XBLA's Summer Of Arcade 09: Dates 'n Prices

Just like the headline says!

Straight out the press release, here are the dates and prices for this year's five Summer of Arcade XBLA games. I can't say it's quite as exciting as last year--you simply can't touch the one-two-three punch of Castle Crashers, Braid, and Geometry Wars 2--but then, I'm personally quite interested in Splosion Man and Shadow Complex. I guess two out of five ain't bad.

What are you looking forward to?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled

Marvel vs. Capcom 2

July 29, 1200 Microsoft Points

Splosion Man

August 5, 800 Microsoft Points

(Twisted Pixel Games/Microsoft): Fools they were, to tread where knowledge should stay forbidden.  For what emerged was not a man - it was a Splosion Man. Able to splode himself at will, the Splosion Man launches his way through levels as an uncontainable force.  From Twisted Pixel Games, developer of the award winning The Maw™, Splosion Man will keep you on your toes as you play through more than 50 single-player levels and 50 multiplayer levels. Nominated by GameSpy, Gamespot, IGN, and 411mania, this meat-riddled splosion-fest took several Best of E3 awards including Best Platformer and Best Downloadable Game.

Trials HD

Shadow Complex

August 19, 1200 Microsoft Points

(Chair Entertainment and Epic Games/Microsoft): Winner of numerous Best of E3 awards including Best Downloadable Game from 1UP, IGN, GameTrailers and G4TV, “Shadow Complex” is the next evolution in downloadable games. “Shadow Complex” marries the quality and depth of a full retail title with the stunning visuals of Epic Games’ industry-leading Unreal Engine 3, and a classic side-scroller. Set in the world of Orson Scott Card’s best-selling novel, “Empire,” Shadow Complex provides more than 10 hours of in-depth gameplay and introduces a compelling universe.

I waited a long time to get Shadow Complex today and then also got Marvel vs. Capcom on impulse. Both are fantastic, but I've never been into fighters so I like SC better.

Can't wait! Trials HD, Splosion Man and Shadow Complex all look so good!
Don't know why people are moaning about the cost though.
You never see anything of this standard for 400points.
I'd happily pay £30 for shadow complex if is as good as it looks.
Does anybody know how they're handling user generated content in Trials HD? I want to be able to browse and download levels like little big planet.
As for last year I think Shadow Complex will outshine everything! I can't wait for it!!!!!!!!

I see Shadow Complex as something I might bother buying and playing for a few minutes, but I just can't seem to get myself excited by any of the other stuff. Meh.

Shadow Complex looks interesting but I don't know much about it. The game I'm most looking for is Monkey Island SE which I think is out a week before the Summer of Arcade.

I don't care for any of the games.  I might if I try them out. I also think the points you gotta pay for them is getting too much.

I totally agree with you on this one dude. And to make things even more rediculous, Castle Crashers was only 800 points! Microsoft tried to tell Behemoth to raise the price, but thankfully those newgrounds dudes that i love so much aren't greedy bitches like some people I know....MICROSOFT!!

I'm not happy about TMNT being 1200 instead of 800, but I'll still pick it up since it's something I think my wife might actually play with me.  It's one of those games that she's actually better at than me!

I am probably going to end up only getting Shadow Complex and 'Splosion Man. Unfortunately, not many games are really grabbing me like they did last year. And Brad, you forgot the amazingness of Bionic Commando: Rearmed on your recap. Jeff disapproves, I am sure.

Really, I'm skipping out on those 3 because of it, I hate that 1200 MSP has become the standard for XBLA games. Shadow Complex and Splosion Man FTW!

Turtles needs to be lowered in price.  That game is only as good as its online community, and if most think its not worth 1200 its just not going to be much fun.  The 1st was only 400 points, i thought with the work they were putting into it we would get 800 but 1200 is just wrong.  Its only going to sell a hand full and thats going to hurt the multiplayer.  I also bet 800 points would make them more money in the end. Dumb greedy publishers, earn money selling in bulk, not by only selling to the rich.

Last year's was much better due to the fact I bought every one of them that came out and all of them were enjoyable.  I will be getting Shadow Complex since it looks like the Metroid/Castlevania kind of gameplay, which is a plus for me.  Not sure on the rest, have to see watch stuff on Splosion Man to see how it goes.

Ohh wow, I was sure shadow complex was gonna be $20 and Splosion Man was gonna be $15.  If Marvel Vs Capcom was $10 i would be more interested.  Hopefully it will be on sale someday.  Still, I miss the 400/800 point days.
"

I miss paying 400 points as well, but you have to remember that it depends entirely on the content of the game, and it's market appeal. Stuff like MvC2 is guaranteed to seel even at 1200, same for Epics game. Most other things are a standard 800 unless they have a particularly large amount of content (and you have to admit, the quality is generally going up and up on these downloadable titles, and so is the work and money being put into them)

But there are still 400 point games, look at the Sega game released not so long ago.

So, Turtles in Time is a remake of the arcade version and not the SNES version?  So, no Technodrome level and no Bebop and Rocksteady?  This gets a definite pass from me.

I bought Trials 2 for $3 on Steam. It's fun, but it's punishingly difficult.

Kind of a weak lineup compared to last year's. I was hoping for some Perfect Dark.

I'm surprised Shadow Complex is only fifteen dollars. I would've thought they'd surely go for the full twenty.
