn sugary. AS for the avatars I love it, but I think they shold allow like, several different styles like, cartoony, anime, realistic, as well as what they have now. I prefer the way Home avatars look as opposed to Miis. However I am glad to see more then a few spheres stretched around to vaguely resemble  ahuman form, and I will mos tcertainly spend hours looking through EVERY single avatar item, being a customization nutjob. I also really like the achievment gear that is supposedly gunna happen, as it gives people a better reason to play well and get achievements, i just hope people are smart enough to keep the achievements that reward an item for your avatar are NOT ONLINE ACHIEVEMENTS. Its bad enough already.
And here's hoping installing games on your HDD will make Oblivion run as smotthly as it should =) And speed up those damn Halo 3 loading screens v.v

I wonder how console's will mysteriously get bricked if this is an update to the system (even though it won't be the full update)

well that's just wonderful, considering i just payed $100 so i could get my xbox fixed

I am excited for this update. It looks amazing and more simple, all i want from a update.
But i for one arent a tired diablo goth always saying old games are better than new, scared of colour and brightness like mold in a cave. My main concern is variety in the clothes I mean we can't have 10000000 people all doning a green shirt and blue jeans. I mean come on we can't have our avatars clashing people ;-) Jokes im wraped that i can install to the harddrive, makes me kinda glad i didnt trade in every game i brought like 2 weeks later, come on people why pay 120 one week and sell it for 20 a couple of weeks later.

I still think this new dashboard is fucking atrocious. I recently unplugged my 360 from Xbox Live so that there's no way I can get it.

If they aren't even prepping for this until Sept. 29th, that 5 hour G4 special is on the 25th is going to be pretty boring.

@Gryphon: No they didn't. If they had, you could supply a source. What was said is that Fall ends in November, and therefore the update must be out by then.

@Osiris: Are you one of those people that stop paying attention once they see "avatar" and assumes that is the extent of the update? Tell me another console that lets you load the entire disc onto the hard drive... Really.

How come Microsoft always uses the word "Innovation" when they use things that have been done and seen before. Not saying this is anything bad, I'm very glad for the Xbox360 owners because it looks okay.. But it's far from innovative... Really.

The update is usually less then a few mb.  What brings Xbox Live down is when people make changes to there account or make new account like during Christmas.  All those processes take up server resources, while bandwidth is usually distributed off site.  So when the inhouse servers choke it messes everything else up.

What they should do is background download while you're on before it goes live.  Just a small bit that won't hurt your ping too much, then when it does go live you download the last few megs to complete it.  That way the servers aren't bogged down by everyone on the launch day.

Much like how Blizzard handles it's patches.

I don't get the whole Wii wanna-be approach that M$ is now embarking on. Hardare failures aside, the XBox 360 experience has been hands down the best of the 3 consoles.  Why mess with it? 

A whole day? I don't know if I can go a whole day without playing on Live...

Can't wait for this update.. hopefully I'll have my xbox back from red-ring fixing when the patch comes out

You'll have to take a break from your sleepless search for Ice-T in Call of Duty 4 this coming Monday, as Microsoft announced this morning that in preparation for the divisive New Xbox Experience, Xbox Live will be offline for a full 24 hours on September 29. While this certainly suggests that the roll-out of the new dashboard business is imminent, there is no confirmation from Microsoft that this signifies the actual launch. I'm not totally sold on on all the avatar stuff, but I've seem the new dashboard in motion for myself, and it's pretty slick. I'm also very interested to see how well the play-from-hard-drive stuff works. The foolish optimist in me hopes we'll all find out come 12:00AM on September 30!
