There Will Apparently Be a New Medal of Honor, and it Will Apparently Be Called 'Warfighter'

New OXM issue lets slip the details on Danger Close's follow up to its 2010 Medal of Honor reboot.

If you're the sort of person who simply cannot get enough of video game soldiers fighting video game wars that may or may not closely resemble real life wars and soldiers, then has EA ever got an announcement for you.

No, this isn't a screenshot of Medal of Honor: Warfighter. We don't have any of those yet.
No, this isn't a screenshot of Medal of Honor: Warfighter. We don't have any of those yet.

Though the publisher hasn't come out with a press release or anything yet, Game Informer is reporting that the upcoming issue of Official Xbox Magazine unveils EA's latest spin on dudes fighting wars in Medal of Honor: Warfighter.

Developed by Danger Close Games, the team behind the 2010 Medal of Honor reboot that our Jeff Gerstmann was not overly fond of, Warfighter will once again follow a team of Tier One Operators, and will be developed using DICE's Frostbite 2.0 engine, the same used on Battlefield 3. Multiplayer will be built in-house this time around, as opposed to last time, where it was farmed out to DICE.

EA is expected to reveal more of Medal of Honor: Warfighter at GDC next month. Or, you know, you can just pick up a copy of OXM and see all the screenshots and interviews and what have you. That's what it's there for, after all.

So development of the multiplayer is being handled by the same developer as the Medal of Honor single-player that was pretty much universally reviled? What could possibly go wrong?

Universally? Personally, the single-player was the most interesting bit of Medal of Honor (2010). And even then it was still a scripted corridor.

It's nice that Danger Close has another chance at making a game because I really liked some of the things in Medal of Honor (2010). I know this has little chance of coming true, but I hope they take Warfighter more in the direction of tactical simulators like the old Rainbow 6 and Ghost Recon games. I really want Danger Close to make good on their mission to deliver an "authentic" military-themed experience. Medal of Honor (2010) still felt a bit too silly at times.

Also, as Danger Close is using Frostbite 2.0, I hope they tone down all the god damn lens flare and lighting effects.

I really enjoyed the campaign in Medal of Honor and I've played through it quite a few times. I think they created some great moments in their first effort so I'm interested to see what Danger Close does next with the series.

Medal of Honor 2 would have been a fine title though. Warfighter just sounds stupid. Is that even a word? Do you mean soldier? Who ever says warfighter? Sounds like broken English.

I liked the slightly more realistic campaign of the last MoH, but I hope they took the time to cook up better game with less heavy scripting. Also, something original with multiplayer would be nice. Co-op only multi would do me fine.

The Call of Duty games up that point where WW2 stuff, so it at least makes sense to let people know that CoD4 is about "Modern Warfare" even if it is not a particularly cool or interesting sounding name. It let you know something new about the game.

Warfighter adds nothing to the title MoH:Warfighter but length.

I realize that CoD4 needed the subtitle, but at this point it's become rather redundant. Also, all of the stuff Danger Close has tried to do since Medal of Honor 2010 was make it a story about the soldier. A personal thing. So calling it Warfighter, singular, is more or less a continuation of what they've been doing all along.

I'm kind of excited about it, but as much as I like games like Ace Combat, I hope it's not some type of flight game; Warfighter kind of sounds like one. I'm actually kind of interested. The 2010 Medal of Honor had very little replay value, when it came out it was hard to even want to get through so I didn't go through it, until late last year, and I was pleasantly surprised.

It was incredibly short and it didn't necessarily have a satisfying conclusion, but overall it wasn't bad. I think what interests me most about this is that it'll be using the Frostbite 2.0 engine. It's kind of cool, the two underwhelming games of 2010 and 2011, Homefront and MoH, are both getting an overhaul with some of the best graphics engines in recent times.

The least I can say is that I'm somewhat excited to see where these two are headed and I'm hopeful as of right now.
