Welcome to AnimeVice!

The technical minds behind Giant Bomb have a new toy for you to play with.

I can't tell you what's going on in this picture, but I can tell you that I think it's ALL GOOD.
You may have heard us talk about this on this week's podcast, but this is not a drill. There is no escape. We are all doomed. Why?

Because AnimeVice lives!

Much like Giant Bomb was ComicVine for games, AnimeVice is Giant Bomb for anime and manga. As soon as you get over there and create an account, you'll certainly recognize a lot of the same underlying technology that makes us the world's most blazingest video game database on the planet. Earth, I mean. Planet Earth.

You'll also find a few things that you don't currently see on Giant Bomb. Stuff like...

  • A dedicated cosplay section full of images that I find simultaneously fascinating and creepy!
  • An intelligent way to handle multiple series of anime and manga that belong in the same franchise!
  • News and information from Gia! She's an expert on this stuff!
  • A character battle section that lets you determine which characters are the best and strongest in the universe!

I'm especially into the character battles. You'll be seeing some of this stuff over on our side next year.

And, naturally, all of it is totally editable, so whether you've got a lot of stored-up anime knowledge, or if, like me, you only feel comfortable adding images to the Heihachi Mishima character page, there's plenty of places for you to make a mark.

Check it out now! It's a website... about anime!

You know, I'll just let Gia and Maxwell explain it...

Ehh. Anime. *shudders*

Cool.  I'm shy with anime because I know I could get into it way more than is healthy.  I had this Sailor Moon phase I'm pretty sure my family didn't know what to make of it.  Hell I didn't know what to make of it.  Sailor Jupiter is hot... but she's in junior high... but she's really some planetary soldier... well I guess its ok in Japan... so... um.

Say... May we have Comic Vine, Giant Bomb, and Anime Vice all have links to each other on the front page?

append: checked it out and its comfortably familiar.  Made me realized I know nothing about anime.  I could blaze through GB's trivia but AV's have me scratching my head that it actually even exists.  Guess I'm a gamer geek only.  maybe the site could help me get learned though.

Finally, a place to unload my cosplay collection.

Posted by Harts

Just checked it out and it looks nice:)

Legend of Galatic Heroes boring? How dare he?!

Posted by elektrixx

Thanks for that cosplay link. That's all I need.

Time to get my geek on!   lol

anime is for jerks.

Are those cosplay Heihachi images?
And it seems that Giant Bomb should have been named something that fills in GameVi_e.

Oooh, maybe GameVibe!

Posted by Rorschach

SnakeSnakeSnakeVibe?

Posted by Clockswork

Pretty nice :)

Thanks, but no thanks. I'll keep an eye on that cosplay page... for... uh... historical research... and science... yeah!

The community is shaping up fantastically with a blend of familiar faces and some new ones.

For anime fans here on GiantBomb, you'll fit right in :)

Posted by Pathos

Ooh, I wonder if AV is going to have its own podcast?!

Posted by McBradders

That site is not even CLOSE to being worksafe... totally needs a disclaimer :3

Posted by asian_pride

Nice. Games are fun. Ah, what the hell lol

Cos playing is just weird imo

Edited by ahoodedfigure

I don't know a whole lot... All "anime and manga" means is any animation or comic work that happens to come from Japan?  Lessee...  Cowboy Bebop, Appleseed, anything by Katsuhiro Otomo, anything by Hayao Miyazaki, Big O, Tank Police, Hi Me My Strawberry Eggs, Lupin III, Macross...  I think I'm running out already.  I would probably have to have more than that to even rate there :P

So basically, Giant Bomb is the parent site of AnimeVice? Giant Bomb continues to roll in the dough!

"It's an anime website...about anime! You can go there to find out about things in anime like tentacles!"

Must resist temptation...

Congrats on the site launch guys!  Now you have even more work to do!

To everyone who goes over there...the MB at AnimeVice isn't me...for now.  Yes, I know who the troll is that thinks they're being cute.  Submit your guesses via PM!

Hmmm...not for me.

But I know a bunch that would love this place.

Haha i can almost imagine Jeff found some of the things he said painful to write. The site is mezmorising! but, im a little worried of the future.

Posted by BoG

Agreed, Jeff.

IT'S ALL GOOD.
Posted by Meltbrain

Ehhhhhh, really not a big fan of Anime. Jeff said it best, "Anime is for jerks!".

I really don't like anime, not only because of the sheer weirdness of the entire medium but also because people who are into anime that I know in real life are really weird. (I have an anime club at my school. It's scary. They spend their time watching fansubs and drawing girls with large breasts).

Eh, I don't need another anime site to go to. My power level is getting too high as it is.

Using the GiantBomb framework = WIN
Calling LoGH boring = FAIL

Nice site. But I have a problem already :( yeah sorry to be the guy who complains.

Since it's a sister site of GiantBomb and ComicVine how come I have to have 3 logins for each (have to sign up for each etc)

Why doesn't someone on the team of GB or Whiskey Media get on the job of making it so one username works for all sites and when you sign up for 1 account you get access to all sites.

That way username confusion etc won't arise in the future.

Just a thought. Still a great site....Didn't know Gia looked like that :O I used to listen to her on Japanator

I keep reading that as AnimalVice, which is a totally different topic...

Don't be harsh gents (and ladies?).

I go to a local anime convention every year, plus an interstate one a couple of years back.  I have to say that in general, they were the most fun I have had in a long time.  Perhaps that says more about me than then :(

The whole cosplay thing is the most fun thing about it.  People put a lot of effort into getting it right and just having fun with it.  Plus, there is always a big room of televisions an consoles with heaps of games to indulge in.

If you don't get anime, then you are a sad individual (or maybe I am, I love sci-fi as well).

My personal anime dvd collection is vast.  It is healthier than porn right?  My children have a significant collection of manga to go with it.  My eldest daughter is an extremely good anime artist.

Gia, update your blog fool.

Yeah, I think logins should definitely carry over from site to site. It would make the whole community a lot easier to manage. Of course, I actually got the login name that I wanted over at AnimeVice, but it's going to be confusing for awhile trying to remember that different username when the sites look so similar.

I really like the mix of features from Comic Vine and Giant Bomb.

But where's the "Real Name" field? Lame!

Posted by MilkmanDan

Meh. I'll stick to /m/ and /a/.

What's so wrong with that? They've created an awesome platform that works so they're re-using it.

Do you know how many wikis are out there that use the MediaWiki platform (y'know, the one Wikipedia uses)? A lot.
