Why Do They Call It SimCity Creator?

Because they can't call it Sid Meier's SimCity.

Your sims rejoice!
Your sims rejoice!
After seeing SimCity Creator in action on the DS, I'm not entirely clear what that title is supposed to mean. I think “SimCity Civilization” would make more sense, though I could see some copyright issues, and the ensuing knife fight between Will Wright and Sid Meier, preventing that. (As an aside, who do you think would win that knife fight? Discuss!) Still, confusing title choices aside, this seems like an interesting direction for the franchise.

The gist of SimCity Creator isn't too different from past SimCity games, and I'm told that the general level of complexity is about on par with SimCity 3000. The twist is that you'll play through a series of different ages, starting with the stone age and ending with the nuclear age. Since cavemen have a hard time with stuff like fire, it's unsurprising that your build options will be limited to residential areas and roadways at this point. You'll need to meet age-specific milestones in areas like approval rating and population before you're given the option to advance to the next age, at which point the look of your city will change, and you'll be given access to new technologies. As such, the game becomes more and more complicated as you progress from one age to the next.

SimCity Creator is being developed by the same Japanese team behind last year's SimCity DS, and graphically, it looks roughly the same, though your advisor has taken on the look of a character from MySims. While the changes being made to the SimCity formula are interesting, I came away feeling like it would make more sense as a single mode in a larger SimCity game. If you're hankering for a new portable SimCity experience, though, this looks like it will probably fit the bill.

Sounds pretty interesting. I need a reason to get back on the DS. Not sure this is it, but it's got some promise.

Oh, and Will Wright to win the knife fight!

Will Wright is an extremely technical knife fighter, but all that genius is devoted to everything surrounding the knife fight. The velocity of the "shiv", the light refracted in blood, the evolutionary process of cuttin' fools. All the stuff at the periphery looks amazing, but its hard to know whether Double Dubba OOH has what it takes in he ring.
Sid Meier, however, is straight up TACTICS. He's gonna kill you in a knife fight, because he's fortified and he's been putting time into the conquest tree and his Trebuchet is position a square away, in case the battle turns nasty. Always bring a catapult to a knife fight, that's what Sid Meier says.

Sid Meier stands smiing, looking content and strangely happy. Will Wright  contemplates his first move, while still contemplating he thinks of another move. Sid Meier stands, Will Wright contemplates and then they strike. Will Wright wins but is never the same, he finishes his career making third party casual games for the Wii.

In a knife fight between Wright and Meier, Wright would look at his knife for a while, contemplating every use he could possibly imagine for that particular instrument.  Meanwhile, Meier would have advanced all the way to modern technology and amassed a large batallion of tanks.  Wright would then gather his Sim spearmen (ordering them in Simlish, obviously) and completely defeat Meier's tanks, because everyone knows tanks don't stand a chance against spear-weilding idiots.

I completely don't care about this game...never really got that interested in SimCity games.  Civilization games, on the other hand...well, those games are just plain cool.

@MattBodega:  That just made my day, if not the entire week :D

Will Wright would just build a robot to fight for him. Think MacGyver. Will Wright wins.

Due to Sid Meier's experience with swashbuckling (behind two Pirate-themed games) I think he'd win in a fight involving blades. He also makes far superior games. Sims= meh

I'll wait and see what reviews are, since I'm iffy about this one. I think it looks ok, but the Sim City DS was really disappointing. But I do want Civilization Revolution on DS, that looks sweet.

I like Civ and Sim City...but the two of them together just sounds icky.

And Sid Meiers is a man with an agenda, he would never lose to Will Wright. Then again, Will is a genius...hmm

Initially I would have said, that Will Wright wins. But then MattBodega opened my eyes. Thumps up, mate!

If the game would have been named "Sim City:Civ" I would have already pre-ordered it, just because it contains two franchises I care about. So far we have to wait and see ...this could be interessting.

I fairly enjoyed SimCity DS but I had to throw in the towel quicker then I would have liked. It had too many stupidly dumbed down aspects to it. The child-like mini-games and cutesy visuals took away from any kind of underlying strategy.

Saying that it looks like Creator isn't going to change that.

Does anyone have a pic of Meier?  I'm predisposed to back Will Wright in just about any street brawl, so I need a better idea of Meier's girth.

Will Wright would win, he'd come up with a new inventive way to use that knife and then give Meier a few insightful lectures as he dies

Waiting for the next real Sim City sequel here. And yup Will Wright beats Sid Meirer, and the synopsis while good is wrong. Sid would evalve to tanks just to have not only all his city destroyed but his entire world by a UFO armed with Death Star calibur weapontry.

Cavemen built roads? Hmm, this is either going to be a long-needed revamp, or a travesty. Without meaning to make assumptions, let's just say that I've got my pitchfork ready.

Technically all that will wright would have to do would be dodge Sid's first attack.  Due to his turn ending, Will would have an infinite amount of time to think of the most creative way to strike down Meier.  Actually, if you think about it, they're going to starve to death before the fight is over.

Sid would raise the knife and try to depend on his vast knowledge and the history of shanking to battle and defeat wright, but alas, wright would have a good chat with his knife and convince it to throw itself at sid while he sits back and has a nice drink.

So the gist is that you start in old days and work your way forward.  So, for instance, your horse paths eventually become interstate highways, just like Philly's shitty ass roads.  I grind my teeth on 76 every day; I'm not playing a game like that.
