Valve Confirms New Counter-Strike for PC and...Consoles?

The bomb has been planted.

I played this stupid game almost religiously for 3-4 years. (well, the original beta stuff till right before or around the time they came out with 1.6) but it's been just long enough that I'm actually a tiny bit interested in what this "new" CS is gonna be like.

you sound like some of the people when they announced tf2. why do you think they'd dumb it down, has valve ever done that?

Woah, woah, woah. Hold your horses, pal. Who said there was gonna be user-run servers for the console versions? Was this announced? Because I HIGHLY doubt it. I don't think 360 or PS3 even allow that.

Sounds awesome! I'll be down for some counter-strike on my ps3. Haven't played it since 2002, so I'll interested in seeing what they change and how they make it more modern to fit with today's shooters.

Consoles? It'll be TF2 on Xbox all over again, despite the aforementioned features.

What makes CS is the community cranking out a ton of custom maps and mods (zombie, surf, etc.)

This could be really cool. I like that it is a downloadable game on consoles. Hopefully this will mean a price of 1200 points or 15 bucks.. that would be pretty nice. Also, I would like it if they tried to make this a little more approachable to ordinary players. 
Say what you will, but CS on a server with super-skilled hyper pc guys isn´t a lot of fun, since you wait a lot to respawn. A lot.

Looks like this might be the game to get me really into Counter-Strike.

Last time I seriously played Counter Strike was the time Internet cafes were popular, and having Internet at home was a rare privilege because it was expensive. About the time 1.6 started rolling out, Internet became kind of affordable, and neither me not my friends stayed playing CS because it just wasn't the same.

Source engine, though I don't know if they've made any new enhancements since Orange Box.

For every Valve announcement that doesn't pertain to Half-Life, I die little inside.

CS and CSS are still two of the most played games in existence. http://store.steampowered.com/stats/ Nothing has ever surpassed them (in that style).

Source is a completely modular engine. Valve will likely not give up on it for an extremely long time. The Portal 2 version of Source is a vast improvement over the Orange box version (2007) which itself was a large upgrade over the HL2 version. Valve can keep updating Source to stay competitive, unlike other engines like Unreal. If they used numbers, we would likely be on Source 3 or 4 by now.

No interest in counter strike, i need more in a competitive shooter than running around a closed area killing other players

Yeah, quite a few, actually. Since the release of The Orange Box, we've had Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2 and Portal 2, all of which look considerably better than HL2 "vanilla". Just compare Portal and Portal 2. The difference is mind-blowing. The Source engine is incredible.

Regarding CS:GO... well, I don't think it's meant to be a replacement of CS:Source as this was for CS 1.6. It's obviously geared towards the console market (which in itself is no a bad thing, since we already have CS:S on PC), so it doesn't really peak my curiosity. I'm fine playing CS:S for the moment.

Also, HL3 please.

Not sure why the need for the console versus PC trolling in the title. Almost every Valve game has been released for consoles, including Counter Strike back on the original Xbox.

That's rather odd. I presumed the next Counter-Strike would come when they released their next engine and their next Half-Life, just like HL2/CS:S.

Hope the console versions don't get abandoned like the TF2 variants! IIRC On 360 it was never updated because MS didn't allow free feature updates?

Oh that was terrible. I don't know who was responsible for that, but I hope they aren't allowed near games again.

Every time I read a story on a new Valve game I have an internal thought process along these lines: "Is it Episode Three?" Nope. "FUUUUUUCK." 
 
On a more related note, the last time I played Counter-Strike the other people on the server called me a 'fucking noob' because they had snipers watching every way out of the spawn that kept killing me. I did not enjoy it.

O fuck yea, CS was one of if not my first experiences in online gaming. Fond memories of those 5AM nights.

I'm excited as a classic cs player, i've always wanted a new cs to change up the game since source was just a graphics update.

I would love to see people try and play counter-strike on a console. Seeing people try to control the recoil with a gamepad would be so funny.

Makes perfect sense to bring it to consoles. Modern shooters are so popular these days they would basically be burning money if they didn't.

Personally I couldn't care less about Counter Strike, though.

As long as it has surf maps I'll be happy.

Could totally play some more Counter Strike again.
