Valve Confirms New Counter-Strike for PC and...Consoles?

He's baaaaaaaack.

Instead of finally announcing Half-Life 3, Valve has confirmed suspicions something was up with the Counter-Strike franchise the studio has left alone for a few years now.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a brand-new installment being developed in conjunction with Hidden Path Entertainment, the developers behind Defense Grid.

It's been 12 years since Counter-Strike first burst onto the scene as a Half-Life mod, but it returns early next year on PC, Mac, Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network (yes, consoles--cue the angry PC crowd!).

If you're at the Penny Arcade Expo later this month, though, you'll get to play it far ahead of release.

Valve hasn't released any screen shots of the game yet, only the logo. The studio said Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will feature "new maps, characters, and weapons," "updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.)," and "new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more."

A downloadable shooter from Valve? Count us in.

This has Battlefield 1943 written all over it, in the best possible way.  I doubt it'll generate a PSN/XBLA following that'll last more than a few months, but I'm always eager for Valve to give me an excuse to indulge another short-lived CS kick.

Sounds cool. Cant say ive ever been a big PC person so I never really got into Counter-Strike though I did have some fun with that xbox version which I guess was crap but meh, I found some enjoyment out of it. Ill be down for some CS on Live Arcade.

It's been a year and a half, maybe two years since I last played. I hated it. I always scoffed at those who kept complaining about CSS as well. Then I bought it back in 2006 and played a couple weeks worth in game time over a couple years. I understand why they complained even after all the gameplay updates. The hit detection is just off and the gunplay just doesn't feel as tight as it is in the original. It's a sad imitation. CS 1.5/1.6 is still the best multiplayer game ever IMHO and I can't even bring myself to play CSS, so something must be wrong with the game. Disappointing to say the least. In CSS if I'm happy it's despite the game and when I'm frustrated it's because of the game mechanics and hit detection. In CS 1.6, I'm happy with myself and feel a sense of actual accomplishment when pulling off something sweet. And when I'm frustrated at the game it's directed at myself or my enemies or bad luck; not at the game itself. That might not sound like a big discrepency, but it completely is the difference between a merely good game and a fantastic game.

Don't forget FEAR 2 one of the worst sequels in the history of gaming they took everything that was good about the first game and got rid of it and dumbed it down times a million such a shame.

Chill Klepek. So long CS:GO PC's Version is done properly for the platform, which we all know it will with Valve, it won't be an issue. Either way, nothing wrong with getting ticked off when a franchise goes multiplat and disregards someone's platform of choice.

The accuracy and precision, or in this case since it's a CSS update the lack thereof, will be just the same as it will always (not) be for CSGO as it is(n't) for CSS on PC. If any of the hitboxes were to change for the consoles it would be the first time that they resized the hitboxes because of consoles.  And I hope for half of those years you haven't been wasting on CSS. That game is garbage compared to the real CS.

No you don't have infinite time to get that accurate because people don't stand around forever, so the time it takes does matter. If you can't hit someone within 2 seconds you can't hit them. OHh and that  TPoppaPuff   dude has never been with in 50 miles of a real game PC to use a mouse because it is obvious like most console noobs he has no fucking clue the game auto aims for him and the games have hit boxes on the characters the size of Fat cows.  

 Most of the Console noobs have only touched a Walmart special PC or the crap netbooks they use to get on the internet and it has a crap intel GPU passed onto the motherboard and they could not a run a game to save there life on it and they pretend the game plays the same it does fucking not period.
 
I have a fucking xbox 360 wii and a ps3 the fucking things are so cheep I can go out and shake a tree and they will fall out like free apples  ( Check my fucking profile I got Xbox 360  achievements   in it!)   I can say what ever the fuck I want about xbox 360 ps3 or the fucking wii I have one I know what it is like, when you get a fucking real pc and play fucking games on it then you console noobs can start acting like you know what it is like until then it's just laughable at what you people say.
 
and using a controller sucks balls and the precision is not fucking there why do you think it sucks so fucking much to move that arrow around on the ps3 web browser with a controller analog stick?  it is not capable of doing it that is fucking why    a fucking mouse has tons more tracking X and Y points than that fucking analog stick.

So watching them pretend act like they know what using a mouse on a real Decent PC is like is fucking hilarious or what a PC game is even fucking like because they never even fucking been near it. 


Even the fucking wii pointer and ps3 move Is better at tracking than the fucking controller analog stick.

You say fuck a lot but I pretty much agree. FPS (like RTS) really shouldn't be on consoles for anymore than casual play. The sheer amount of auto aim needed to make analog sticks usable should make this obvious. If console fps players really want to see how much auto aim is in their games put in a copy of halo 2 and try to aim and kill a teammate.

That's the thing about CS, it's not CoD where you can just point in someone's general direction and hold down fire, it's about precise aiming. Console shooters use aim assist to make up for the last bit of aiming you need to do, but in CS that last bit of aiming is where all the skill lies. Aim assist just makes it pointless. And of course I don't fucking play CSS
           

OHh and that  TPoppaPuff    dude has never been with in 50 miles of a real game PC to use a mouse because it is obvious like most console noobs he has no fucking clue the game auto aims for him and the games have hit boxes on the characters the size of Fat cows.  

   Most of the Console noobs have only touched a Walmart special PC or the crap netbooks they use to get on the internet and it has a crap intel GPU passed onto the motherboard and they could not a run a game to save there life on it and they pretend the game plays the same it does fucking not period.
 
I have a fucking xbox 360 wii and a ps3 the fucking things are so cheep I can go out and shake a tree and they will fall out like free apples  ( Check my fucking profile I got Xbox 360  achievements   in it!)   I can say what ever the fuck I want about xbox 360 ps3 or the fucking wii I have one I know what it is like, when you get a fucking real pc and play fucking games on it then you console noobs can start acting like you know what it is like until then it's just laughable at what you people say.
 
and using a controller sucks balls and the precision is not fucking there why do you think it sucks so fucking much to move that arrow around on the ps3 web browser with a controller analog stick?  it is not capable of doing it that is fucking why    a fucking mouse has tons more tracking X and Y points than that fucking analog stick.

So watching them pretend act like they know what using a mouse on a real Decent PC is like is fucking hilarious or what a PC game is even fucking like because they never even fucking been near it. 


Even the fucking wii pointer and ps3 move Is better at tracking than the fucking controller analog stick.

I specifically stated that if the hitboxes were changed for CSGO it would be the first Valve game to change the size of the hitboxes. Have you ever played a Valve game on console? Of course not, you'd rather be wrong and delusional than honest and open to reality. I have HL2 on three different platforms. The hitboxes are guess what? ALL THE DAMN SAME.  Earth-shattering revelation for you I'm sure considering the way you act. 
 
You don't need to own the consoles to say whatever you want about. You can say whatever you want; it's the internet. You still sound like an idiot though.
 
Go measure your epeen somewhere else and at least learn to know what you're arguing against rather than what you misinterpret because of your deep insecurities when it comes to games. Well there are so many custom maps its not a problem. Revisiting the old maps in the new game I imagine is a good way to ease in to it. Nice ot see them updated too. CS:S has a fairly large number of deafult maps.  I have barely played them in the last 4 years other, always gungame with me.

Please, oh please stop this nonsense. Yes there are some vocal A-holez in PC gaming, and maybe more in the counterstrile crowd. But the constant beating I take as a PC prefered guy is getting old. And it seems that a lot of the complaints these dudes have are valid. They express them poorly, but that shouldn't invalidate the entire platform.
