Valve Decided to Approve That Divekick Game

And something called Deadly Premonition, too.

No Caption Provided

In the latest string of Greenlight approvals for Steam, Valve accepted fan favorites Divekick, Deadly Premonition, and a slew of others.

The complete list is as follows:

Valve covered a wide range of games here, from crowd-backed prospects (Among the Sleep, A Hat in Time), to already released games seeking a bigger home (Rekoil, Operation Black Mesa), to the types of games one wouldn't ordinarily think needed to go down this road (Deadly Premonition).

In case you missed it, Divekick now has a release date, too: August 20. That’s for the $10 version on PlayStation 3 and Vita, which comes with the always welcomed Cross Buy support. I wouldn’t be surprised if the PC version joined that date, too. I could track Dave Lang down in Chicago and ask him? Nah.

I'm sorry guys, but Deadly Premonition is a garbage game. I watched the Endurance Run because of the GB crew - their commentary.

Your opinions are wrong and morally abhorrent. Be ashamed.

In other news, looks like I'm buying two copies of Divekick.

Definitely excited to own the Director's Cut on PC. Also can't wait to see what the modding community will do for this game.

C'mon man, don't suck such a dick.

Anyway, I don't get this Greenlight thing. Why is it such a big deal to get a game published on Steam? Shouldn't be such a hassle for a completed game to be on steam.

Cause they don't want total trash on their service. The idea is to let the community figure out what they want. That said a game like divekick shouldn't have been held out for this long.

as I've already sold my PS3 & 360 to be a full-time PC gamer, Deadly Premonition coming to Steam sounds great. I've been dying to actually play it (and not just watch).

Also good for that Dave Lang dude, even though he's an asshole. <jk>

If I remember correctly, then the PC version is real close if not day and date if they got Greenlit by the end of July.

Basically it's now going to be Ramon's nightmare to get that version finished before 20th :D

Broforce is so damn good. I'd recommend going to their site and playing the flash prototype. It's one of the best action platformers that I've played in recent memory.

@aquacadet: Why? Divekick doesn't deserve special treatment. It got in once it got the votes.

I'm not surprised, but I'm so goddamn glad A Hat in Time made it through Greenlight. That style of game seems all but extinct these days even on Nintendo consoles.

And, of course, I'm super pumped for Divekick. I really like fighting games and the way it distills the entire genre down to it's very core is fascinating to me. I think it's a deceptively brilliant video game that might fly under the radar of a lot of people, but whatever, looks crazy fun to play.

Oh that's their reason, for not letting quality titles onto the service, while letting shit like that recent biker game in? Ha ! Ha ! That's the stupidest thing I ever heard.

Huh, that Chasm game looks interesting. I wouldn't mind a new Metroid-style game.

Edit: Goddamn, and it's Kickstarter's already over with barely any of the stretch goals reached. :( You disappoint me, internet.

If they can clean up Deadly Premonition, I might actually pick it up. Last I heard, Director's Cut was a MESS (and not in the charming way, in the hideous framerate/game-stopping glitches way)

If the publisher of Deadly Premonition never published a game on Steam before, I don't know why they'd deserve any special treatment.

Can you feel the storm? DIVEKICK!

It also amazes me that Deadly Premonition appear about a month ago on Greenlight and has already been greenlit. It goes to show how absurd that system is.

@phrosnite: It totally is an underbudget crap game engine, but like a B movie, or the TV series that it owes so much to, that doesn't make it less fun. It's a modern cult classic. If it was anything but what it is, without charm or character, nobody would care. But it now has two progressively improved re-releases, and that just doesn't happen to actual garbage.

@buckybit: Bicycle riding confirmed!!! :D

Yep, if that's what steam is trying to do they're too late. They totally blew their credibility to let War Z be sold for money, then when the shit storm came down, let them change the name and keep selling it.

I don't like greenlight. Democracy just doesn't work.

Wait, Infestation is just War Z under a different name? Holy shit, how were they able to get away with that?

Should be clarified that The War Z wasn't voted through Greenlight, it could be released apparently even without any certification process because the publisher already had a game on Steam (I think it was War Inc., but I don't exactly remember, when they republished War Z as Infestation: Survivor Stories they changed the name of the developer and publisher companies).

The weird thing now is that it seems like some developers that already have games on Steam need to go through Greenlight to get released, which doesn't quite make sense either.

The Deadly Premonition thing has never made sense. It's a major title previously released on 2 major platforms with proven sales and a fanbase. If any game should not need to go through Greenlight it's a game like this.
