This is what I've been hearing a lot from impressions. First 6 hours are tutorial.

Boston doesn't open up until then, it's not fully built yet.

No hunting. No trading. No tree climbing.

Seems a bit long, Assassin's Creed 2 and onwards were slow but not to this extent.

    That's... a lot.

Hopefully they justify it with good/plenty of story stuff.

Hmm. You would think they wouldn't need to keep doing this, since EVERY game has done the exact same thing. It's part of why I could barely get through Revelations. Slogging through that boring beginning part again nearly put me to sleep.

All the Assassin's Creed games had painfully long tutorial sequences. I felt like I was getting introduced to new mechanics ten hours in in Revelations.

Sounds about par for the series?

Also, I'm going to go ahead and guess here that it's not so much a constant tutorial as it is introducing systems as they come, while the game paces introducing new systems. Just like all the other games in the series have done...? :P

Anyone know when embargo is lifted on this game? I am interested in playing it and I dont want to get my impressions from random forum chatter. I know some people will argue that professional reviews may be just as biased as regular players, but at least it will be a little better thought out criticism.

Is it tutorial, or a lengthy part of the game where new things are slowly introduced to the player in a tutorial-like way of "press X to Y", which is what passes for a tutorial this generation around ie FF13's 20+ hour tutorial?

    2 edgy 4 me

Hopefully it isn't painfully obvious that it is tutorial stuff and they find a way to introduce mechanics through a series of story missions that play out in a logical way. AC as a series has always been pretty good about justifying and hiding the fact that you are playing nothing but a glorified tutorial mission.

It should really be an option then. As the games get more and more complicated, a larger percent of them will have to be tutorial. Most gamers are intelligent enough to figure things out. We don't need our hands held for half the game.

I feel like that first few hours of every Assassin's Creed games are mostly tutorials as they slowly introduce all their mechanics. That said if it's anything like previous games those tutorials are sprinkled in between some good action sequences and some story.

I'm about 2 hours into this game and so far it's kind of a mess. There's a lot of arbitrary "walk 5 feet to initiate cutscene" nonsense. I mean a lot. Even more than previous games in the series. Also, I've played as 2 different characters so far, neither of which are the guy on the cover of the fucking box. I really feel like the story telling mechanic of this game has become kind of tedious.

That isnt good, I suffered through with AC1 and 2 because it was new and I was extremely excited but going through it again for Brotherhood was terrible and hard (though the game opened up and was fantastic) and I still have never got through the Revelations tutorial time.

No I have not. Would like to try it, but I'm satisfied with Chivalry. People who have tried both are saying the combat in Chivalry has more depth anyway, even though it may not look like it at first.

Oy vey... this has been the way since AC2. What did you expect from the next numbered game? So long as the tutorial introduces story along the way (like AC2 did so well), I'm more than fine with that.

@bslayer: I'm sure they are. People can bash Ubi and all that, but this is the first "AnvilNext" game, and the third Assassin's Creed. They're going to pace it so the majority of consumers enjoy it thoroughly.
