Warhammer 40K Dawn Of War II's Last Stand DLC Revealed

More strategizin' is on the way for Relic's sci-fi RTS in October.

Relic has taken the wraps off the new downloadable add-on for Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War II. It's called The Last Stand, and it's out in October. Since I am woefully behind on games and DOWII is still sitting unplayed in my Steam account, I'm going to let the press release do the talking for me here.

The Last Stand is a cooperative survival mode that gives gamers control of an individual hero unit and drops a small multiplayer team into a battle with impossible odds.  Players can choose between a Space Marine Captain, Eldar Farseer or Ork Mekboy and will team up with two other squad-mates in an attempt to hold out as long as possible against wave after wave of relentless attackers.  Hero units level up and are fully customizable as new armor and weapons become available from game to game.  Working together to devise innovative strategies is the key to success in this brand-new battle mode.

The Last Stand download also contains two new multiplayer maps, balance updates and bug fixes for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II.

Here's a cinematic trailer and the first screenshots for the DLC, which doesn't seem to have a price listed just yet. (EDIT: Because it's FREE. My mistake. Propers, Relic!)

How does this stuff strike you? Ready to dust your copy of the game off now, or have you been playing it all this time? I still hope I can try it someday Brad Shoemaker on Google+

Man.  That actually looks pretty fun.

The best missions in the game are the ones where you are constantly on the back foot, and fighting all the way.  And those are the best online matches.

So this could go well.

Also, this is sweet cuyz I suck at the actual game co-op is always fun!

Im a big fan of Dawn of War II and its MP as its the most accessible. However I always preferred to play as a team, as with me being a fan of Co-Op I find this update to be very neat.

It also gives me a reason to start playing it more often :)  I just wonder whether were stuck with those three heroes.

I ALSO FIND THE FACT THAT THEY ARE SHOWING MORE IMPERIAL GUARD TO BE QUITE EPIC!

I play the game a lot. I can't wait for this dlc. Probably this is done with the game engine, it's not CGI. The game is awesome!

Awesome! Hope you can choose units from all three factions and not just heroes. Either way I'll get it

This DLC is free, and should be good fun for all the people too casual to play this game online versus. I've been playing this quite a bit since the last patch that was a major improvement to the balance.

So kinda DotA Warhammer style?  Meh, as long as there's still blood.

So Horde made it to RTS!?

Such a simple game mode is now becoming quite the necessity.

Free is GREAT! I never played the multiplayer portion of DOW2 (aside from bots) but I really enjoyed the main game. I don't have any DOW2 playing buddies though so I don't think I'll end up getting to enjoy this.

The WH40K 3rd person action game Space Marine looks pretty interesting though. I'd like to see Relic blend the two genres and call the game Blood Raven Squad.

sounds like the stuff they did for company of heroes ToV.........where the hell is my RUSSIAN FACTION!!!

This is how DLC should be, free like normal patches! Luv you Relic!

Looks pretty awesome. I haven't played online much since the big 'ol patch, maybe I should get back into it.

Remember when things were free, you know before all of those fancy consoles, ummm yeaaa..

Why is PC gaming so great? Because DLC content is FREE! Awesome.

I'm happy!

I haven't stopped playing DOW2. This just makes me want to play even more than I already do.

I have been playing a fair amout of the multiplayer since it came out and this looks like it will be great to play with some of my mates who also have the game

If it was single player DLC, I would be a lot more excited. But doesn't every game nowadays seem to have a co-op survival mode? Maybe it's just because I've been seeing so much about Halo 3: ODST's Firefight mode but these modes seem to be becoming a continuing trend in games.

Nice!  I just loaded up Steam again after rebuilding my PC and remembered I still have this.  Need to get around to actually finishing the campaign, and this is a good excuse to do just that!
