Torchlight XBLA Pushes Torchlight II To July

Don’t expect Torchlight II to hit the market until later this summer. In a conversation with Digital Spy, Runic CEO Max Schaefer said that the ongoing development of Torchlight for Xbox Live Arcade has caused a slight delay on the development of Torchlight II, pushing the title back to a July release instead of its projected Spring date.

“I’d say that the Xbox project, having to do the extra work with the interface, has pushed us back a little bit, so we’re probably talking July right now for Torchlight II.” Runic has been proudly pumping up its effort on the UI and control front on the console port of the game, believing it can deliver a native-like experience.

I'm okay with this delay, because i'm still enjoying the first torchlight on a 3rd playthrough with the last class.

Sweiously though, im kind of okay with this, i really wanted a console port of Torchlight, and if the 2 were to release side by side? oversaturation!

Well then, I'm not buying XBLA Torchlight because I know that they've pushed Torchlight II back so that they can make some money on us buying Torchlight instead of Torchlight II.

I'm not particularly happy with a delay... but I do have plenty to keep me busy so I'll take it when it's good and done.

Don't know if it is because of Torchlight's PC roots, but both articles on here have been full of whining and asinine conspiracy theories. I don't get it. I bought Torchlight on PC. I'll buy it again on XBLA. I'll probably get Torchlight 2 on both platforms assuming they port it to XBLA eventually. Not like these downloadable games are expensive or even releasing near the same time. People need to chill.

This seems like a crappy trade, but if it will improve the PC version then...i dont know

Unlike most i think this is a great idea.  They obviously are taking their time on a port so it wont be crappy, and they are making more improvements on 2 with also is good.  Also will be able to play through 1 before 2 gets here.  Win win i think.

It's ok. I'm sure that Torchlight II will continue to still be exactly like Diablo.

Dam consoles ruining a good PC game again! Oh well. Between Dragon Age 2 and the new Dawn of War 2 expansion I should be good for awhile.

The real question is if Torchlight III will hit before Diablo III. Signs point to yes.

I don't like it but at the same time, I've got such a backlog it will be sometime before I get around to it anyway.  On the other hand, if Blizzard announces the release window for Diablo III before I get Torchlight II, I fairly certain I won't ever pick it up.

if they can make more money out of the game, all power to them ... and, lets be honest, there is not much to "dumb down" in a game like torchlight.

AHHHH!!!! I knew this would fucking happen. Godammit, why bother releasing Torchlight on consoles anyway? 90% of the market for that type of game is on the PC anyway, so the argument" the console version will really help fund Torchlight 2" is mostly invalid. And also, whenever a company says something like "Ya the console version really gives us alot of insight and ideas about what we can do to help better the PC version," it usually means that they take the dumbed down aspects of the inferior console ports and put in on PC.

Its not like the entire month of May-July there is only Torchlight 2 to play. Geez.

Sign me up for those who are ok with the delay. I like to imagine that the extra time will go into even more polish. Loved the first, can't wait for the next.

As long as it comes out before D3, it will get plenty of sales I think.  Waiting too long will just doom it.

Huh.  Well, good on them for having put in the time to try selling Torchlight and Diablo genre in general, to the console masses. 

This is fucking horseshit. You should have played the game on PC when it came out. It runs on any pc. It has a fucking netbook mode. I'm primarily a console gamer and I can see the bullshit that this is.
