Ok so, I started this thread during the site's dead zone so it's now lost so here's a repost.
As I was watching Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons, the latest film directed by Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer), there was something eerily familiar and then it hit me:
The climactic battle between the Monkey King and Buddha is almost shot-for-shot identical to the battle between Asura and the planet-sized boss.
Here is the teaser for the film and we can see a glimpse of that scene mentioned above around 0:49 mark.
