The technical minds behind Giant Bomb have a new toy for you to play with.

I can't tell you what's going on in this picture, but I can tell you that I think it's ALL GOOD.

You may have heard us talk about this on this week's podcast, but this is not a drill. There is no escape. We are all doomed. Why?

Because AnimeVice lives!

Much like Giant Bomb was ComicVine for games, AnimeVice is Giant Bomb for anime and manga. As soon as you get over there and create an account, you'll certainly recognize a lot of the same underlying technology that makes us the world's most blazingest video game database on the planet. Earth, I mean. Planet Earth.

You'll also find a few things that you don't currently see on Giant Bomb. Stuff like...

  • A dedicated cosplay section full of images that I find simultaneously fascinating and creepy!
  • An intelligent way to handle multiple series of anime and manga that belong in the same franchise!
  • News and information from Gia! She's an expert on this stuff!
  • A character battle section that lets you determine which characters are the best and strongest in the universe!

I'm especially into the character battles. You'll be seeing some of this stuff over on our side next year.

And, naturally, all of it is totally editable, so whether you've got a lot of stored-up anime knowledge, or if, like me, you only feel comfortable adding images to the Heihachi Mishima character page, there's plenty of places for you to make a mark.

Never got amine... even as a kid I never liked any of it other than pokemon. Everyone else was into Dragon Ball Z and stuff.

But now, thanks to Giantbomb.com, I know that at super saiyan 4 you turn into a monkey! ...whatever that means.

Ok its not just about liking anime... Its about being a fan of a certain media.  Why I say western culture is divided is because yes, as proven by this thread gamers may exclusively be only gamer geeks, as myself am.  As far as I know in Jap culture they take any manga/game/anime into the same fold of fandom and way of life.  It is seperated there as well, but still there is some unification that a fan of any one of those is part of a type of soul the same no matter what the preferred medium.

OMG!! Video game dorkness is the same with anime dorkness. I myself is not into anime as many are, but you know of that term "otaku"?  That term does not just mean anime dork, but all dorks, nerds, and geeks in general.  Is just a Japanese term used to define a class of people, that in western culture is somehow spread out and devided.  By Jap definition we are all otakus, and you guys are condeming others for being a fan of something that's nearly the same in its devotion.  At least in Japan they don't fight over what type of geek they are... they just know they are geeks and kind of unite on that fact.

giant bomb is just like comicvine, therefore animevice is just like giant bomb. no reason to look harder.

Look harder. There are a good number of differences. It's like Comic Vine mixed with Giant Bomb, with some extra features that make it even more awesome.

i agree completely. 
they are always wierd. i knew a few kids in high school that were in two it, they were basically in a group seperate from dorks, nerds, jocks, or anything else, they were simply the weird group of kids, bad teeth greesy hair, crappy clothes, and rode bicycles to school (fuckin high school dudes....bicycles?!)l LOL  (even though i went to an all boy school and we never cared to place people into groups like you see on tv and shit, so maybe they were like the only noticeable group in the school LOL). and theyre myspace's should be labeled with a 56k warning because its LOADED with stupid super stylized anime chics in school girl outfits and huge tits.

Identical to Giant Bomb. GB at least has some differences to Comic Vine. But whatever. I agree that it would be cool to have a universal login for all three sites.

the only anime i ever watch thoroughly (besides all the classic movies like Akira and Ghost...etc etc etc.) i watched dragonball z like an addict as a kid, um i think the first and maybe second season of Gundam. hmm what else, oh Cowboy Bebop, like an addict i even own that movie on dvd! lol and uh this show called uh....i always forget the name it had like only 13 episodes, took place in space, with this dude who had this bad ass gun and some cat alien friend and a cool ship with some chic who was like a part of the ship. i dunno. 

but thats it. 
i never got into like these anime fanboys do, and i can't even imagine liking it enough to join that site and even browse it one day. maybe just once to find the name of that show and thats about it dude. 
i doubt they care a whole lot about that new batman gotham knight dvd i just bought, as well as the animatrix dvd i bought a while back. they're all into that weird shit that makes them feel like theyre a part of something exclusive when theyre really not...at all.

What's so wrong with that? They've created an awesome platform that works so they're re-using it.

Do you know how many wikis are out there that use the MediaWiki platform (y'know, the one Wikipedia uses)? A lot.

Yeah, I think logins should definitely carry over from site to site. It would make the whole community a lot easier to manage. Of course, I actually got the login name that I wanted over at AnimeVice, but it's going to be confusing for awhile trying to remember that different username when the sites look so similar.

Don't be harsh gents (and ladies?).

I go to a local anime convention every year, plus an interstate one a couple of years back.  I have to say that in general, they were the most fun I have had in a long time.  Perhaps that says more about me than then :(

The whole cosplay thing is the most fun thing about it.  People put a lot of effort into getting it right and just having fun with it.  Plus, there is always a big room of televisions an consoles with heaps of games to indulge in.

If you don't get anime, then you are a sad individual (or maybe I am, I love sci-fi as well).

My personal anime dvd collection is vast.  It is healthier than porn right?  My children have a significant collection of manga to go with it.  My eldest daughter is an extremely good anime artist.

Nice site. But I have a problem already :( yeah sorry to be the guy who complains.

Since it's a sister site of GiantBomb and ComicVine how come I have to have 3 logins for each (have to sign up for each etc)

Why doesn't someone on the team of GB or Whiskey Media get on the job of making it so one username works for all sites and when you sign up for 1 account you get access to all sites.

That way username confusion etc won't arise in the future.

Just a thought. Still a great site....Didn't know Gia looked like that :O I used to listen to her on Japanator
