Not screwed at all, at least not all of us. Some of us don't buy Steam games.

But we could already do this through mobile browsers. I've bought Steam Christmas sale games via my iPhone while traveling with family.

A custom app may be prettier, but doesn't add new functionality related to the purchase of games.

It's in closed BETA atm and only allowed for people who have been invited.

You certainly can, but having an app instead of using the browser is a far more user-friendly and slick way to access the store. And the easier to use the app is, the easier it is for me to spend money. Also iPhones don't have Flash, so sometimes things go awry when looking at websites like Steampowered.com.

I got a Steam sale in my pocket...

The only thing Steam has yet to do is make it easier to actually become a pc gamer. Seen failed attempts from things like Games for Windows and Dell... and cause steams a store, they could never sponsor GameStop to carry graphics cards. It'd just be great if steam could sell prebuilt machines or recommend builds whose parts are extremely compatible with decent driver support.

once cell phones have terabyte hard drives maybe valve will let us install some of those games on our phone.

Valve's iOS requirements are far too high.

Neat, but unless this is going to involve the ability to purchase games FOR my phone (which seems unlikely since phones already do that) I doubt I'll ever use this.
