Valve Reveals First Greenlight Games Moving to Steam

Valve has announced the first set of games submitted through Valve’s Greenlight service on Steam that will move onto the next step, and eventually be released through the service proper.

Here’s the list:

• Black Mesa
• Cry of Fear
• Dream
• Heroes & Generals
• Kenshi
• McPixel
• No More Room in Hell
• Project Zomboid
• Routine
• Towns

As many of these games are not yet done, they will obviously not be launching simultaneously.

"The Steam community rallied around these titles and made them the clear choice for the first set of titles to launch out of Greenlight," said Anna Sweet, who works in business development at Valve, in this afternoon's press release. "Since launch, hundreds of titles have been submitted, with more coming in every day. We expect to be announcing more titles coming to Steam via Greenlight soon."

The company has come under scrutiny recently for a $100 requirement to submit games to Greenlight, albeit the $100 goes to Penny Arcade’s Child’s Play charity. Developers weighed in for a piece last week on Giant Bomb, and the conversation continues, as these games move forward, and they earn a potentially lucrative spot on Steam.

@Totoni: That's because they don't have to reach the maximum, the percentages are mainly a way to gauge community interest, which will prompt Valve to take a peek at the games.

Yay. Great selection there. So awesome that Valve is behind Black Mesa Source Mod. Even they cant officillay support it they support it- you know- and thats pretty cool. 
 
Also interested to check out Project Zomboid. I like that games concept.

Wait, Project Zomboid is still alive (ohoho...)? I thought they stopped developing it after the dev's computer got stolen.

It is more about how the threshold doesn't really matter. The progress bar was never an indication of the succes/failure of a game on green light, I am pretty sure it even states that in the FAQ for it.

We're going to be reaching out to developers as we see their games getting traction regardless of whether they have achieved a specific number of votes or are sitting 1st or 2nd place at any given time. We are most interested in finding the games that people want, not requiring them to always hit a specific number of votes.

Can't wait to play Cry of Fear.

For all people confused, you never actually had to get to 100% for the voting, it was there just to show how many supporters for that game. And since these games had the highest support (Votes) they were accepted.

People please read the WHOLE FAQ for Greenlight.

It will be interesting to see if the extra exposure on steam will be able to make up for the upfront cost and cut that valve will take out of sales. I don't know if I'm so psyched about this whole concept, the more we rely on steam to supply us with games, the bigger the impact its single point of failure is going to have on us.

Black Mesa? I've only been waiting for that to come out for the last 3 years or so. I may need clean underwear after this announcement.

Well shit.

Huge props to Valve for supporting Black Mesa rather than shutting it down like so many other companies. Not only are they supporting it, but they're now going to be hosting it on their own service! So cool.

Cry of Fear and Project Zombid definitely interest me the most.

I hope Octodad get's added next.

Does this mean i could just buy Black Mesa as a stand alone thing? I really don't feel like installing Half-life 2 again.

La-Mulana is a known quantity, as GB did a quick-look of it previously.

Too bad Real Texas didn't make it on this list as it can go out to steam pretty much now unless they are planning some tweaks to it for more bonus content with the steam version.

There is no real threshold. They just go for what seems appropriate. It's also relative.

Nice to see Towns on that list.

I'm glad that Kenshi made it, it looks like good janky fun.
