Trine Out Early, Available Now On Steam

Frozenbyte's puzzle platformer has launched somewhat by surprise for the PC.

Frozenbyte's medieval 2D/3D platformer Trine, which lets you swap between three character classes on the fly to solve environmental puzzles and looks pretty sweet doing it, is suddenly available now on Steam. The game had been expected to release on PC as late as July 10, but forget about all that now. There's also a PSN version in the works, but we're currently awaiting word about exactly when that version will go up. You can nab the PC version for $29.99 now, or wait it out to get the PlayStation 3 version for 10 bones cheaper at $19.99.

(The game is published by SouthPeak on the PC, and Nobilis on the PS3. If that weren't confusing enough, Atlus has recently announced it will release the game on Xbox Live Arcade, though that version is said to be several months away.)

Here's a trailer to give you an idea of what Trine is about--or, you know, you could just go download the demo and try it for yourself. For the squeamish among you, we'll be back with a review of the full version soon.

Garnett Lee seems to be having some trouble with it, but if it works I may pick it up. It looks super awesome.

I played the demo for this. It was pretty fun. And the visuals were gorgeous.

Sounds awesome, loved the demo but is it worth 30 bucks?

I really loved the demo, but I'm doubtful about the £19.99 price tag. Apparently there's about 8 hours of gameplay, which makes it decent value, you often don't get that much from a $60/£45 retail game, but money is tight at the moment, and when I can buy Fallout 3's 60+ hours of gameplay for £13.50 from the steam weekend sale, trine looks like terrible value relatively.

Until there's a steam deal cutting off at least 10 bucks this is a no go for me. Don't think its worth a full 30 bucks but i could be wrong.

Looks awesome, but thirty is a little steep at the moment.  Might pick it up on the PSN, though.

While it might not be worth 30$, for me it is definitely not worth 30EUR. I'll wait for a weekend deal on this one, or possibly just pass altogether.

Looks pretty. Might be a blast, but no need to jump the gun seeing how I could get it $10 cheaper. Demo you say..

Fuck yes. Very excited for this.

Looks interesting.
Downloading the demo now.

This is awesome but I am waiting for the console version :)

nice to see PC getting something first for a change. Getting really fucking old always seeing the PC version never getting mentioned or delayed like a year after the release.

Great Game.

Downloading the demo right now.

the demo was excellent but there's no way i can justify getting it at this price. i'm gonna wait until it goes on sale or something.

Looks awesome, just not $30 worth of awesome.

Looks really fantastic.  I'll get it on PSN or for the PC when it hits 20 bucks.

The demo didn't convince me, I thought Icarian (NyxQuest now) was far better. Of course I played the full game on the latter. In the Trine demo I loved the visuals and the story telling but the actual level didn't do it for me. It wasn't really creative, hopefully the later ones are a lot better.

Yeah, the PC version is a bit overpriced at 30€. Perhaps 20€ and I'd bite.

The demo was awesome but i could see this getting old fast.

That's so pirates can download those games and play them on their modded Xbox 360 months before they can download them for the PC and play them there.

Publishers don't really seem to understand, pirates are pirates, if they release it on the 360 first, pirates are just going to mod their 360 and pirate it there instead of on the PC.

I very much liked the demo, but 30euro? That's a bit much for it sadly. I wish it was priced lower so I could support these devs.

I loved the demo and immediately pre-purchased on Steam. I can't wait to get home and play it

Sweet baby Jesus, they actually went ahead and released the PC version without online co-op.  Come on, kids!  Let's all crowd around the monitor and play some Trine!  Yaaay!

i liked the direction of the demo and where it seemed to be headed. $30 sounds steep for a 2D platformer.

Love the look of this. Look forward to the review!

Yikes I want it on pc, but not for 30. Knowing steam, it will be down to 15 in a couple of weeks

Looks like something I'd like, but I'm not sure if it's worth $30. I'll have to try the demo and wait for some reviews.

If it has a level editor and the community keeps building new levels like LittleBigPlanet then it probably will be worth it.

Ahhh, another game straddling the line between a downloadable title and a full retail game.  Maybe it's the collector in me, but it just dosen't feel right spending $30 on a game I can't hold in my hand.

€30 for us Europeans, which is over 40 bucks American. I wasn't really wowed by the demo, actually found the on-the-fly character switching to be somewhat annoying/frustrating. Reminiscent of Lost Vikings but that game had a slightly different method of character switching which I preferred.

So yeah. Not worth €30 to me.

Joining the chorus of "whoa 30 smackers!"

I want it on 360 anyway, so I can co-op with people I actually know. And you know that's gonna cost 1600points/20 bucks.

Thats explains why it didn't come today with the PSN update.

I NEED this game now!
Hurry up PS3 version, I was crying out for you today after I saw the Steam update. ... but alas no luck on the PSN front =(

I played the Demo was awesome and preordered it, glad its out early, now i can play it this weekend with friends on a fat 1080p projector.

Really liked the demo which I played through twice in past few days.  Still not sure whether I should pick this up now or wait for it to be reduced in price at some point.  Love the aesthetic and gameplay though.

Why the hell is there a different publisher for each version of the game.

This is totally not a rip off of Lost Vikings.

looks and sounds neat but kinda expensive for how simple it looks..

and the same price gets you a lot of content with GTA: the Lost and the Damned
