Tiberium Depleted

EALA cuts its losses on this Command & Conquer first-person shooter.

Further proof that FMV is vital to the C&C experience.
Further proof that FMV is vital to the C&C experience.
It seems that some sort of malignant curse is beginning to loom over first-person shooters set in the Command & Conquer universe--and really, any action game based on an RTS--as earlier today, EALA announced that it was canceling its upcoming C&C FPS, Tiberium. EA's Mike Verdu stated in a press release that Tiberium "was not on track to meet the high quality standards set by the team and by the EA Games Label." The statement went on to state that while EA would shuffle some personnel over to other projects where possible, a certain number of employees would have to be "released."

As a sci-fi tactical shooter set in the Command & Conquer universe, the only thing that really grabbed me about Tiberium was the Command & Conquer part, but I always feel cheated when games deep into development get the axe. I think EA has done a good job lately about identifying games that aren't clicking and cutting its losses, but part of me still wishes I could have played the final product.

Maybe they had to chop Tiberium to raise finances for a class action lawsuit against Spore & it's DRM issues?

Check out the comments in this page http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=20462 .  It seems like some (former) employees of EA LA are revealing how much of a clusterfuck this is.  There's plenty of bickering, it's great!

Not surprised, everything I saw about this game was lackluster at best, it fell off my radar a long time ago.

They need to make another Renegade.  The single player was terrible, but the multiplayer (especially once they added air vehicles) was more fun than most FPS.  That is the problem, everyone looks at Renegade for its single player "experience" which was extremely dull and lacking; where the game really shined was its Multiplayer.

From the information that had been released (which was not a whole lot), Tiberium actually seemed like it could be really cool. Bummer.

Renegade had a pretty lousy single player campaign. And that was the ONLY thing wrong with it. Anyone who says it sucks has never played it online. Online the game was perfectly balanced, fun and action packed. One of the most fun shooters I ever played online. You have vehicles, nice array of weapons, different classes to play with, buildings that have a huge impact on the game.
If ANYTHING, the game was ahead of its time!
But again, yes, the storyline in the single player was weak and, I concede, not the most fun to play.
