Witcher Developers Making Game Based on Pen-And-Paper RPG Cyberpunk

The developers of The Witcher II are making a game based on pen-and-paper-RPG Cyberpunk.

Please, please let it actually be called Cyberpunk!

CD Projekt Red said the game will be “richly detailed, non-linear, and with a complex and gripping story,” which sounds like something you’d hear from the guys responsible for The Witcher series.

Actual details on the game are slim, but we’re to expect “twists” in the design techniques the studio has employed in its previous games. Given the tonal shift and new universe, that makes sense. It’s likely Cyberpunk will involve a bunch more shooting than you were ever doing with magic in The Witcher.

This is not, however, the same team who worked on The Witcher and The Witcher 2, though several “veterans” of the franchise will be part of this new team.

It’s unclear if Cyberpunk will end up anywhere besides the PC, but with CD Projekt Red expanding onto Mac and console platforms lately, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see Cyberpunk elsewhere.

Was never really interested in The Witcher, but they're clearly a talented group so this could be pretty cool. There needs to be more cyberpunk games.

Gonna follow this with great interest, can't wait to see what visuals RED Engine can pull off in a new setting.

After playing the Witcher 2 on 360, I'm extremely excited to see what CD Projekt Red makes next. I hope it'll come to console(s), but I wouldn't be surprised to see it beome PC exclusive.

This will be CD Projekt's KOTOR, where half of the D&D/Witcher fans accuse them of selling out and the other half are still super into it. Then their next big thing after this will lose the other half of the Witcher fans (who will say CD Projekt is RUINED FOREVER), and lose half of the fans from Cyberpunk. And on and on.

I play tabletop and I've never heard of Cyberpunk. Or at least, there's really no one who would tell me to play it when there's perfectly good Shadowrun available.

*Probably not because while that sounded WAY cool in late 80's and early 90's these days that's only eight years from now.

In fairness, Bioware's style of games has shifted pretty radically in the past few years. It's really not hard to see why those who loved them through Baldurs Gate, Neverwinter Nights and KoTOR, turned on them because of DA2 and the Mass Effect sequels. CD Projekt are being lauded for not watering down their games for mass market appeal.

This should fill the Blade Runner void now that Prey 2 won't see the light of day for a while.

Thought they'd do a third witcher before moving on. Better to take a break I guess and maybe come back to it with some fresh eyes and possibly some new skills. Couldn't ask for a better departure though. Love me some cyberpunk.

Not sure. Frankly most of the people reporting wouldn't even know to ask. Personally, I wouldn't be against another take on the stats.

And really our worlds diverged in like 1990. At the very least Cyberpunk 2013 was the first edition, so we are one year away from street samurai loaded with cyberware, hackers plugging into decks, and AV's patrolling our city streets.
