So I just recently started with this and so far I'm glad that Ubi has turned out a solid PC port of this game. Shit just looks good and I'm able to get 50-60 frames with nearly maxed out settings and medium AA at 1080p.

Whoops

I'll add more as I progress further. Feel free to add your own.

Man that looks nice, what are you running and what FPS, really interested what the Frontier looks like on high end PC. Might go sell my 360 copy as Im only 10 hours in.

#3 Edited by Colourful_Hippie (4330 posts) -

@Bourbon_Warrior: Read the OP, I listed the settings and FPS. I've got an i5 and GTX 555 so you definitely get some mileage out of the older GPU's. I wonder how much of a hit the FPS will take once I get to the frontier or bigger cities but at least I won't have to drop the resolution by much if that ends up being the case.

Looking good. The towns look bigger then I thought honestly.

strange, i got a fx4170 and an msi 7870 yet when i hit boston my frames just disappeared. I should be able to run it as good, if not better than your setup.

I've read about this issue from others as well. Game runs just fine, but as soon as they hit a city the frame rate goes to shit.

Yup, I had to tweak couple of settings cuz my frames dropped to 40 which is weird cuz that guy's setup should be fine.

I think the issue is that Ubisoft didn't put enough graphics options to mess with. The draw distance in this game is fucking ridiculous that I wish I could reduce it so I can get a better performance and you can't disable tessellation. I bet they will be patched in.

Should I buy it or is it still glitchy and messed up?

i found the draw distance to be incredibly small and would like to increase it, im having buildings pop in as im walking down the street, also when i do a sync the world looks like its belt on top of a penny with emptiness all around. im wondering if the game on start up works out what your recommended draw distance should be and sets it accordingly.

@Colourful_Hippie: Wait it's out? Ohshit. Why was it pulled from Steam? Urgh now I have to wait for delivery.

Oh wait, 'murica. Still don't understand why the page is completely gone in the UK for Steam, but eh. Does the disc version use Steamworks? I might just preorder it...

@buft: Either way there needs to be more graphics options because there's something that is draining my frames to the point that even changing resolutions barely changes anything so I'm keeping it to 1080. Also I never had buildings pop in so maybe you're right about the auto detection but it seems to be really inaccurate because I don't need the draw distance to be this large.

Huh? It's still here.

Edit: I don't think so because when I launch the game it takes you to a stupid Uplay UI. It's not terrible because you can go to the game fast but it's just an extra step that doesn't need to be there.

How big is the game on Steam?

#15 Edited by Colourful_Hippie (4330 posts) -

@FritzDude: 17 gigs.

@SharkEthic: I've done 3 or 4 missions in Boston. How much longer until I actually become Connor?

@AhmadMetallic said:

The only glitch I ran into so far is a guy I was supposed to run after and follow and he accidentally ran into a group of guards and couldn't move forward. I think the only issue with the game is the lack of multiple graphics options because there seems to be something in the larger environments that is a drain on my frames but if you have a really good rig then you shouldn't have to worry.

Does this PC version finally have proper gamepad support?

#17 Edited by Colourful_Hippie (4330 posts) -

@RVonE: Yes. The franchise has had gamepad support since Brotherhood. I can't speak for the previous games because I haven't played them on PC.

#18 Posted by SharkEthic (1004 posts) -

@Colourful_Hippie: Takes about forever, then you have to play hide and seek with some Indians for a while, and then it's pretty much just more Assassins Creed.

#19 Edited by RVonE (4605 posts) -

@Colourful_Hippie: Well, there was gamepad support for AC2 but it was terrible which is why I was asking. Thanks!

EDIT: looking around the internet gives me the impression that gamepad support for Brotherhood was flawed as well.

#20 Posted by Colourful_Hippie (4330 posts) -

@RVonE: I want to say that the controls were mapped weirdly but I never had a major issue with it, but trust me on AC 3 it's the standard gamepad support you get like in other games.

#21 Posted by RVonE (4605 posts) -

@Colourful_Hippie: Okay, thanks, that's what I want.

#22 Posted by bibamatt (1086 posts) -

I'm enjoying all these AC3 PC screenshots in this thread.

#23 Posted by Colourful_Hippie (4330 posts) -

@bibamatt: Yeah I like how this turned into Q&A on the pc version. Gotta start uploading more shots now.

On the UK store it disappeared a week ago. And ah okay thanks.

im playing it at the moment and can testify to the gamepad support being perfect

@Colourful_Hippie: Spoiler free please, but more screens yes! Getting my digital key for steam on friday (release date in Norway).

#28 Posted by Colourful_Hippie (4330 posts) -

@fetchfox: There really isn't any spoilers in those screens. If someone was worried about what is exactly in the game then they shouldn't be looking at screenshots. I'm going to wait on posting more till I get to some new environments.

#29 Posted by fetchfox (1221 posts) -

@Colourful_Hippie: I meant in upcoming sceens, not those you've already posted. But I see how you could misunderstand my post, no worries. Looking forward to see some snow environments.

Probably because nobody bought it yet. I dunno how you go from creating third-person action masterpieces, that happen to run almost flawlessly on the PC, to releasing what people call a "boring" glitchy as hell trainwreck that, also by the way, is lacking on the PC.

What went wrong with AC3? Don't think I'm buying anytime soon.

#31 Posted by Colourful_Hippie (4330 posts) -

@AhmadMetallic: What are you talking about? I would agree if you were talking about the console versions but there's a reason why Ubi dumped out a huge patch to fix that shit and made sure those patches made it into the PC version at launch. The only thing that's missing is more configurable graphics options.

yea but the graphics settings being like that have been there since day one with the 1st assassin's creed.

#33 Posted by MachoFantastico (4492 posts) -

Been waiting for the PC version, having played Brotherhood and Revelations on PC I couldn't handle the awful framerate of the console version.

#34 Posted by MachoFantastico (4492 posts) -

I have read that Assassin's Creed 3 will appear on the UK Steam store after release or day of release. It's apparently down to a stupid agreement Ubisoft have with retailers. Hope is it'll be up on Friday.

#35 Edited by WilltheMagicAsian (1544 posts) -

This is with TXAA enabled. My frames took a dip when I got to the city though. Knocked AA down to high and I could stay above 60 on my GTX 670.

#36 Posted by Colourful_Hippie (4330 posts) -

@TrueEnglishGent: Well that's dumb.

@WilltheMagicAsian: Fuck that looks great!

Need some images of the end naval battle. I had reservations about the ship stuff but, man, that was the best part of the game; the climax you might say. Too bad you have a pretty crappy chase sequence that wraps up the game after that because it could of ended on that high note.

I have only done about 3 of them and they are so fucking fun, haven't had that experience with any game before. There is way more control to them than I thought, plus the whole upgrade your ship mechanic.

#39 Posted by Colourful_Hippie (4330 posts) -

@Bourbon_Warrior: If you're on PC take some damn pics! I can't do this thing solo!

#40 Edited by AhmadMetallic (18955 posts) -

40 minutes in, already pretty sick of the slow ass tutorializing. I'm playing detective on the ship, I should be stabbing brits like UH UH UH UH UH.

Still, I'm an Assassin's Creed fanboy, I'm gushing and laughing in excitement, game looks and feels superbbbbb

#41 Posted by Colourful_Hippie (4330 posts) -

@AhmadMetallic: Now that's what I'm talking about. I only recently reached the "open" part of AC 3. That linear grind was way too fucking long.

#42 Posted by dOm_CaTz (209 posts) -

took a couple with ezio's costume. 1440x900.

It's a really pretty game on PC.

#44 Posted by Mystyr_E (1189 posts) -

not exactly the most dignified way to die

#45 Posted by NoRemnants (378 posts) -

@Bourbon_Warrior: It doesn't look much better than the 360 version I played but having a solid 60fps on PC would be great.

#46 Posted by Bourbon_Warrior (4523 posts) -

@NoRemnants: Should of gone to specsavers!

#47 Posted by Bourbon_Warrior (4523 posts) -

@fetchfox: That 6th shot looks incredible if there was no UI it would be my desktop wallpaper.

Thanks! Had to hold some buttons to get that shot, heh. I wish I could oblige you, but even if I turn off all the UI, the money counter still shows.

@NoRemnants: Check out a side by side comparison, the PC version is definitely graphically superior. On max settings its quite the difference.

EDIT: some potential shots for you @Bourbon_Warrior:

I'm about 20 minutes into the game and the 'Press B to Skip' in the corner of every single fucking cutscene already made me want to never play the game again. Way to have no respect for what you're doing at all, Ubisoft.
