Your Most Wanted Achievements

Want to know what the most desired achievements are? The answer lies within.

POOOOOINTS!
The achievement tracking feature we rolled out back in May has proven to be pretty popular with you guys. It's probably one of my favorite things about Giant Bomb, and it's only gotten better over time. In addition to tracking your Xbox 360 profiles and World of Warcraft accounts, we're now keeping stats on PC games that use Steam to offer achievements. And I'm hoping that we'll be able to get PlayStation 3 trophies in the mix in the relatively near future. All of this gives us a great deal of data to play with, and we're thinking about different ways to let you play with it down the line.

So I figured I'd share some statistics with you that I found pretty interesting. These figures cover data that goes all the way back to the mid-May launch of our achievement stuff. In the future, I'll be limiting the data to shorter timeframes so we can all see how it changes from week to week.

For starters, here are the top five achievement lists on Giant Bomb. Whether people are searching on Google or just navigating the site directly, these are the five full achievement lists that you've been asking for more than any others.

  1. Prototype
  2. Ghostbusters: The Video Game
  3. Red Faction: Guerrilla
  4. UFC 2009 Undisputed
  5. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10

Considering how well UFC seems to have been selling, I can't say I'm too surprised to see it up there. Also, it might say good things about Red Faction: Guerrilla's sales that it's already ahead of UFC, even though it hasn't been out for as long. After seeing the above list, I'm not too surprised to see achievements from some of those games on the most popular achievements list. Oh, and keep in mind that we've yet to build in proper support for secret achievements, which may skew the data a bit.

With that, these are the ten most popular individual achievements on Giant Bomb.

  1. Prototype - Self-Deception
  2. Ghostbusters: The Video Game - I Love You When You Rough-House!
  3. UFC 2009 Undisputed - World Class Grappler
  4. Prototype - Return Fire
  5. Prototype - Web Of Knowledge
  6. UFC 2009 Undisputed - Hall of Famer
  7. Fable II - The Fowl Player
  8. UFC 2009 Undisputed - That was easy!
  9. Ghostbusters: The Video Game - Ghostbusters Drinking Game
  10. Ghostbusters: The Video Game - Egon's Guinea Pig

Another DID YOU KNOW moment here. DID YOU KNOW that we allow people to comment on individual achievements? It's true! We've done this so that people can get in there and help each other out. So if you're working on The Fowl Player in Fable and can't figure out how to get the chicken suit, well, our achievement page happens to already have the answer. So sync up your accounts today, and if you've been waiting to get your PSN account and trophies up in there, hang tight. Hopefully we'll be able to have something for you before too long. It's a nice feature. Thanks for putting it up on the site.

Ergo, Prototype is pretty awesome, and it damn is!

i like commenting on achievements where no one else has, it's oddly novel

If only my 360 was connected to Wi-Fi...

Posted by ManMadeGod

My favorite part about this feature is being able to comment on individual achievements: that was a great idea.

Kinda werid that I had the Tiger Woods page open when I clicked on this article. Then again those points are so dam hard to get it's no wonder that that page is being looked at a lot.

I can't wait to see what you guys do with this stuff in the future.

I looked for That was easy! on UFC. I'm contributing! Kind of

News must be incredibly slow today.

@Jeff: Since all of those seem to be Xbox 360 games/achievements, can I ask what the most popular games & achievements on steam are? And I'm not particularly interested, but I'm sure some people would be interested in the most popular WoW achievements too.

I am really liking the comments on each achievement, its nice to get tips on those hard to get ones. I just wish that there was no 'secret' achievements, Its impossible to tell what all my cool rare achievements are because they are all secret, but there isn't a lot you guys can do about that I suppose :P
Unless you went and built a database of all the achievement names, points, and descriptions and matched them with each secret achievement. It sucks though because itd have to be you guys doing that as far as I can figure because we have no way of telling which achievement is which. There must be a way!

I know it might seem silly, but I'd appreciate it if instances of "Xbox Live" on the achievement pages were changed to simply "Live". As I said, I know it's silly, but some of use use GFW Live and don't own a 360 and are annoyed by an automated system suggesting I do.

Since Steam hasn't been in as long as 360, the numbers are a bit skewed in favor of the 360. When I tighten it up to the last week of traffic, it'll probably start to even out a bit. The data isn't broken up in a way that makes it easy to search out specific games right now, but after giving it a glance, it seems that the most popular Steam achievement is...

...from Plants vs. Zombies.

Those are recent games so people are still playing them and want to know what the achievements are.

Posted by StarFoxA

Those achievements are cool and all, but I think the achievement I personally want most is Smile in Geometry Wars 2.

I endured playing Rag Doll Kung Fu today to get a trophy...

I've got 890 from Ghostbusters right now.  Fun game.  Also, those top five games all happen to be the pages I've been refreshing for the last two days repeatedly.  = D

I think what he's hoping for, me as well, is not only an overall popular achievements but ones that are also specific to each service like WoW, Steam, Live and eventually PSN.

It'd be nice if on the achievement commentary page, if people get could points for being tagged as "helpful" or something, to encourage people to leave tips/strategies, or in the case of Secret Achievements, a description, too.

i wanna be tracked! how? i play on PC i have steam

Posted by GeekDown

I really didn't care about achievements before the tracking feature...but now I must say I have gotten a bit obsessed with it, even though i'm not great at getting them.

Posted by MetalGearSunny

I want my trophys on there! AHHHHH

Sony! Build a fucking API already!

Posted by suneku

Ghostbusters achievements are awesome, I went for most of them just because they were lines from the movie.

@Metal_Gear_Sunny: How many do you have?
Posted by FlipperDesert

This is an awesome feature, it also got me into TF2, which is good all-round.

About 270. But I looked around and I have some rare ones.

I love how GB has implemented this achievement stuff.  I'm actually about to start Prototype today :D

Posted by MrMiyagi

One of the best features on the site.

Posted by raidingkvatch

Once I've finished a bunch of PS3 games I got after getting a PS3 for my 18th I'm gonna have to do some acheivement whoring and play through games again

Because it's awesome.

Achievement number 10 is just plain broken - half of people playing got it, the other half won't get it. Ever. Guess which group I'm at.

Can't wait for PSN Trophy support on the site. This feature looks amazing.

Posted by TekZero

I want to see a list of the least searched and least popular achievements.

Posted by garnsr

I hope Trophies are able to be integrated someday.  I'm really curious how many people have the Steel Bladder in Rock Band 2, I think that must be my least common Trophy/Achievement.  And the comments, especially on hidden Achievements, is very helpful.

Keep the stream of awesome flowing, boys!

See, people are trying to copy Nintendo when Nintendo should do a little copying. Do it Nintendo, hell, put out a channel which tracks my games. Can't we all just share?

I love Giant Bomb.

Posted by Media_Master

Great news!!!

Posted by SJSchmidt93

Giant Bomb: Small staff, community, and traffic (compared to other major gaming sites) but somehow has some amazing features... like this one. My hat goes off to the developers of this technology (i know it wasn't the 4 guys we all know, more than likely behind the scenes tech guys), good work.

The feature is REALLY nice. But I wouldn't hold my breath for Sony's achievements system... Lawyers told some people to C&D about data people pulled from LBP for instance. (More info: Sackbook was pulled and hasn't been put back up yet, but it seems Media Molecule is bringing a "web-based level-search feature" out "soon", whenever that is if it isn't smoke up our ass)

Unless you (Jeff/guys are GiantBomb) get on SCEA/Sony's ass and hassle them I wouldn't hold my breath for getting PSN trophies on the list. Shit, SCEA still hasn't rolled out "trophy cards"/gamercards like MS has for trophy level/information that EU rolled out several months ago.
Posted by LordelX

C'mon Sony. Help out Giant Bomb and get trophies in there!

Posted by Th3_James

my trophies list ain't shit, just cuz i play most multi plats on my 360 and only buy ps3 exclusives

Posted by VibratingDonkey

This is a dastardly evil creation. And it'll only grow more maniacal over time. I used to not really care about achievements. Now whenever I feel like playing something I'll confer with my list of D's first. You've made me replay GTAIV. I don't really mind though. Especially since I now know you can cheat armor onto you. Guess when I'll be coming to your gun store?

Edited by BlackPuma

I liked the achievements from Dead Rising.
Challenging and fun.

Posted by Jedted

Red Faction is number 3 on the list, funny since i just rented that this week.  The achievements there seem pretty easy aside from a few multiplayer ones but perhaps some of the folks on GB can help with that.

Thanks for the update Jeff!  Can't wait to see what the next top 5 looks like.

Yay for Red Faction love. Game rules, as does the achievement tracking.... rules.
