Tomb Raider HD Trilogy Hitting PS3 This March

Just in case you haven’t been following the hottest video game-related gossip, I’ll start with this: Crystal Dynamics is re-releasing Tomb Raider Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld in a pack called “The Tomb Raider Trilogy.” As you’d suspect, the set will feature HD versions of all these titles.

Publisher Square Enix has confirmed that this latest HD trilogy set is a PS3 exclusive and also announced that it will contain a few bonuses. To be specific, it’ll ship with an “exclusive static theme pack,” some behind-the-scenes trailers, and a Lara Croft and a Viking Thrall PlayStation Home avatar.

That's not a bad price.  Might be worth checking out these as I missed them the first time around.

How is this an HD re-release when all of those games have already been released on HD consoles ?

So are these basically just ports of the 360 versions of Legend & Anniversary and the PS3 version of Underworld, bundled into one package on PS3?

Wow, they couldn't spare some dude for 2 hours to make a dynamic theme huh?
 
Guess I'll stick with my Wipeout theme.  I already have all these games on Steam anyway.

I was hoping it was going to be the original  trilogy

All three of those were already in HD... This is just a simple compilation.

Well if Square Enix is doing this with Eidos stuff I wouldn't be to surprised if a Final Fantasy HD compilation was on the cards.

Between this and Just Cause 2, it seems like Squeenix has some type of third person exploratory niche they're really getting into.  Good on them for maintaining those Eidos franchises

This is one HD trilogy that didn't really need to happen.

Were these not HD to begin with?
 
...and ps: Save yerself a few bucks and just find a 10 dollar ccopy Tomb Raider: Legend.

I thought they meant the first 3 games, I am disappoint.
 
Are the developers themselves calling this a HD re-release or is other Brad just putting words in their mouths? :P

This would be great if Underworld wasn't utter garbage.  Thanks to my PS+ subscription, I got to play the 1-hour demo of it and was happy when the thing expired.  The completely f'd up camera and slippery controls felt so sloppy that I couldn't believe I actually wanted the old PS1 grid movement back.
 
Having said that, I did enjoy the brief time I spent with Legend, and I've heard Anniversary made a lot of improvements, so maybe I'll take the 2 out of 3 approach.

eh, I like the series enough, and only played Legend. So I might just get this.

Definitely going to pick this up. CD has done good with the series, up to this point.

Damn. Thought they were gonna do the first three games when i read the title.

Collections are awesome, but it weirds me out whenever I see gaming sites say things like "the set will feature HD versions of all these titles."
 
It'd be like if, in a hypothetical world, an 'Uncharted HD Collection' came out for the Xbox 360, and gaming sites said "Uncharted 1&2 will be released on 360.  This collection will feature HD graphics for both titles."

surely its just ports of the 2 360 games and then Underworld added. I guess they might gussie them up a wee bit from the 360 versions or I guess they could be using the PS2 versions for proper HD'ing up? Whatever really as I already played Legend and I have Underworld so its not an HD Collection I am hyped for. Splinter Cell and Team Ico though - now you're talking :D

so where on the box does it say "games so good we are rebooting the franchise for the 2nd time in 6 years"

the rereleases are very popular now adays.

An HD release of Tomb Raider 1, 2 and 3 would have been ten fucking times as awesome than this.

The box art says they've been remastered in HD, so either they've ported the PS2 versions of the titles or CrystalD is updating them to 1080p.

I swear, you people are so ugh...these games were not HD on the 360! And only Underworld came out on the PS3 previously. Seriously people, stop mouthin' off.
