Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D Coming To Nintendo's 3DS

Too many new Zelda games AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!

So very much Zelda. It wasn't enough for Nintendo to announce the new Zelda: Skyward Sword for Wii this morning. A few minutes ago at a post-E3 roundtable, the company's maestro of game design Shigeru Miyamoto casually mentioned that arguably the most beloved Zelda ever, Ocarina of Time, will be coming to the Nintendo 3DS.

Some people (like me) consider Ocarina one of the very best and most important games of all time, so that's a pretty big deal.

It seems like the final game's title will be The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, based on a non-interactive demo I got to see before Miyamoto's Q&A. That demo pretty much just showed Ocarina's original intro, with Link riding around on Epona, galloping around the overworld in front of Hyrule Castle. Same music and camera angles as the original, to my recollection, but the graphics were very obviously a lot more detailed (and in 3D) than those in the old Nintendo 64 game.

In fact, unlike Super Mario 64, which was ported pretty much as-is to the original DS for its launch, Ocarina 3D will receive significant updates, according to Miyamoto. For one, director Eiji Aonuma pledged to make amends for the deplorable Water Temple in this updated version by adding a touch-screen method of quickly toggling the iron boots on and off. Hooray!
