Wal-Mart Clears Way for Highway To Hell

An AC/DC track pack is confirmed for Rock Band...exclusively at Wal-Mart?

Not too long ago, there was this little rumor about an AC/DC expansion coming for Rock Band 2. As everyone knows: believe everything you read on the internet, because it's apparently all true!

An official Harmonix press release, signed in blood and kissed by the rock gods, states that AC/DC will be coming exclusively to Rock Band this November. Dubbed AC/DC LIVE: Rock Band Track Pack by the release, the pack will contain songs from "AC/DC's Live at Donnington."
F'ING RAWK! We salute you Cap'n.
F'ING RAWK! We salute you Cap'n.

Before I list out the tracks, and it's a pretty damn good list, there's more news! According to an interview with the NY Times, the pack won't be available for download, but will rather be sold exclusively through Wal-Mart, Sam's Club and walmart.com. Personally, the link between Wal-Mart and AC/DC begins and ends with them both having punctuated names, but who am I? At least Sam's Club has like 800lb boxes of Capt'n Crunch, and that's pretty RAWK. According to Columbia Records chairman Steve Barnett: “If you want to be a physical band, you better make an alliance with a strong physical retailer...” Oh yeah Mr. THE MAN? I bet AC/DC is older than you...I'm just saying. As for Europe, Australia and New Zealand, apparently the pack will be available at "most major retailers" in early December.

So here's the skinny on those tracks:

  • "Thunderstruck"
  • "Shoot to Thrill"
  • "Back in Black"
  • "Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be"
  • "Heatseeker"
  • "Fire Your Guns"
  • "Jailbreak"
  • "The Jack"
  • "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap"
  • "Moneytalks"
  • "Hells Bells"
  • "High Voltage"
  • "Whole Lotta Rosie"
  • "You Shook Me All Night Long"
  • "T.N.T."
  • "Let There Be Rock”
  • "Highway To Hell”
  • "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)”

Actually, this does look Wal-Mart-ish...
Actually, this does look Wal-Mart-ish...
The official word is that Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners will also get a code with the game that will let them copy the songs to their console, a la the original Rock Band content, so the disc won't be required to play. Yay!

According to the press release, the US prices and dates break out like this:
  • $39.88 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on 11/02/08
  • $39.88 for the Wii on 11/16/08
  • $29.88 for the PlayStation 2 on 11/02/08

So there you go. If you want it reasonably priced, you'll have to do the dirty deed and grab a physical copy at the local Wal-Mart. Considering most Rock Band DLC goes for about $2 a track, $40 for 18 songs seems pretty ballpark. Factor in that it's also a full game and you're ready to rock...just like Wal-Mart!

How is this at all $40 for a CD? You realize that you're PLAYING the songs, right?

Nice list of songs. Considering that the RHCP DLC was $20 for 17 songs, $40 because it's AC/DC is a bit rash. Just my opinion. They should just allow 360/PS3 users to download the songs through the shop considering you have the option to transfer the songs anyway.

I probably wouldn't buy it normally, but all those songs are awesome!

Back in Black, Highway to Hell, TNT, Shook me All Night Long? Thunderstruck?

Those ARE the Songs you'd wanna get so, I might drop some cash for it.

I don't like AC/DC enough to spend that much money or leave the house.

I haven't read about this being from the Donnington album anywhere but on Giant Bomb, except that one early leak. None of the newly released info mentions it.

Uh why is "Let There Be Rock" on this track list? Do we really need the Live at Donnington version plus the one already on RB2?

Would be more enticing if they throw in a full copy of their soon to be released Black Ice CD along with the 40 dollars too

Wal-mart exlusive? As far as i know there are no wal-marts in Europe, at least not up here in Norway. So how are we supposed to get our hands on this ACDC awsomeness? Will the ACDC "expansion" be compatible with the european version of rock band? So is it possible to import it? man, i want some ACDC too

It's also supposed to be a full stand-alone game, which may be one of the reasons it costs so much more than your typical album release on Rock Band.  Of course, part of the higher price tag is also likely the extra expense of disc creation, packaging, shipping, etc...

And Ryan, Captain Crunch is awesome.  Especially 800 lbs of it.

I hope AC/DC will do albums for DLC, that would be very awesome. I guess having Black Ice on rock band(2) would be some good advertising. Unless it got better quality than the real album that is.

$40 is too much, being a Wal-Mart exclusive is retarded, but the song list is everything we could ever want. :D

This blows.  I love AC/DC, but my nearest Wal-Mart is literally an hour away.

Oh, and Wal-Mart is evil.  Is there any reason outside of marketing that these aren't going to be available on XBLM?

The price seems excessive.  But I'm an AC/DC fan, so I'll be picking it up.  Even though I hate going to my nearby Wal-marts.  Yes, i said Wal-martS.  There are 3 within 10 miles of where I live.

To whoever thinks they'll be able to rent or borrow the disc and rip the songs, you're outta luck.  The song export requires a one-time only code, much like the code printed on the RB2 manual for the 20 free DLC songs coming for that game.  So unless you get real lucky, and find a code that nobody's used yet, the only way you'll be exporting these songs is to buy your own.

I was absolutely set on this...until I saw the price tag.

So disappointing, because I have always said that the only cd I would ever buy in full on rockband is back in black.

I guess I'll just wait quietly here for a price drop.

So I can buy the disk download the songs and turn around and sell it to GameStop, Ebay or a pawn shop?  Probably get about half my money back.  So were talking about $20 for all those songs, suddenly that doesn't seem such a bad deal.

My REAL question is why is Ms. Jay your splash picture for this article on the homepage?!? Come on guys, I can't think of any excuse for you all to be watching ANTM.  :P

So if you're a Wii owner, you get to pay next-gen prices, but don't have to worry about the next-gen feature of exporting the songs. What a deal!

It's too bad ACDC is balls. I will go ahead and pre-emptively mourn the vocal cords of anyone who attempts to accurately duplicate the shrieking of ACDC's two frontmen. How about some good music for download/purchase instead?
