What setting do you think they should go with next?

The Viking era, most definetly! Splitting some skulls, drinking some mead, kicking it with Harald Hårfagre.

Nazi-occupied France a la Saboteur would be sweet.

top o' da mornin' to ya!

even though The Saboteur had problems, I'd say that was enough for that specific setting.

@Shimmy: WHERE THE NINJAS ARE AT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

#54 Posted by GunstarRed (4997 posts) -

Prehistoric. You have to stalk other dinosaurs as a Velociraptor in a white hood with a hidden talon.

#55 Posted by Galiant (2176 posts) -

All Desmond! Modern, future, whatever it is. I want them to solve that problem and make it appealing (because it is a damn problem, I mean, how to fit assassin's blades in a world with firearms that don't take an eternity to reload, just to mention one).

#56 Posted by Phatmac (5720 posts) -

Modern Day, Desmond. Time to finish the fight.

#57 Posted by valrog (3671 posts) -
  • Feudal Japan
  • The French Revolution
  • Imperial Russia
  • Victorian England
  • Ancient Egypt
  • Roman Empire

Just kill off Desmond. One thing that is dragging the series down. Then the possibilities are endless.

Without Desmond they could pretty much do any country in any given historical time. Whether it's Republic of South Africa, China, Slovenia, Cuba, Sweden, you name it. I'm not a Historian, so I only listed a few settings that I've been wondering about since Assassin's Creed II, but I'm sure there are many more that would work perfectly. Fucking Desmond.

#58 Posted by Hunter5024 (5511 posts) -

I want to see an even split 50% Desmond in Future Manhattan or something, and 50% set in the crazy past future.

Option 1: Watch Dogs continues the story of AC Option 2: Alíen/Ancient Gods world

#61 Posted by WinterSnowblind (7613 posts) -

Ancient Egypt or feudal Japan are my favourite ideas so far.

I definitely don't want to see anything modern day/future. The Desmond stuff is painfully boring, and I wouldn't care if it was dropped from the series entirely (yeah, I'm looking forward to Liberation).

#62 Posted by Ares42 (2558 posts) -

You're talking about the sixth game in a series here. How many franchises are improving at that point without a complete reboot (not just a setting change) ? It's time to wrap it up, and the only way to do that is to make the Desmond game. Hell, if you ask me the setting change in AC3 probably won't save the franchise either. It'll still sell, but it's pretty safe to say that it's gonna be on a steady decline from now on.

#63 Posted by addictedtopinescent (3645 posts) -

I doubt they would go back in time, so that leaves them with like the 2 world wars... I wouldn't mind WW1

#64 Posted by Dagbiker (6939 posts) -

They need to have Desmond Die, and have a Future Relative of Desmond's get out of a Future Animis, in the Future. This future would be on a space ship, and you would have a future girl friend that would look like Future Yvonne Strahovski, or whoever that girl is.

#65 Posted by billyhoush (1192 posts) -

They should end it with 3 because it will already be the end of 2012 and Desmond saved us from end times.

#66 Posted by LiquidPrince (15834 posts) -

I don't think it would make sense for them to go back in time. So far every subsequent game has moved forward in history. So the next one if there is one after three, will have to be in a time past the 19th century.

#67 Posted by green_sky (49 posts) -

Keep it historical. Pre 1800's please. So much more explore.

I'm sorry that this bothers you. Is there any way I can make amends?

#69 Posted by ez123 (1944 posts) -

Ancient Greece sounds very cool. I think that and Ancient Egypt are my most wanted now.

As a weirdo who is mostly into the franchise for the Desmond stuff, cool settings are going to be the only things that get me to play another game after AC 3.

#70 Posted by Vinny_Says (5681 posts) -

While I do want Desmond's arc to end with Assassin's Creed 3 I do not mind more AC games in the future. Stuff I want to see in no particular order:

  • The Norman conquest of England (Brits are the bad guys again, lol)
  • The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
  • The Russian Revolution (kind of related to the point above but they have already made comic books about it)

There are a bunch of interesting assassinations to look up on the wikipedia article for assassination....I'm sure Ubisoft can pull something from it.

#71 Posted by DukesT3 (1888 posts) -

I hope its just DONE. Wrap it up and put a bow on it after the third one.

#72 Posted by NTM (7235 posts) -

Nothing against you OP, but I hate when people say "what say you?" or "pray tell", I don't know the right word for it, maybe it seems a little pretentious, though it's often not. Anyways, I'd hope it's not set in WWII. You'd imagine they just keep coming closer to present time, but maybe they could go even further back in time. That's not to say that's what I hope they do, but I'm not sure. Maybe we're going to go into the future, 'cause someone is actually in the animus and Desmond is the ancestor of the actual person in the animus; know what I mean? Has anyone thought of that? That's the twist right there.

Japan would be pretty cool

#74 Edited by Gerhabio (1975 posts) -

Everyone is saying feudal Japan, I guess it's their inner otaku speaking.

I personally rather see 19th century China. Cities were densely populated, buzzing with movement and the architecture was beautiful. Japan is overplayed.

I want something more unfamiliar and with a LOT of people to actually stealth instead of just knife and run as I did in previous games.

#75 Posted by Creamypies (4044 posts) -

Well the series has progressively moved forward in time, so I really can't imagine anything other than modern day with Desmond as the protagonist. Unless they set it during one of the World Wars, which could be interesting, but I'd prefer my original choice.

How about the American Civil War or Mexican Revolution?

The American Civil War is what ACIII is covering already.

Mexican Revolution sounds awesome.

Latin America in general would be pretty cool and if they can do one in modern day Africa (Lagos, Nigeria comes to mind) it would blow my mind. Those two continental masses never get much attention in video game land except for 'Merika Mawreens shooting up militia and trying to avoid three different models of non-descript civilians in the "jungle" or slums.

#77 Posted by Yadilie (380 posts) -

Expecting China with the female assassin from Embers. Would like a near future setting with Desmond but I guess I can just do with that Watch_Dogs game.

#78 Posted by TheHumanDove (2504 posts) -

I think it should be in the near future, and a shrink ray is used to make the newest assassin tiny enough to go on a whacky adventure inside a human body! Think of all the jokes!!

#79 Edited by BisonHero (6054 posts) -

I think they should just find a satisfying conclusion for it at the end of Assassin's Creed III. That would be nice. But they won't, because it makes Ubisoft way too much money.

So they'll keep making them for years to come, until the quality of the series eventually declines into mediocrity and people stop buying it, and Ubisoft quietly takes a break from making the series for several years.

Even though you said I was pretentious, that is a pretty good twist.

This is a trilogy. This, after some iterations based on Connor, the series will end.

THE MOON

#83 Posted by TheSlothKing (329 posts) -

@Gerhabio: No, AC3 is covering the American Revolutionary War. American Civil War (1861–1865), American Revolutionary War (1775–1783).

Oh, duder, you're right. Washington is in it and everything. My bad.

#85 Posted by NTM (7235 posts) -

@Shimmy: No, I didn't call you that. I was trying to say you weren't, but I don't often like it when people say that sort of thing. It's not a huge problem, but still.

#86 Edited by Shimmy (182 posts) -

@NTM: Fair enough. Seems like an odd thing to bring up if it didn't actually bother you.

Anyway, I still think there is more to be said in the AC franchise, though Desmond's story is starting to run a bit thin. Clearly feudal Japan isn't happening, but something in Asia would be cool. Northern Europe also; France in the 1620s (Louis XIII, Cardinal Richelieu and all that), England during the Norman Conquest, the Dutch Republic in the 17th century, etc...

#87 Posted by Zombie_Shakespeare (132 posts) -

I'm going to second 'space', but in a less joking way.

I just...I want Prey 2. I wanted Prey 2.

Dammit. Space assassinations. Maybe 1313 will scratch my eternal itch. Anyway, I hope the series just ends after 3. It's gone on long enough. When I booted up the tower defense minigame in Revelations the first time, that was the moment I realized that "this needs to end".

#88 Posted by Shirogane (3563 posts) -

China would be cool if they expand on what they've already created with the Chinese assassins and that girl from Embers. Apparantly chinese assassins don't use hidden blades, that'd be interesting.

#89 Posted by avidwriter (667 posts) -

It's either going to be another AC :Brotherhood type game but for AC3 main character. That or Desmond finally.

#90 Posted by NTM (7235 posts) -

@Shimmy: Again, that's not what I said. Never mind though, it doesn't really matter.

They're not going to go back in history well before the Revolutionary War. I'm betting WWI or II.

#92 Posted by Dalai (6980 posts) -

I'd go with 19th to early 20th century India. Ubisoft might as well fuck with the British again.

#93 Edited by MikkaQ (10264 posts) -

How about an Assassin's Creed game set in Compton in the late 1980s?

You'd be an assassin singling out undercover Templars amongst the warring Bloods and Crips!

#94 Posted by Assassin17 (19 posts) -

@Shimmy: totally agree. it would bee kinda cool to see the series go to other places, but they did add a little of rome in brotherhood. but im oly sayin.

#95 Edited by Bourbon_Warrior (4523 posts) -

It has to be Japan right?

@Oldirtybearon: Assassins Creed is alot more than Tenchu, the amount of detail put into setting and time period is the selling point for me in those games.
