The foundation of America and the shrugging off colonial (British) rule is one of the greatest flashpoints in world history. The birth of a federal constitutional republic is a revolutionary concept that's more than ripe for the shadowplay and conspiracy that the Creed series is known and loved for. I'm going to fire up the Animus I happen to have in my garage and come up with some possible plot ideas. Cue music.

The year is 1763. After Templar-controlled England nearly bankrupts the British Crown with the Seven Years War. The Templars (namely King George III) see the American Colonies as fertile new ground for exploitation and start bleeding the colonists with unfair taxation. The Redcoats are the footsolders of the Templar's attempting to gain further control of not just the British colonies, but the European continent as a whole. The Templars has already infiltrated various elements of the French aristocracy and the order is poised to make a comeback in a very big way. A whole New World to search for the mysterious Pieces of Eden.

Unfortunately for the Templars, some members of the Assassin's order have already become colonists well before the outbreak of the Revolution. Adding the infiltration of the Freemasons by individuals like Benjamin Franklin (head of the American Assassin's Order) and John Adams, the Order sows the seeds of revolution against the British and their Templar masters.

December 13th 1773: The Assassin's Order launches their first strike against the British and the Templar-controlled East India company on a cool Boston night.

America was not the first Representative democracy (that would go to Rome), nor are we a totally Representative democracy.

    Details revealed include:

    • The game is set during the American Revolution between 1753 and 1783
    • The protagonist's name is Connor, or Ratohnhaké:ton in native Mohawk tongue
    • The game will finish the story of Desmond Miles
    • Connor is born of a white English father and Native American mother
    • The story focuses on his belonging to neither culture
    • He takes no sides, and will go after both “Americans” and British
    • Both sides portrayed objectively, but Connor chooses to act “against tyranny” after a family murder
    • Will be involved in major events of the American Revolution (Saratoga, Bunker Hill listed amongst many) but will keep focus on Connor's story
    • Key characters will come into play: George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Charles Lee and many more
    • Economy, money, property all overhauled but still under wraps
    • Den defense from Revelations will not return
    • Multiplayer will be included but no further information was provided
    • Aim is to create “a next-gen game on current gen”
    • Uses Anvil 2.0, an overhauled version of the Anvil game engine
    • Game has been in production since Assassin's Creed II
    • “Seasons” occur, with every place having both a summer and winter version
    • Combat system completely overhauled, much more fluid
    • Heavy focus on offensive style combat due to addition of firearms. Removal of 'target lock' system to prevent 'turtling' tactic.
    • Climbing trees and traversing a wide area outside of Boston called 'The Frontier' will be a key aspect of the game.
    • The area of 'The Frontier' is 1.5 times the size of Rome in Brotherhood
    • 'The Frontier' will not be an empty space like the wilderness of the original Assassin's Creed, but will include around a third of quests and gameplay.
    • Hunting mechanic exists, can skin animals and make money, similar to Red Dead Redemption
    • Flintlock weapons appear
    • Connor can dual wield a hatchet and a knife
    • Massive battles of 1000+ enemies now possible
    • Will contain settlements occupied by Americans, British, Mohawk
    • Big “goal” is to allow the player to traverse restricted areas without the entire game mechanic causing enemies to get angry

You have a neat little story there, despite the fact that I may disagree with some of your historical 'views'. It wouldn't surprise me if this a similar vein in which Ubisoft takes this. For some reason, I saw Franklin (much as you did) as the sort of Leonardo character as soon as I learned what time period this would take place in. He has a very Assassin's feel to him. Minus the gout.

I've never been excited for an Assassins Creed game before. I like them but wouldn't consider them to be anything special, but this game now has the potential to get me excited. Hopefully because the game has been in development since 2 the game will turn out to be really good.

Seriously Ubisoft? Who was the fucking rocket scientist that thought tower defense in an Assassin's Creed game was a good idea?

Kill the awful Templar Awareness system from Revelations (why is my awareness going up from fixing up a bank?) and you got yourself a day one purchase right here.

Keeping on topic, the East India company HAS to be directly controlled by Abstergo.

The game will finish the story of Desmond Miles

This itself might warrant a play then.

To be fair, calling Rome a representative democracy is difficult considering how corrupt everyone was and the various methods used by the Senate and the Patricians to ignore the Plebeians.

The second part might be saying you can't just lock onto a guy and sit there blocking forever.

I would be pissed. The hidden blades are the trademark of the franchise, if they get rid of them then I'm possibly on the fence about this game.

The GI article talks about hidden blades so don't worry. Dual wielding sounds awesome, love the idea of tomahawk in one hand and hidden blade in the other.

Duder, they're not going to cut out the trademark weapon for the franchise. Hell, Desmond even has one now.
