When a game is just too hard, there's only one real solution to the problem: turn it into a text adventure.

Okay, so I was wrong about the Bears beating the Packers. Really wrong. Shut up. Just shut up.

Flip side, I’m pleased at a Dragon’s Dogma expansion for next year, and hope it spurs at least a few people to give that game another shot. So many focused on me giving that game three stars and ignored the amount of praise that was heaped upon the parts of the game that did work. Dragon’s Dogma’s combat is unbelievably good, and kept me playing dozens of hours until it was over, even if the world and the story didn’t do much for me until the very end.

That brings me to a suggestion, though. If you’ll never play Dragon’s Dogma, at least look up what happens in the endgame. It’s totally insane, and I wish Capcom had pulled that trigger way earlier.

Dragon's Dogma is a franchise that can and should be huge for Capcom here in the West. Whether the company is able to capitalize on the opportunity in front of them, however, I'm not really sure. Outside of Monster Hunter, Capcom seems awfuly confused.

Look, Super Hexagon is a super hard game. Like, super hard. There’s a reason super is in the title, and you shouldn’t feel bad for not being any good at it. I’m certainly not, unless you count surviving just over 30 seconds to be braggable. Actually, I do. I totally think that being able to survive 30 seconds in Super Hexagon is something worth bragging about, even if it’s nothing compared to what freaks like Jason Killingworth are able to pull off. Thankfully, designer Casey Griggs has come up with a reasonable solution: turn Super Hexagon into a text adventure.

So much of how Electronic Arts has handled Medal of Honor: Warfighter has been perplexing, and will prove tragic if the game, ultimately, turns out to be pretty good. I’m not expecting much more than a competent riff on Call of Duty with a tiny nod towards authenticity, but this is coming from someone who genuinely enjoyed the last Medal of Honor, flaws ‘n all. With the last one, at least there was a genuine attempt to try something different. Anyway, this LA Times report about how a former Navy SEAL may have consulted on the game without approval from the government is just the latest in a series of PR snafus painting a dark picture for a game that probably doesn’t deserve such scorn.

Valve Just Launched Greenlight, So Here’s Some Games That Don’t Look Terrible

  • Haunted Investigations is one of the scary games from the live show, and it has serious promise.
  • I'm digging the selection of atmospheric first-person games on Greenlight, such as The Light.
  • Ever since trying out the demo for The Asylum, I've had this one my "please come out soon" list.

Don't get anything tattooed anywhere. The chances of you liking anything you liked ten years ago are slim to none.

When I was 16 I listened to Metallica, played JRPGs and thought Pulp Fiction was the greatest movie ever. I could've fucked up bad.

Capcom isnt confused. JAPAN is confused, i think everything Japan has ever done right in the west is completely by accident. They just do weird things and when they work they go "ohhhhhhh good times big Americans like XXXXXXXX" then they iterate on this and completely miss the damn point.

Time will tell but i believe the WII U will exemplify this weird mentality, they made the WII with one agenda, it worked for a completely different reason that the east will never comprehend, and with the WII U they have taken the next logical step in all the wrong directions. I honestly believe Japan is a child with its dads shotgun thinking it knows the west but its so naiive and so trusting of its heritage that it will always fall foul of the natives.

Just my 2p

That reminds me. At PAX East this year the Far Cry 3 booth was tattooing people. I never got close enough to see if they were tattooing the game logo or Ubisoft logo or something on them, but I just always wanted to run up and scream "Stop, you don't know what you're doing!"

Yes. Yes.

However, it's likely for the best. A game based on "The Room" would melt all of our brains.

Nope - I'd say that is pretty accurate. I especially enjoy his interactions with the other McElroys - MBMBAM and The Besties are right up there with Bombcast and Idle Thumbs.

Then I played it and was completely disappointed. Definitely the biggest gaming letdown for me this year.

That Oozengard game looked neat, but I thought it would be like $5. When I saw that supporting it was just a dollar, though...

Also in for Sealark and Project Eternity. God damn, as a pc gamer kickstarter know how to push my buttons.

No. And his fake advice podcast My Brother, My Brother and Me is hilarious, even if the premise wore thin for me ultimately.

Yes. The game controls poorly and a lot of the difficulty comes from that.

Picked up and played through that Room game on iPad.

I would love for there to be more games that are just puzzle games without the adventure game fluff that's added which is what prevented me from playing through the Puzzle Agent and Layton games. That being said, this game sorta implies that there's story so I couldn't help but be disappointed with the ending. Anyway, lookin forward to seeing what else they come up with.

I dunno man, when I was 16, I just *might* have gotten a Roland TR-808 logo tattooed somewhere. I'd probably find that amusing now (in my 40s), but definitely wouldn't be ashamed of it.

Medal of Honor is a sad example of a game getting overshadowed by the sheer incompetence of its publisher. It's pretty clear, and has been for a while now, that EA is doing this shit on purpose to stoke the flames of controversy in a bone-headed attempt to boost sales. Between this, Dante's Inferno, Dead Space 2 and their "rot from the core," spiel about Call of Duty, they come off as the worst kinds of attention whores. I've got no sympahy at all for them.

who genuinely enjoyed the last Medal of Honor, flaws ‘n all. With the last one, at least there was a genuine attempt to try something different.

Anyone else have as huge a problem with statements like this as I do? Patrick's such a punk sometimes - you can tell that, as a gamer, he grew up on the Xbox1 and has no concept of innovation. I mean, shit, the FPS' of the late 90's were genuinely creative. There was an arms race between studios like Monolith, id, Epic, 3D Realms and Lucasarts seeing who could outdo each other. Both in terms of technology (3D engines, AI) and game design; it was never going to be enough to merely rip off the Lightning Gun from Quake, Epic needed to make something way better (the Redeemer in Unreal).

Not ONE of these military innovates AT ALL. There is NOTHING different - they're all following the template from the first Call of Duty. The level designs are not identical, but besides that, what exactly is "something different" to you? Because they're all covering the same territory. They all take place in the same settings - generic bombed out city 1, generic bombed out city 2, generic dusty middle eastern country, etc. They all feature the same western soldiers. They all feature the exact same guns AND enemies (do you like you generic terrorists in Afghani or Russian flavors?), AND vehicles. And the same stage designs (hooray! A turret sequence AND a sniper stage! INNOVATIVE!).

So do you think it tried something different because you have a very narrow idea of what first person shooters are, Patrick? Or because Gamestop or someone did a PR-approved interview with EA and the tools working on Medal of Honor TOLD YOU they're making something different? Either way, you're wrong.
