Launched in 1977 the Atari VCS or 2600 console didn't really hit it's stride until 1979 when the arcade game Space Invaders was ported to the console. But the lasting image that the console has left us is that of the Joystick. No article about the history of home video gaming is complete without the image, it has been printed on t-shirts of ten worn by those who may never even have used the thing and for many of us more mature gamers it is the first joystick we ever used. As time moved on though the joystick came with us as it was compatible with the Vic 20, Commodore 64 and, naturally, the Atari ST.
